The Basics: Gollum made a surprise reversal and started avoiding the Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food, despite the quality of the ingredients and an initial interest in it!
More often than not, I write my reviews of cat foods based upon Gollum’s reaction after about a week of consumption of the new dietary choice. However, I have been so overwhelmed with a backlog of reviews of dog foods Myah has tried over the last two months, that I am only now catching up on the cat foods I have to consider. That delay actually allows me to write a much more complete and well-considered review of Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken cat food.
Had I written my review right away on this food, I probably would have been far, far more liberal with its rating. However, Gollum’s reaction to this food changed over time. In fact, after a week of being interested in it, Gollum began to actively reject the Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken cat food. I discovered this when, after a week of daily measured servings of the food, he came to me and began to cry for my attention. I was baffled, because his food dish was full, he had water and he did not respond when I tried to play with him with his toys. So, when he ran to his food dish and continued to cry, I suspected that there was something amiss. Gollum cried and then went to sleep near his bowl; when he awoke, he consumed a little of it, but otherwise, he avoided it. That has been his (rather annoying) pattern ever since.

Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food is a cat food formulated for adult cats, that is marketed on the strength of being all-natural. The Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food catfood regularly comes in a three pound resealable plastic bag that we snagged on clearance for only $2.88! As a cheapskate and poor person, I was thrilled to be able to provide my cat with a fancy cat food at a severely discounted price. Given his sudden antipathy, I might make the three pound bag stretch more than two months, making it (potentially) an incredible value.
The Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food comes with fairly uniform round pieces. The brown mealy discs are approximately 3/8” in diameter and 3/16” thick.
Ease Of Preparation
Evolve Maintenance Formula With ChickenCat Food is a hard catfood that comes in a large bag, so preparation only involves opening the bag and measuring out the proper serving size for your cat, as determined by its weight. For Gollum, that means a 1/2 – 3/5 cup serving and that lasts over a month at that rate of consumption.
Gollum’s Reaction
This cat food smells very meaty, but not of a specific meat. The Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food has an aroma that initially drew Gollum to it. In fact, for the first week, he came running for this cat food. Now, however, he only consumes it when he is hungry and has no other options. He will wait until the last possible moment to eat it and he only seems to eat exactly what he needs to survive. In fact, the Maintenance Formula With Chicken cat food may well be the best solution I have found to Gollum gorging himself on cat foods he loves; because he is so generally neutral to this food, he only eats what he has to. But he does eat it . . .
Nutrition
The Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food is a rather nutritious cat food, especially in the diminished portion size at which Gollum consumes it. The guaranteed analysis of it indicates that it has a minimum of 32% crude protein and 13% crude fat. With no more than 3% crude fiber and 11% moisture, this is a food that is very balanced. Always have adequate water near your cat’s feeding area!
As well, those who are concerned about what goes into their pets will be pleased by how this is a mostly natural cat food this is, with only the bottom half of the ingredients are added vitamins and minerals. The main ingredients are chicken meal, ground brown rice and rice flour. While only the end of ingredient list is a chemistry equation I can barely read, the primary ingredients are recognizable. Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food could be a lot worse. It does is hard enough to have the basic dental benefits of physically scraping plaque and tartar off cat’s teeth. There are not, however, any urinary tract benefits built into the formula. It is, however, free of wheat, corn and soy.
Overview
Evolve Maintenance Formula With Chicken Cat Food gets decidedly mixed reviews from Gollum. Had it not been on clearance when I purchased it, I suppose I would be much more annoyed about how neutral he is toward it. However, unlike the worst cat foods Gollum has tried of late, he will eat this one, so it is not a total loss by any means.
