Everything It Promises: Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences Delivers!

The Good: Wonderful flavor, The chocolate is not waxy, Good ingredients!
The Bad: Expensive!
The Basics: I never expected to enjoy Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences as much as I did when I found it on clearance!

When I find ice creams in my local grocery store on clearance, it is usually because the product has been discontinued. I found the Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences in my grocery store's clearance freezer recently and picked up a container. I've been consuming it as a nightly snack for a few days now and I don't think I paid adequate attention to it until I went to review it today. There are few times that I stop and am "wowed" by a product that I am initially neutral to, but right now, I'm there with the Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences!

Breyers’s Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is a delightfully complex frozen dessert starting with a sweet, fruity base with dark chocolate truffle atop it and a thick chocolate swirl running through it.

Basics

Breyers Gelato Indulgences comes in a resealable plastic container, just a little smaller than a half gallon. The Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is a smooth, creamy Gelato with a very soft additive to it and the dark, hard chocolate truffles atop it. At (locally) $5.74 a half container, the Breyers Gelato Indulgences seems expensive, but this is definitely one of the flavors worth picking up!

Ease Of Preparation

Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is a very basic frozen dessert. As a frozen dessert product, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences.

Taste

The Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences smells strongly of strawberries. In fact, even when this gelato is perfectly frozen, the frozen dessert smells like strawberry!

In the mouth, the Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is fruity and the chocolate on top of it is dark and hard. The chocolate truffles overwhelm the light strawberry flavor, relegating the fruit flavor to an aftertaste in bites that possess even a single truffle. The opposite it true for the bites that only have the chocolate swirl in them; there, the strawberry and milky sweetness entirely mutes any hint of chocolate in the flavor palate.

The Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences has one of the most variable aftertastes of any frozen dairy desserts I have ever tried, based on the composition of what one consumes. Bites that have the truffles in them are dry and leave a slight bitter aftertaste on the tongue that lingers for a few minutes. Spoonfuls of the Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences that have only the gelato linger with a sweet, creamy flavor that dissipates very quickly.

Nutrition

The Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is a fairly light, mostly smooth, Gelato with a topping of hard chocolate truffles and a slight swirling of chocolate. The 28.5 fl. oz. container represents seven half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 160 calories, 60 of which are from fat. The six grams of fat represent 7% of the RDA of fat, with 20% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 4 grams of saturated fat in this Gelato Indulgences. One serving has 15 mg of cholesterol (that’s 5% of the RDA!) and 55 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and 6% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences.

Breyers has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Milk, Sugar, and cream, Strawberry Truffle is a well-made frozen dairy product! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Storage/Clean-Up

Breyers Gelato Indulgences is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of November 26, 2016).

The Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences is half light, opaque pink gelato and half a dark brown chocolate swirl that will certainly stain virtually all fabrics. When the Gelato Indulgences melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the Gelato Indulgences wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Breyers Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences might be being discontinued or my local store just might not be carrying it any longer; either way, it is a wonderful dessert and consumers should hunt it down now before it is gone! I was not initially blown away by it, but when I stopped to actually notice it, it was hard to deny just how good it was. Anyone who is looking for a flavorful ice cream and likes an intriguing blend of fruit and chocolate flavors will want to indulge in the Strawberry Truffle Gelato Indulgences!
