Still Worthwhile, The Power Of The Force Lando Calrissian In General’s Gear Figure Holds Up For Star Wars Action Figure Fans!

The Good: Good accessory, Good balance, Generally good sculpt and coloring
The Bad: Lack of articulation, Collectible value is terrible
The Basics: The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear Power Of The Force action figure is another figure from the old line that is not disappointing, making it easy to recommend even now!

As one of the heroes of the Rebellion in the Star Wars Saga, Lando Calrissian has a following of his own. When it comes to merchandising, though, Lando is one of the less-exploited characters in the Saga. While there was a decent Power Of The Jedi Lando (reviewed here!) and an even better Original Trilogy Collection Lando Calrissian Skiff Guard figure (reviewed here!), the final Lando figure that could be marketed effectively – he only had four costumes in the two movies he was in – was the Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure.

Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear was how Lando appeared in the middle and climax of Return Of The Jedi (reviewed here!), planning and leading the attack on the second Death Star in the Millennium Falvon. Lando had to keep the Falcon intact until the shield generator went down, then he could make his assault on the massive space station itself!

The 4" Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure is a decent one that stands up well. In fact, I have been hesitant to pick up the new version of this figure (in the Vintage Collection) simply because this one is good enough!

Basics

Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is the hero of the Rebelllion as he appeared in Return Of The Jedi. This Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure is superior to the one from the 1980s and has legs a bit apart, making him look like he is ready for action. He is also a little more buff than one might recall Billy Dee Williams being in Return Of The Jedi, but he looks pretty good with the extra muscle! The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure stands 3 3/4" tall. This Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is cast wearing his gray and tan Rebel leader uniform. The figure is made entirely of hard plastic, save the long blue cape that comes down the figure’s back. The cape is made of a very soft plastic.

This toy is a decent sculpt, looking very much like Lando Calrissian. The head is identical to the one used on the Power Of The Force Skiff Guard Lando figure, but it is cast well and it is hard to complain about this particular reuse. His hair is molded to have realistic texture and he even has a molded on mustache and nostrils! The detailing on the uniform is similarly good. On his right wrist, Lando features a commlink and his pants have the racing stripes on the side molded on! Even his pistol is molded into a holster on the figure’s chest, which is a nice detail.

Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is well colored, though the figure is colored in broad strokes. As a result, the shirt is ta, the figure’s skin is brown and the boots are bright black, with no shading or subtlety. The rank insignias on Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear’s chest is a mostly solid gray blob, without much coloring definition to set the box off as rank insignias. Kenner did, however, get the racing stripes, belt buckle and even a single stripe on the wrist commlink colored properly!

Accessories

Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear, pilot of the Millennium Falcon, comes only with one accessory, his blaster pistol. The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear pistol is actually unique to this figure and fits in either of Lando’s hands. However, at 1 5/16” long, the monochromatic black gun is vastly out of proportion with the figure, especially when compared to the pistol molded onto the figure’s chest! That said, it is still a pretty cool looking fun with a double barrel or barrel with very extended laser scope!

Playability

The four inch toy line was designed for play and the Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is fair in that regard. The figure is poorly articulated, but is exceptionally well balanced. This is a figure designed to stand up and look ready for action, which he does very well. The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure has awesome balance, probably because of the wide stance and extra support that comes from his cape. Like virtually every other Star Wars figure, though, he has the standard holes in the feet that allow this figure to be posed in more outlandish poses on the playsets and toys that have the matching foot pegs!

The Power Of The Force Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is low on articulation. The figure has six points of articulation, all of which are simple swivel joints: shoulders, groin socket, neck and waist. This makes it nearly impossible to seat this Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure for anything remotely like the shots he was in in the movie.

Collectibility

The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is part of the Power Of The Force four-inch series, a series of Star Wars action figures that was incredibly common. The Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear figure appeared on at least two cards, one with the popular Freeze Frame action slide. The result is that while this is a very neat figure, it is by no means the most valuable action figure on the market.

Overview

Lando Calrissian in General’s Gear is a decent figure and given that, while the price on the Vintage Collection figure with superior articulation and accessories might be tempting, the Power Of The Force figure offers a more affordable option that does not look out of place even with today’s figures!
