We Just Can't Get Our Cats To Play With Their Food: Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats!

The Good: The cats had fun playing with them, Enticing aroma
The Bad: None of the cats were inclined to eat them, Comparatively messy clean-up
The Basics: Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp flavors treats fail to entice any of my cats into eating them . . . though they do enjoy these as a cat toy!

My title for this review is not entirely accurate. My wife and I have three cats and yesterday, I picked them up a package of Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Flavors Cat Treats. All three of our cats play with the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats and they do so with a level of eagerness that shows they do generally enjoy them. The cats play with the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Flavors Cat Treats as if they are playing with mice tails; they truly seem to enjoy that aspect of them. But we can't get even one of our cats to actually eat these cat treats. That makes the dual function of the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp treats a much, much tougher sell than they ought to be.

Basics

Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp flavor cat treats are long, stringy treats that come in a 2 oz. package. We found ours at the local discount store for $1.49 per pack and that seemed to be about a fair price for them; I would not want to pay more. The Pull 'N Play are like Twizlers for cats, long and thin and twisted like a rope. The 2 oz. pack comes with 18 strands in two intertwined "ropes." Each strand treat measures 8" in length and 3/16" in diameter. The soft, pink strands are flexible enough to be separated and maintain integrity and hard enough to be durable for at least an hour's worth of play by three cats!

Ease Of Preparation

The Friskies Pull 'N Play treats are a treat and a toy, so preparation is as easy as opening the bag, removing one of the two ropes and carefully untwisting a strand from it. After that, simply wiggle the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats around cats and they are supposed to feel the urge to hunt them.

Evie, Timber And Elim’s Reaction

Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp flavors cat treats smell incredibly good to cats. The fishy smell that comes whenever we unwrap the package to get out more brings our cats running. Evie, Timber and Elim each came running into the room when we first opened these treats and they kept coming back whenever the strands are out and being prepared for play.

All three of our cats enjoyed playing with the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Flavors Cat Treats. Evie illustrated for the first time a real hunting instinct when the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats were brought out and Elim and Timber had a lot of fun batting them around and chasing after them. Only Timber put any of the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats in his mouth. While he did not consume even a little bit of the treats, he cut apart one of the strands with his teeth (I re-assembled the ones he did this to and, alas, he did not eat any of them!). The other two cats showed no inkling to even try to consume them.

Nutrition

The package does not provide a serving recommendation, but given that none of the cats even attempt to eat the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp Cat Treats, there does not seem to be a very good serving recommendation.

If only the cats would try eating them, they would find the Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp flavor treats to be pretty healthy. With a minimum of 13.0% crude protein and 3% crude fat, but no more than 2% crude fiber and 14% moisture, these treats have some (potential) nutritional benefits for our cats. These treats are made primarily of rice, wheat gluten and glycerine. These treats have no real dental benefits to them and they are not really all-natural or anything.

The Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp that cats break up leave a bit of extra clean-up compared to other cat toys or cat treats.

Overview

The Friskies Pull 'N Play Salmon & Shrimp flavors cat treats are a decent toy, but an entirely underwhelming treat for cats.
