It Could Have More Peanut Butter Flavor . . . Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Is Average!

The Good: Decent flavor, Reasonably priced, Nothing bad in it
The Bad: Predictably un-nutritious, Not
The Basics: Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream is all right, but not quite enough to satisfy those who seriously love both chocolate and peanut butter flavors.

There are many flavors of ice cream that I am fond of, though most of the ones I truly love are chocolate based. Breyers has a wide selection of ice creams that I am fond of and I enjoy trying the new flavors that Breyers produces. When I came upon Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream, it was one I did not have to even think about before picking it up; I put a container right in my cart! But, after trying it and coming back to it every few days for the last few weeks, I find myself less thrilled by it than I originally anticipated. The chocolate component of the Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is good enough, but the peanut butter aspect of the ice cream is not nearly as strong as I would like.

Basics

Breyers ice cream comes in a typical half gallon container. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream is a thick ice cream: the basic ice cream has a thick swirl throughout the ice cream that represents the peanut butter component. At (locally) $4.99 a half gallon, the Breyers ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a fair value for the ice cream, but given that it is not an exceptional flavor, it seems a little more expensive than the better flavors!

Ease Of Preparation

The Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream is an ice cream with a simple peanut butter additive. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream.

Taste

The smell of Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is strongly chocolatey. The aroma is powerful and distinct and the chocolate scent overwhelms even the hint of the peanut butter in the ice cream.

On the flavor front, the Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is consistently chocolatey. The chocolate flavor is sweet and strong, exactly what one expects from a chocolate ice cream base. About every other to every third bite, the peanut butter flavor manifests in the palate. The peanut butter flavor is dry and vaguely peanut butter flavored, coming out more as an aftertaste as opposed to a strong flavor that legitimately competes with or compliments the chocolate flavor.

The Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream has a slightly dry aftertaste, which fades pretty fast after the last bite of the ice cream is consumed.

Nutrition

The Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream is a fairly dark ice cream with a surprisingly light swirl of peanut butter to it. The 1.5 quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 180 calories, 100 of which are from fat. The eleven grams of fat represent 17% of the RDA of fat, with 23% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 4.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 15 mg of cholesterol (that’s 5% of the RDA!) and 135 mg of Sodium (6% RDA). The only other real nutrients are four grams of protein and 6% of the RDA of Calcium in the Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream.

Breyers has decent ingredients. Made primarily of Milk, cream, and sugar, there is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Breyers is Kosher and gluten free.

Storage/Clean-Up

Breyers ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months; ours would have remained viable until November 13, 2017 had we not eaten it up well before then!

The Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is fairly dark frozen dairy dessert. As a result, when the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. The chocolate ice cream and Peanut Butters will melt and stain. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

The Breyers Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is good, but for those who truly love peanut butter, the chocolate peanut butter ice cream is comparatively underwhelming, even though it is not bad at all!
