NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Dog Food Is Weakly Endorsed By Myah!

The Good: Very nutritious, Myah will eat it
The Bad: Very expensive, Myah is hardly enthusiastic for it.
The Basics: Myah ate, but was not excited about, NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food, which makes it far too pricy!

To the best of my knowledge, Myah, my Siberian Husky, has no particular dietary restrictions that would require her to eat only grain free dog foods. However, when she had other bison-based dog foods, she fell in love and as such, she was eager to try NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food. The Heartland Select dog food is grain free and made with real bison. As part of my weekly experimenting with her, I picked up a five pound bag of the food to see if she reacted differently to it than she did other dog foods. Myah got a kick out of the NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food, but not as much as she has out of most other dog foods lately.

Even so, Myah did eat the NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food and it seems to be made up of quality ingredients.

Basics

A single serving of NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food is two and a half cups for a big dog like Myah and she is supposed to get one such serving per day, so a five pound bag does not last very long, especially for the $30 price. Each piece of NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food is a medium brown disc that is very hard. They are 7/16" in diameter and 3/16” thick.

Ease Of Preparation

As a dry dog food, preparation of NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food is as easy as opening a bag and measuring out the pellets inside. There is no further prep needed.

Myah’s Reaction

The NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula actually smells, unsurprisingly, like roasted meat. This is a very aromatic dog food, though the aroma is not unpleasant. Myah could easily smell this food, but that was not enough to bring her running for it. However, when she got hungry, she would eat it. This surprised me because other bison-based food she had, she came running for. This left her with a mildly meaty scent to her breath.

Nutrition

NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food is made primarily of bison, chicken and chicken meal, the ingredients are all natural, though there are added minerals for canine health. According to the guaranteed analysis, NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food has at least 25% crude protein, 15% crude fat, but no more than 7% crude fiber and 10% moisture. As a dry dog food, it is highly recommended that you have adequate water available for your dog when serving it NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food.

Overall

NutriSource Grain Free Heartland Select Formula dog food is good, but not superlative, making it impossible to recommend for the price.
