A Delightful And Creative Ice Cream, Breyers Blasts! Banana Split Is Worth Stocking Up On!

The Good: Delicious, Not entirely un-nutritious, Reasonably priced, Great flavor!
The Bad: None that I can find!
The Basics: Breyers Blasts’ new Banana Split Ice Cream is one well worth recommending and enjoying . . . frequently!

When it comes to ice creams – or frozen dairy desserts – I love companies that continue to expand and experiment with their product lines. However, it is hard to know what flavors will “take” with the population, so sometimes I am thrilled to be at the cutting edge to recommend (or pan) a product I’d love to see make it into the long term lineup. That is how I feel about Breyers Blasts’ Bananana Split ice cream. It is also worth noting up front that it is a rare thing for me to recommend – and rate as perfect – a product that I have been known to garnish. But . . . Breyer’s Blasts! Banana Split ice cream is both perfect on its own, but it is delightful to a surprising degree with Reese’s Peanut Butter dessert topping (reviewed here!).

The Breyers Blasts’s Banana Split Ice Cream is a simple ice cream with multiple additives: a strawberry swirl and mini chocolate chips.

Basics

Breyers Blasts ice cream comes in a typical half gallon container. The Banana Split Ice Cream is a slightly chunky ice cream: the basic banana ice cream mixed with strawberry and a fair amount of chocolate chips. While I had many bites that didn’t have any chocolate chips, fewer of the bites of the ice cream lacked strawberry.

At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Breyers Blasts! ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream.

Ease Of Preparation

The Banana Split Ice Cream is a loaded ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Banana Split Ice Cream.

Taste

The Banana Split Ice Cream smells like banana and, surprisingly strongly, of strawberries. The aroma is inviting and very fruity.

In the mouth, the banana flavor is a dull, creamy taste that washes over the tongue and coats it like a cream. The flavor is very distinct and true to actual banana flavor, which is to say it is not the most forceful or impressive taste by any means. The only real sweetness comes in the bites that have the strawberry swirl mixed in and those bites are fruity and electric in the combination of strawberry and banana. The chocolate chips do not taste either sweet or waxy; instead these chocolate chips have a flavor akin to dark chocolate and that is a very pleasant surprise for those looking for a pleasurable combination of flavors.

This frozen dairy dessert has no aftertaste.

Nutrition

The Breyers Blasts Banana Split Ice Cream is a fairly light ice cream with distinctive additives. The half gallon represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 140 calories, 35 of which are from fat. The four grams of fat represent 6% of the RDA of fat, with 15% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 3 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 5 mg of cholesterol (that’s 2% of the RDA!) and 30 mg of Sodium (1% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 4% of the RDA of Calcium and Vitamin C, as well as 6% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Banana Split Ice Cream.

Breyers Blasts Banana Split has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Milk, banana puree, and corn syrup, the Banana Split is not, technically, an ice cream, though it sure mimics one well! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Storage/Clean-Up

Breyers Blasts ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of February 13, 2014).

The Banana Split ice cream is fairly light, but the strawberry swirl is sticky and will stain. As well, when the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

The Breyers Blasts Banana Split ice cream is a perfect, flavorful blend bound to satisfy anyone who loves fruity ice creams!
