The Basics: The 2017 "Sweet Snowman" ornament is a perfect food style ornament from Hallmark!
For the last several years, my wife has loved food-themed, humorously named Hallmark ornaments. Unfortunately, the last two years, Hallmark seems to be making fewer of those type of ornaments. Today, however, at our local Hallmark's Open House Event, we were thrilled to find a limited edition Hallmark ornament that was a pleasant surprise in that it called back to the ornaments my wife loves. The new ornament is the 2017 Sweet Snowman and it is adorable and fun!
Basics
The Sweet Snowman ornament is a food-based ornament, made of solid plastic by Hallmark. Because the name was not a pun, I did not initially recognize just how clever it was. The 2017 Sweet Snowman ornament features a snowman made of two big marshmallows that is accented by other snacks and candies. The snowman's hat is a peppermint with a gumdrop topper, gumdrop ears, and a scarf made out of Twizzlers. The 2017 Sweet Snowman features arms made of chocolate-covered pretzel sticks!
The 2017 Sweet Snowman is 2 3/4" tall and wide and 1 1/4" deep. The colors are generally simple, but incredibly well-made. The gumdrops feature sparkles, much like sugar that one would expect on gumdrops! The lines are clean and distinct on the paint job, making this pretty incredible.
Features
As a Hallmark Keepsake ornament, "Sweet Snowman" has neither a light, nor a sound, effect. This is just the ornament on its own with no additional features.
Balance
As with all ornaments, the intent of the Hallmark Keepsake "Sweet Snowman" ornaments are to be hung on a Christmas tree. The 2017 Sweet Snowman ornament has a steel hook loop embedded into the top of the gumdrop hat. From that position, the 2017 Sweet Snowman hangs perfectly level.
Collectibility
Hallmark Keepsake began delving into the collectibles market in 1991 with Star Trek when it introduced the exceptionally limited edition original U.S.S. Enterprise ornament (reviewed here!). Within a few years, every major franchise from Star Wars to A Nightmare Before Christmas to Indiana Jones started making Hallmark ornaments. "Sweet Snowman" is a non-genre ornament. I'm unsure of what the release price is supposed to be for the 2017 Sweet Snowman ornament, but it is worth it. Given that it appears to be a giveaway to Hallmark fans at the Open House events, the value of these is likely to explode when people discover just how awesome it is!
Overview
The 2017 Sweet Snowman is fun, cute, and perfect, which is more than enough to make one want to rush out to an Open House event, spend money and get one for one's collection!
