Very Vanilla: Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream Is Pretty Boring.

The Good: Not entirely un-nutritious
The Bad: Not at all flavorful, For how bland it is, it seems overpriced.
The Basics: Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream is pretty bland, making for a mediocre ice cream that is overwhelmed by any additives one enhances it with.

Given that ice cream is something I love, it is pretty natural that I would enjoy reviewing ice cream. So far, I have only reviewed Starbucks Coffee Signature Hot Chocolate ice cream (reviewed here) and Breyers Blasts Waffle Cone with Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (reviewed here). Today, that changes with my review of Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream.

The Breyers Smooth & Dreamy’s Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream is an incredibly simple ice cream with no additives. This is an incredibly basic ice cream.

Basics

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy ice cream comes in a typical half gallon container. The Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream is a smooth, creamy ice cream: the basic ice cream unadorned or mixes with any other additives. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Breyers Smooth & Dreamy ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream, but given that I was so thoroughly underwhelmed on the taste front, it seemed a little pricy comparatively. That I found it on clearance for $2.99 made it more palatable.

Ease Of Preparation

The Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream. However, to get more out of this ice cream, one might want to add chocolate syrup or other additives to it.

Taste

The Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream does not actually smell like anything. Unlike some of the other ice creams I have tried, this one has no aroma whatsoever.

The Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla ice cream has a very generic, manufactured vanilla flavor. This is not a vanilla bean or even vanilla extract flavor; this is a very bland, but creamy, sweet and milky flavor. It does not even have the characteristic dry aftertaste that comes from vanilla; this is very sweet. There is no aftertaste.

Nutrition

The Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream is a very light, smooth, ice cream with no additives. The half gallon represents represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 120 calories, 30 of which are from fat. The three and a half grams of fat represent 5% of the RDA of fat, with 10% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 2 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 65 mg of Sodium (3% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 10% of the RDA of Calcium in the Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream.

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim Milk, sugar, and corn syrup, the Creamy Vanilla is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Storage/Clean-Up

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of July 25, 2013, which made it even more baffling why it would be clearanced now).

The Creamy Vanilla ice cream is very light, opaque white, and unlikely to stain. Still, when the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Breyers Smooth & Dreamy Creamy Vanilla ice cream is a comparatively disappointing ice cream that is not bad, but is thoroughly underwhelming.
