The Good: Very nutritious, Myah will eat it, Not as expensive as many other premium dog foods
The Bad: Somewhat expensive, Myah shows no enthusiasm for it.
The Basics: Consuming it with only slightly more vigor than the Grain Free option, Myah is still largely neutral toward the NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food I.
Some time ago, I tried giving Myah the NutriSource Grain Free Lamb Meal dog food (reviewed here!). After seeing her pick around her bowl with that food, I decided to give her a taste test by mixing her diet up just a little. After a week on the Grain Free, I switched Myah, my Siberian Husky, to the NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food. I wanted to see if she reacted any differently to the NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food and I was surprised when she gravitated toward this far less aromatic (or lamb-scented) food faster, though not much faster, than the grain free alternative.
Myah ate the NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food, but she was willing to leave some in her bowl and hedge her bets on something better coming along.
Basics
A single serving of NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food is two and a half cups for a big dog like Myah and she is supposed to get one such serving per day, so a 6.6 pound bag lasts little more than a week. Given how that size bag runs over $10, that’s far too expensive for my liking. Each piece of NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food is a dark brown disc that is very mealy in its texture and they are hard. They are 5/8" in diameter and 3/16” thick.
Ease Of Preparation
As a dry dog food, preparation of NutriSource Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food is as easy as opening a bag and measuring out the pellets inside. There is no further prep needed.
Myah’s Reaction
The NutriSource Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula actually smells generically meaty and it is indistinguishable by scent (at least to a human) from any number of other dog foods on the market. Myah consistently approached her bowl and waited whenever this was served. She seemed to expect more, even after days of consuming only this. I can only imagine that she thought it was bland in some way that she want gravy or some other condiment to make it something she was more excited about eating.
That said, Myah did eat the Lamb & Rice Formula dog food and she did not seem to object to it, even if she did not warm up to it or show enthusiasm for it with any of the times it was served.
Nutrition
NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food is made primarily of Lamb meal, brown rice and white rice, the ingredients are all natural, though there are added minerals for canine health. According to the guaranteed analysis, NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food has at least 23% crude protein, 14% crude fat, but no more than 6% crude fiber and 10% moisture. As a dry dog food, it is highly recommended that you have adequate water available for your dog when serving it NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food.
Overall
NutriSource Large Breed Adult Lamb Meal & Rice Formula dog food is a fair dog food, but not one that Myah found to be superlative in any way.
