The Good: Great flavor, Wonderful aroma, Chocolate filling is impressively flavored
The Bad: Comparatively expensive, Marshmallow is not actually chocolate-flavored
The Basics: Peeps Triple Chocolate Filled Delights marshmallow candies are delightful and accurately chocolate-flavored, even if the marshmallow portion is not accurately flavored.
When I returned from my recent trip, my wife very happily showed off all the goodies she got for us while I was gone. Among the many treats she had gotten for us were a full selection of the new Peeps from Just Born. There were a number of new types of Peeps candies in 2017 and she has been very excited for me to try Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps. I have not, traditionally, been overly impressed by Peeps marshmallow candies (check out that review here!), but given how excited my wife was about the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps, I pushed them to the head of the queue.
And the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps were deliciously chocolatey, which was a nice change from some of the other dipped chocolate Peeps!
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are a marshmallow candy that were introduced in 2017 during the Easter Season. Thus far, they are a pack of three brown Peeps chicks with about 1/8" milk chocolate on the underside of the chick. These are not coated in chocolate all the way around (there is another product for that) and they were released by Just Born. The three pack of Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps tended to run $1.99 - $2.99, which is a bit more than the average price of a four-pack of the regular Peeps.
Each Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peep is almost two inches long by 3/4" wide by 3/4" tall and they are sugar-coated marshmallow candies with a very thin chocolate shell on the underside.
Ease Of Preparation
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are pretty simple to prepare. Simply unwrap the plastic on the plastic container and pull that out. Each of the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps is contained within its own plastic tray. Unlike the regular Peeps, the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps tend not to have their sugar fall off. As a result, they seem to be more clean and easy to eat; simply remove it from the package and eat it!
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps smell incredibly chocolatey. The aroma is strong and distinct, which is a pleasant surprise compared to some of the other "chocolate" flavors of Peeps. The Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps smell enticingly of real chocolate in their bouquet.
In the mouth, the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are a pretty delightful blend of milk chocolate and generic sugary marshmallow flavors. The sugary marshmallow portion of the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps is not actually flavored; the marshmallow Peeps taste like marshmallow Peeps, not even one of the flavored types. That said, the chocolate filling tastes deliciously dark and the bottom of the Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps features a chocolate that is strong enough overwhelm the generic sugary flavor of the marshmallow.
The Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps leave a delightfully strong chocolate aftertaste in the mouth that lasts for about a minute after the last of the Peeps is consumed.
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps make no claims to be healthy. The three Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps in a package are a single serving. A serving has 180 calories, forty of which are from fat. Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps have three grams of saturated fat, which is 14% of one's RDA of saturated fat. There is 25 mg of sodium and 1 gram of protein. There are no vitamins or other nutritional benefits to Peeps, outside 2% of one's RDA of Calcium and 4% RDA of Iron.
This is because Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are a candy. The main ingredients in Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are sugar, corn syrup and gelatin. Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are gluten free and are not Vegan compliant considering there is gelatin, milk fat and carnauba wax. There is nothing overly unfamiliar in the ingredient list, so these are not the worst candies ever.
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are easy enough to store. The Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps my wife picked up last month had an expiration date of December 2017, so keeping them at room temperature or below seems to keep them fresh for a long period of time.
Clean-up is as easy, unless the chocolate melts onto something. Because the sugar does not seem inclined to fall off, truly the melting chocolate - or the melting Peep - is the only real worry. Like the preparation, there is nothing hard about storing or cleaning up after this candy.
Triple Chocolate Filled Delights Peeps are worth the added expense given how delightful their chocolate flavor is. Sure, I might only count two chocolates (not sure where the "triple" is from), but they are sufficiently chocolate flavored to entice a chocolate-lover like me!
