Keeping Two Out Of Three Cats Entertained! The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy Works!

The Good: Comparatively inexpensive, Two of the cats use it a lot, Easy to use
The Bad: Not overly durable, One cat is (surprisingly) fairly indifferent to it
The Basics: The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy keeps Elim and Evie engaged, but not so much for Timber, which is surprising.

When it comes to cat toys, there are very few that surprise me. The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is one that did surprise me, though. My wife picked up the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy for our three cats in order to keep them engaged during the times when any one cat was not able to get either of the other two to play with them. The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is a good toy, but it lacks the durability that I would have hoped for for long-term use with cats.

The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is a toy designed to allow cats to play on their own. The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is essentially a cat toy that is designed to hang inside a doorway that encourages cats to leap and play with the hanging toy on their own. The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is a 2 3/4" long (6 1/4" long if one counts the fabric tail, stretched out), 1 1/2" wide by 1" tall fur-covered mouse that is attached to a 58" long elastic cord. The elastic cord is connected to a 6 1/2" tall by 7 1/2" wide heavy wire "claw" that allows the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy to easily attach to a door frame, provided the frame has traditional moulding and a "lip" at the top of each side for the "claw" to hook onto.

Setting up the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is very easy. Simply unwind the elastic cord and straighten it so the mouse hangs. I recommend doing this without your cats present, lest they begin playing with the toy before one has it hung! Then, carefully spread the wire "claw" so it may be clipped atop a door frame. This will allow the mouse to hang down in a doorway. The Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy should be hung in the center of a doorway, allowing a cat maximum range for cats to play with it.

Getting cats to play with the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is pretty easy. After the toy is hung in a doorway, pull the mouse downward and release; the mouse will act like a bungee jumping person, popping back up toward the ceiling. Cats who are engaged by it will leap up and try to catch the mouse. The cats who catch the mouse will hold it down, but the moment they accidentally release it, the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy pops back up and that makes the cat want to leap for it again.

I have watched Elim and Evie - our two younger cats - play with the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy for fifteen minutes straight each and they frequently come back to the toy. Evie, the ten month-old kitten, will play with the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy until she is exhausted and then watch Elim play with it! That surprised me, but the toy works to keep our cats engaged.

The only real surprise of the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy was that it did not grab Timber. Timber is a big fan of a similar toy, the Hartz Angry Birds Wand Toy (reviewed here!), but he has shown minimal interest in the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy. In fact, I only recall Timber playing with the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy once; when we first set it up. Otherwise, he seems to avoid it.

Elim and Evie have played with the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy almost daily for about two months now. They play fairly aggressively with the toy and the elastic has worn thin and snapped in two places now. This problem came up in at least one point because Elim has realized that hanging toys are attached to something and attacks the cords with vigor, much like he attacks the actual toys at the end of the line. Evie still attacks only the actual hanging toy, but she plays so vigorously that she occasionally is able to pull down the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy and has snapped the cord once.

Regardless of the durability issue, the Ethical Pets A-Door-Able Bouncing Mouse Cat Toy is a generally good way to keep cats playing on their own, which makes it worthwhile to me!
