A Stiff Cloak May Keep The Power Of The Force Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker Standing, But It's Still Not A Great Figure!

The Good: Good accessories, Great balance
The Bad: There exist several far better sculpts, Collectible value is terrible, Lack of articulation, Coloring, Sculpt is somewhat ridiculous.
The Basics: A disappointing Star Wars figure that was later recast far better, the Power Of The Force Luke Skywalker action figure at least manages to stand.

There are some Star Wars action figures that were actually spiced up by minimizing them. In the case of Luke Skywalker, there are so many different Luke Skywalker figures on the market that it is hard to wonder who still is looking for one. With the Power Of The Force Luke Skywalkers, Kenner got a lot wrong. Luke looked very buff, the skin tones were off and the hair made the figure look more like the Incredible Hulk than Mark Hamill. In the case of the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, the only reason anyone still cares about the Power Of The Force rendering was that it ended up on so many different cards with very minor variations.

Luke Skywalker appeared in Return Of The Jedi (click here for my review!) as a Jedi Knight all dressed in black. He entered Jabba’s Palace in a long cloak with a hood and helped to rescue his friends from Jabba The Hutt.

The 4" Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker figure is pretty bad, but it does actually stand up, which is pretty rare for many of the Kenner figures!

Basics

Luke Skywalker is a Jedi Knight who, despite having fairly spread legs and low articulation, has great center of gravity. Cast with his legs apart, but under very stiff plastic robes that are removable, Luke Skywalker has one black-gloved hand and one human hand. The figure stands 3 7/8" tall to the top of his head. Luke Skywalker is dressed in an obi and leggings and while the color of his vest occasionally varies, this is a very dark costume. The figure is made of hard plastic, including the robes.

This toy is a pretty poor sculpt, looking very little like Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. He is off in his coloring detail as well. This Luke Skywalker lacks any real shading detail, so the face is all the same peach shade. Luke Skywalker's eyes are little more than white and blue dots and his lips are entirely colorless! The costuming is not painted to illustrate any wear and lacks any finer details, though the boots are a glossy black to contrast the black pants.

Accessories

Luke Skywalker, newly minted Jedi Knight comes only with his lightsaber. The lightsaber is the distinctive green-bladed lightsaber Luke Skywalker carried in Return Of The Jedi. It is rendered for the figure as a 2 7/8" solid silver-gray and translucent green colored plastic sword. This is an unusually wide lightsaber and yet fits either of Luke’s hands.

Playability

The four inch toy line was designed for play and Luke Skywalker is fair in that regard. The figure is poorly articulated and lacks significant articulation to make it interesting with his weapon, largely because he only has straight-armed posing. Luke Skywalker has limited poseability. Fortunately, he has pretty decent balance. This figure can actually spread its legs a little and be moved out of flatfooted position and the stiff plastic robes keep him standing.

Luke Skywalker is unfortunately low on articulation. While the figure has six points of articulation, all of which are simple swivel joints: shoulders, groin socket, neck and waist.

Collectibility

Luke Skywalker is part of the Power Of The Force four-inch series, a series of Star Wars action figures that was incredibly common. Luke Skywalker was ridiculously overproduced. In addition to being recast with much better sculpts, this identical figure was on no less than four cards where all that was different was the card! The result is this is a terrible investment figure!

Overview

Luke Skywalker from the Power Of The Force collection is a huge failure from the Power Of The Force line. Outside those completists who simply must have him, the one with the hologram and the theatrical release exclusive, there is no real reason to waste your time or money on this toy!
