Edy’s Gives Ben & Jerry’s A Run For Its Money With Its Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream!

The Good: Tastes good, Not entirely un-nutritious, Inexpensive, Tastes incredibly chocolatey!
The Bad: None, really!
The Basics: Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is one of the best inexpensive ice creams on the market!

I love ice cream. I love ice cream and it is hard for me not to geek out over premium ice creams. Even so, I think many premium ice cream fans are unnecessarily snooty. I’m a fan of Ben & Jerry’s ice creams, but they are expensive and some of the non-premium brands meet or exceed the flavors from Ben & Jerry’s. Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie is one of the ice creams that holds up exceptionally well compared to premium ice creams.

Edy’s’s Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is a heavy, delicious, very chocolatey ice cream with chewy brownie bits embedded throughout the ice cream.

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by 1/2” in diameter chocolate bits. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a standard Edy’s ice cream, available year round.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream.

The Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream smells like thick, dark chocolate. The Fudgy smell is enough to entice anyone who loves rich chocolate brownies. The smell of the Double Fudge Brownie ice cream very inviting.

The Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie ice cream is only slightly sweet; the rich chocolate flavor is thicker and darker than most chocolate ice creams. In about every three bites, there is a thick chunk of fudge brownie that lives entirely up to one’s expectations for fudge brownies. The chocolate flavoring is delicious and very real; this is a true chocolate flavor, both from the ice cream and brownie.

The Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is a very thick, heavy, ice cream with a substantial and chewy additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 160 calories, 60 of which are from fat. The seven grams of fat represent 11% of the RDA of fat, with 20% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 4 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Double Fudge Brownie Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim Milk, cream, and fudge swirl, Double Fudge Brownie is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of June 17, 2013).

The Double Fudge Brownie ice cream is very dark, opaque brown, and will certainly stain light clothing, and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Edy’s Double Fudge Brownie ice cream is one of the best, chocolate-flavored ice creams with a delicious additive on the market!
