A Completely Accurate Flavor, Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream Is Pretty Remarkable!

The Good: Delicious!
The Bad: More expensive than other ice creams, Not at all healthy!
The Basics: Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream is delightful on the taste front, but is awfully fatty, making it a once-in-a-while treat.

It’s a good thing that I am getting a lot of exercise as a result of packing up all of my possessions to prepare for the move to Michigan! I write that because I have become more health-conscious over the last year and I now actually pay attention to things like calories and fat and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is pretty well loaded with it! While I found some nutritional benefits in the Willie Nelson’s Country Peach Cobbler ice cream (reviewed here!), my second pint of Ben & Jerry’s in as many days was loaded with fat. That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie ice cream, but it does mean it was much harder for me to enthusiastically recommend it because of all the fat and calories.

That said, Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream is delicious and has a great sense of flavor variety based on the temperature of the ice cream. This actually tastes better and richer as the temperature rises.

Basics

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream comes in a pint container. The Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream with chunks of brownies. Cheesecake Brownie is mostly smooth with chunks in every two to three bites. This ice cream is basically the two flavors, with nothing else mixed in.

At (locally) $4.19 a pint, the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is an expensive ice cream. That I found it on clearance for $2.10 was a steal and the primary reason I bought the pint of ice cream!

Ease Of Preparation

The Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream is a simple ice cream with only one additive. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream!

Taste

Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie ice cream is appropriately aromatic with a cheesecake scent. Cheese cake has a creamy, cream cheese and sugar bouquet and the Cheesecake Brownie ice cream possesses exactly that scent, like cheesecake when it is freshly made.

As far as the taste, the Cheesecake Brownie ice cream is dominated completely by the cheesecake flavor. Sweet and embodying the flavor of cream cheese, the Cheesecake Brownie ice cream is like a creamy, more liquid cheesecake. It tastes that exactly and purely like cheesecake. I love that about it!

As for the brownies, they are an interesting additive. The Cheesecake Brownie ice cream is packed with bites of brownies (about one chunk in every two to three bites!), but they are not overly flavorful. The brownie chunks certainly shake up the texture of the ice cream, but not so much the flavor. Interestingly, as the ice cream warms, the brownie chunks in Cheesecake Brownie ice cream warm up and become more chocolatey in flavor. As that happens, the flavors in the ice cream become more vivid. The cheesy good aftertaste of the cheesecake flavor to the ice cream also becomes quite a bit more impressive.

Nutrition

The Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream is a comparatively light ice cream with a chewy, obvious additive. The pint represents four half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 250 calories, 120 of which are from fat. The thirteen grams of fat represent 20% of the RDA of fat, with 35% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 7 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 65 mg of cholesterol (that’s 22% of the RDA!) and 85 mg of Sodium (4% RDA). The only other real nutrients are four grams of protein 10% of the RDA of Calcium and Vitamin A in the Cheesecake Brownie Ice Cream.

Ben & Jerry’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Cream, Skim milk, and liquid sugar, Cheesecake Brownie ice cream I have reviewed! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. The Cheesecake Brownie Ben & Jerry’s is Kosher, but not marked as gluten free. There are no allergy warnings on the package.

Storage/Clean-Up

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my pint had an expiration date of July 29, 2013, which made it even more baffling why it would be clearanced now).

The Cheesecake Brownie ice cream is fairly light, but the brownie chunks are sticky and will stain if they come closer to room temperature. As well, when the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

The Ben & Jerry’s Cheesecake Brownie ice cream might be fattier than I usually like, but it tastes so good and is worth picking up!
