Outside More Flexibility, It Is Hard To Improve Upon The Power Of The Force Princess Leia Organa In Hoth Gear Figure!

The Good: Decent sculpt, Decent balance, Good coloring detail, Fair collectible value
The Bad: Limited poseability, Accessory size.
The Basics: The Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear Power of the Force Star Wars action figure has retained most of its value because it was a decent, if under-articulated, sculpt.

With winter here, I’ve been in a bit of a Hoth mood. As a result, I have finally reviewed things like the awesome AT-AT my wife got me last year (that’s here!) and the figures I am not digging out for consideration largely seem to be the ones from that frozen planet! Today’s offering is the Power Of The Force Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear Freeze Frame figure. I am actually somewhat embarrassed to admit that I am unsure if I have any of the subsequent sculpts of this figure! As it stands, this is a very cool version of the figure that is distinctly different from a similar version of Princess Leia from the Mynock Hunt 3-pack (reviewed here!). And, it is just cool enough for me to recommend even now!

For those unfamiliar with this version of Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear, she is the Rebel leader who tried to keep the Rebels safe at the outset of The Empire Strikes Back (reviewed here!). As the Imperial Forces descended upon the ice planet of Hoth, Leia fled with Han Solo through the icy corridors.

The 4" Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear figure is the Rebel princess in her padded white outfit looking anything but ready for a good run!

Basics

The Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear figure is the Rebel leader as she appears in the opening sequences of The Empire Strikes Back. The white outfit she wore was padded and warm-looking, though seasoned camping enthusiasts universally wondered why she wasn’t wearing a hat! The figure stands 3 3/4" tall to the top of her head. Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear is a human, so she is subject to critiques about her skin coloring detailing. The figure is made entirely of hard plastic, save the vest.

This toy is a decent sculpt, looking precisely like Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear looks just like the hero of the Rebellion in her textured white outfit with gray boots, hair molded back in a ring and wearing thin gloves. The boots feature molded details like the straps and the face is molded to look generally like Leia. One of the more impressive molded details is that Kenner opted not to mold the figure’s vest onto the figure. Instead, this Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear figure features a soft plastic vest over the hard body of the figure.

The vest has the molded badge or communicator seen on Leia in the movie. Outside that, the only real coloring detail comes on the face. The skin tones are a little darker than Princess Leia was (I say this is because she got something of a tan from snowglare!), but the figure features pink shading to the lips and reasonably good coloring for the eyes!

Accessories

Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear, Rebel leader that she is, comes with only one accessory. This Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear figure comes with a small blaster. Actually, her blaster looks just like Han Solo’s blaster from the first Power Of The Force line. It is a 1” long black gun that fits only in the figure’s right hand (the left is molded open, as if to slap someone) and looks disproportionately large there. It is monotonally colored and does not fit the sense of molded detail that the rest of the figure has.

As part of the Power Of The Force toy line, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear was given a Freeze Frame action slide. This is a very simple slide (like for a slide projector) which features a frame of Princess Leia on Hoth, giving the evacuation order as the Rebel command center is hit from AT-AT fire!

Playability

The four inch toy line was designed for play and Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear is good on the playability front. The figure is poorly articulated, as all of the Power Of The Force figures at the time were. Flatfooted, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear has fair balance, but manages to stay up even on surfaces that wobble. This is a very stable figure, and it has the additional benefit of holes in the soles of its feet that may be stuck in pegs on various playsets. With those, it may be posed better.

Outside that, though, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear lacks significant articulation to make her interesting. In addition to low articulation, Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear is barely poseable. The figure comes with only six points of articulation, all of which are simple swivel joints. She has joints at the groin socket, shoulders, waist and neck. The elbows do not extend, and the arms are cast slightly bent.

Collectibility

The Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear is part of the Power Of The Force four-inch series, a series of Star Wars action figures that was incredibly common. Even so, this version of Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear only appeared on a single card with the Freeze Frame action slide, making it one of the more sought after Rebel figures. While subsequent releases have made similar figures, this one remains quite popular and is one of the few Power Of The Force figures to appreciate in value.

Overview

The Princess Leia Organa in Hoth Gear figure may have subsequent sculpts that have more articulation, but the Power Of The Force figure is still worth picking up!
