The Good: Good flavor, Good ingredients, Reasonably priced for a premium frozen dessert.
The Bad: Not a very bold or distinctive flavor.
The Basics: Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a flavorful addition to the Gelato Indulgences line, though it never quite lives up to having a bold coffee flavor.
My wife is much more into lighter flavored desserts than I am. When Breyers first released its Gelato Indulgences line, she was absolutely thrilled. I was neutral to the concept, but it seems we’ve ended up with a number of them around the house! I’ve already reviewed the Triple Chocolate Gelato Indulgences (reviewed here!), but the one I was actually excited about was the Tiramisu flavored Gelato Indulgences. I like Tiramisu, but honestly, I’ve not ever truly considered what the flavors in the dessert are until I had the Gelato Indulgences frozen dessert.
Breyers’s Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a fairly simple Gelato frozen dessert with bits of ladyfingers cake and powdered espresso sauce on top of it.
Breyers Gelato Indulgences comes in a resealable plastic container, just a little smaller than a half gallon. The Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a smooth, creamy Gelato with a very solid (albeit spongy) additive to it. At (locally) $4.99 a half container, the Breyers Gelato Indulgences is an affordable premium Gelato. This is a good frozen dairy dessert, if not a truly great one.
Ease Of Preparation
Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a very basic frozen dessert. As a frozen dessert product, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences.
The Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences smells very lightly of coffee and the scent is subtle and inviting. It gains more of an aroma the closer the gelato gets to room temperature.
On the tongue, the Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a light chocolate flavor, like so light that it tastes very much like caramel and coffee more than even a diluted milk chocolate flavor. In fact, the closest the Tiramisu Gelato comes to tasting like chocolate is that there are moments the flavor tastes like diluted chocolate milk. It is by no means unpleasant, but it is an exceptionally light flavor.
What saves the Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is that the bits of ladyfingers cookies that are in the ice cream carry a caramel and cake flavor that is full, rich and distinctive. It blends with the espresso sauce to make for a creamy, coffee flavor. This is a very light flavor, save the ladyfingers and the espresso sauce as it warms a little more. The espresso sauce becomes a bit heavier and it overpowers the lighter flavored gelato.
The Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a very light, mostly smooth, Gelato Indulgences with a light covering of espresso powder. The28.5 fl. oz. container represents seven half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 170 calories, 50 of which are from fat. The six grams of fat represent 9% of the RDA of fat, with 18% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 3.5 grams of saturated fat in this Gelato Indulgences. One serving has 15 mg of cholesterol (that’s 5% of the RDA!) and 45 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and Vitamin A and 4% of the RDA of Iron in the Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences.
Breyers has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Milk, Espresso Sauce, and cream, Tiramisu is a decent Gelato Indulgences! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.
Breyers Gelato Indulgences is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of March 2015).
The Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is half light, opaque brown and half a brown so dark it looks almost like it is black and it will stain light clothing (at least the espresso sauce will). When the Gelato Indulgences melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the Gelato Indulgences wipes off exceptionally easily.
Breyers Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences is a flavorful Gelato that is light, but surprisingly satisfying. Those who love strong coffee flavors might be underwhelmed, but those who enjoy desserts that accompany coffee are likely to find the Tiramisu Gelato Indulgences delightful.
