Myah Loves Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula Dog Food More Than My Wallet Does!

The Good: Very nutritious, Great ingredients, Myah genuinely enjoys it
The Bad: Comparatively expensive
The Basics: Myah enthusiastically goes for Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula adult dog food, with little regard for how expensive it is for me!

It is a rare thing for me to give a brand of dog food a second chance after Myah has not liked a food from the brand before. So, for example, when Myah showed no enthusiasm for Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb, Chicken Meal & Rabbit Formula dog food (reviewed here!), it was only because we were gifted a bag of Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice dog food that Myah got to try it again. She’s a lucky dog; she went for the Lamb & Brown Rice formula, in every size we got in. Apparently, it is the same formula whether it is the small bites, Large Breed or standard food and Myah enjoyed them all. But, I was in for a bit of a shock when it came time to buy some more!

Basics

A single serving of Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food is three to three and three-quarters cups for a big dog like Myah and she is supposed to get a single such serving each day, so a five pound bag does not last long at all. Getting less than two weeks out of the $15 bag does not work for my budget. Each piece of Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food is a light brown disc that is very mealy in its texture, though they are hard. They are approximately 3/4" in diameter and 5/16” thick. Myah often eats these several pellets at a time.

Ease Of Preparation

As a dry dog food, preparation of Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog is as easy as opening a bag and measuring out the pellets inside. There is no further prep needed.

Myah’s Reaction

Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice dog food smells meaty, but only after it has aerated for half an hour or more does it smell like actual, seasoned lamb. Myah was drawn to it after the first two times she had it by the scent, but until it became aromatic like lamb, she was more curious about it than genuinely enamored with it.

Once she started eating it, though, Myah rushed for her bowl each time she thought she was getting Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food! This is one of the dog foods that I had to get more rigid with measuring out for her as she would devour all I put in front of her, regardless of her initial hunger level!

Nutrition

Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food smells very much like lamb, which makes sense because it is made with real meat. Made primarily of Lamb Meal, Brown Rice and Ground White Rice, the ingredients are almost all natural. According to the guaranteed analysis, Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food has at least 21% crude protein, 12% crude fat, but no more than 4% crude fiber and 10% moisture. There are also some great Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids. As a dry dog food, it is highly recommended that you have adequate water available for your dog when serving it Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food.

Overall

Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Lamb & Brown Rice Formula dog food is made with great ingredients and Myah loves it, but it is pretty expensive for the results.
