Moisturizing Skin Without Leaving An Interesting Scent, Charmed Life Body Lotion Underwhelms For The Price.

The Good: Not an unpleasant scent, Good moisturizing quality
The Bad: Expensive, Scent does not endure, Odd scent, Not anti-bacterial
The Basics: Bath And Body Works Charmed Life Body Lotion moisturizes well, but has an unremarkable scent that does not justify the expense.

When my wife picked up the Charmed Life Shower Gel (reviewed here!), I was surprised. The scent was not the most distinctive in the Bath & Body Works line and if she had not gotten it on clearance, it would have been a terrible waste of money. I was even more surprised when she synergized it with the Charmed Life Body Lotion. That lotion is all right, but it is way too expensive for the unremarkable aroma it emits.

Charmed Life is sold in a 8 fl. oz. container by Bath and Body Works as part of their Signature Collection line and it is a Body Lotion. Body Lotion is essentially hand cream and given that it was more than ten dollars for the 8 fl. oz. bottle (they had a 3 oz. that was $5.00!), I figured it had to be something incredible in the bottle to justify the price. It was not.

Charmed Life is an “adjective scent,” an aroma whose title tells you nothing about what to expect when you open the product. I seriously wish I could be more helpful with that. Charmed Life starts off with a vaguely citrus, lightly orange scent (think very sweet oranges, like Mandarin oranges) that turns into something slightly floral on the skin. Oddly, as I continue to smell my hands, it smells like a combination of seriously diluted rosewater and vanilla frosting. The scent may be vague, but it is a clean bouquet that is light enough to not be distracting, but also too light to be truly intriguing.

Charmed Life is an opaque, pearlescent periwinkle blue cream that is thick and very traditionally a “girly” color.

As a Body Lotion, a tiny dollop, like the size of a chocolate chip of Charmed Life can moisturize one’s hands. It took a little bit more for the Charmed Life to restore my dry skin on my knees and elbows to a soft, supple, moisturized place, but within a week of using about a dime-sized dollop on each appendage a day and my skin there was soft. No body lotion is going to make my gnarly feet soft and pleasant to the touch, but on the non-calloused parts, the Charmed Life Body Lotion actually did work.

For those who are health conscious, the Charmed Life Body Lotion is primarily comprised of water, Glycerin, and Petrolatum. As one who is more accustomed to reviewing all natural teas, I'll say I know what water is and this product is not recommended for human consumption, so don't eat it! It does soften the skin some and the scent stays on the skin for about an hour and a half even after working it into the skin.

At the regular price, Charmed Life Body Lotion should be a miracle scent that fully moisturizes skin, but it is not. The bland, vaguely medicinal afterscent make it less distinctive than most hand lotions and that makes it impossible to recommend at full price and not easy to recommend even on clearance.
