The Good: Healthy, Decent dental benefit for dogs, Good ingredients
The Bad: Comparatively expensive for a dog treat.
The Basics: Myah, having little regard for my finances, enthusiastically recommends Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights and encourages anyone who wants to spoil their big dog to pick up a box . . . or several.
My beautiful Siberian Husky Myah has pretty great taste, so it is turning out to be a pretty great idea to have her help me review various dog-related products that come across my desk. Right off the bat, it is worth noting that she was definitely a fan of the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights dog treats my wife picked up for her. If that seems to contradict my ultimate rating, it is because Myah fell in love with another flavor of Beneful dog treats other than the Hugs, so that one is – by Myah’s subjective standards – better than these! Even so, it is very easy to recommend the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights dog treats, despite the fact that they are a bit more expensive than I traditionally like to pay for dog snacks.
My wife picked up the 11 oz. box of Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights for a little over $5, which might not seem expensive, but considering how quickly our big dog went through them, this is not a terribly economical dog snack. Given that Myah will eagerly devour leftovers and a wide array of human food as well as the most basic, inexpensive dog food for big dogs, it is hard to splurge on a treat she devours with equal intensity as those other foods. It is even harder when she exhibits a clear preference for another flavor of the Beneful dog snacks. Even so, Myah sat pretty and did other basic tricks that she has resisted doing in order to get the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights dog treats, so even though she may like another flavor more, she is clearly enchanted by the Hugs!
The Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights dog treats are little brown dog snacks that house a soft beef and cheese center and one of the most telling aspects of them is that when the box is opened (both initially and after the first time!) it smells strongly of meat and cheese. There is a salty, surprisingly compelling aroma that comes out of the box of Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights, likely to make a human’s mouth water as much as your dog’s! Each snack is approximately 1 1/4" by 1 1/4" and 3/4" thick. The surface of the pillow-shaped snack has ribbing that helps brush the tongue of dog as they chew it.
The crispy exterior of the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights helps physically remove plaque and other build-up from dog’s teeth. Myah’s breath improved noticeably when we gave her the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights treats for a week. Knowing there is a clear dental benefit for these treats helped me rate them higher; these treats help minimize the need to brush your dog’s teeth and can save money at the vet’s.
The Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights dog treats are rather healthy. With at least 13% crude protein, 4% crude fat and no more than 3% crude fiber and 12% moisture, the Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights offer some decent nutrition to dogs. Made primarily of brewers rice, ground wheat and glycerin, Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights do contain a little bit of chicken by-product meal and have nothing bad in them. In fact, because of the lack of extensive preservatives, these treats only have about a year shelf life (our box would have expired in January 2013, had Myah not eaten them right up!). As with all dog treats, it is highly recommended that when you give your dog Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights, you make sure they have a decent supply of clean water available. Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights treats are not intended to replace dog food.
Ultimately, Purina Beneful Hugs Baked Delights are a pretty wonderful dog treat, even if they are a little pricier than I might like.
