For Its Price, I’m Not Sold On Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover!

The Good: Removes stains just fine, Sufficiently removes odors
The Bad: Does not discourage dogs from returning to soil the area again, Very expensive for what it takes.
The Basics: Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover works fine when used in pretty massive quantities, which makes it too expensive to enthusiastically recommend.

Poor Myah, my Siberian Huskey. She has gotten to be somewhat OCD since we moved to Michigan. She has no problem holding her bladder for the few hours we sleep each night. She has never once had an accident in our bedroom and because of that, I know without a doubt that she has fine capacity and no difficulties in that regard; she is fully housebroken. However, lately, I have noticed that if the bathroom door is not shut tight and there is a way for her to get easily out of the bedroom, she gets agitated before her usual wake-up time. Under those circumstances, I will wake up to her having opened the bedroom door, but come back into our room; she will be in the corner, punishing herself and there will be a urination stain in the hallway. It’s always the same place, as far from our bedroom and her food as possible. If she can’t leave our room, she just comes back to her bed and continues sleeping; if she can get out, she does and she urinates.

So, I bought Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover. Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover is an enzyme-based cleaner that works. In fact, it works exceptionally well, though I do wish it had something in it to discourage Myah from resoiling the area she always does.

Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover comes in a 24 oz. bottle with a squeeze-bottle top. The flip-top lid allows easy access to the fluid within. One simply squeezes the bottle and the fluid flows out, like charcoal lighter fluid on charcoal barbecue blocks.

The actual product is a clear, liquid with a faint, vaguely lemon scent to it. The scent is inoffensive and almost unnoticeable, but it smells slightly lemony! Having had plenty of this stuff on my skin - including in an open wound on my hand - I can honestly say that it does not irritate the skin.

The directions for use recommend removing as much solid matter and liquid waste as possible before spraying the Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover onto the carpet. This cleaner requires one to saturate the carpet with the Stain + Odor Remover and that takes about half the bottle to do when one has a big dog like Myah. Once the matter is gone - and to be fair to poor Myah, she has only had urination accidents and we discover them well before it can soak into the carpet - simply shake the bottle up and spray the Simple Solution liberally on. Then wait for at least ten minutes and blot it off. This is a remarkably easy product to use.

On my long woven rug upstairs, which is a lighter rug, the stain removing property works out perfectly. The stains disappear completely with one spraying and a minimal amount of blotting/rubbing completely removes stains and odors. This is very easy to use and remarkably effective at removing the stain. The rug takes about two days to fully dry afterward.

Unfortunately, the product does nothing to truly discourage Myah from peeing in the same place later on. I have used the Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover on the rug and it has not had any effect to diminish Myah’s use of the hallway as a first choice to have an accident (I wish she would wake us when she needs to go out and the fact that it only happens when she can get out suggests it is a psychological, not biological, condition!). But, again, to the credit of Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover, it makes no claim to dissuade dogs from peeing in the same spot.

The Simple Solution Stain + Odor Remover does seem to last, even with my well-watered dog. However, at $7 per bottle, I get only two uses out of the fluid and that is drastically more expensive than other, comparable products that work at least as well. So, while this is good, for the price, I wanted great and it is, alas, not that.
