It Could Always Use More Candy . . . Edy's Kit Kat Ice Cream!

The Good: Good chocolate flavor, Generally good ingredients, Inexpensive
The Bad: Not enough Kit Kat pieces, Nutritionally mediocre
The Basics: Edy's Kit Kat Ice Cream is all right, but it leaves the consumer wishing for more Kit Kat pieces than the ice cream possessed . . .

I have to give a lot of credit to Edy's; the ice cream maker tries a lot of cool flavors with a lot of neat additives. Edy's makes an effort to innovate in a pretty tight market. But, as much as I appreciate the effort, Edy's does not always succeed as much as one might hope. With their Kit Kat ice cream, I found myself wishing for more, despite how I bought the ice cream the moment I could find it locally! This was an ice cream with a good idea - a chocolate base with broken up chunks of Kit Kat candy bars - that just did not contain enough candy pieces to land the concept.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Kit Kat Ice Cream is a generally smooth, creamy ice cream: the basic ice cream has little bits of Kit Kat embedded throughout the ice cream. At (locally) $5.49 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Limited Edition ice cream, available from Edy’s only for an indeterminate amount of time.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Kit Kat Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Kit Kat Ice Cream.

Taste

The Kit Kat Ice Cream has a strong chocolate aroma to it. The smell of this ice cream gets, predictably, more potent as the dessert nears its melting point. This is a fairly aromatic ice cream and the scent that comes from it is very inviting to anyone who loves chocolate.

In the mouth, the Kit Kat ice cream is delightfully chocolatey. This is a darker-tasting chocolate ice cream. Instead of being generically sweet, the Kit Kat ice cream bears a more realistic chocolate flavor and, as such, it finishes a little drier than other chocolate ice creams. The Kit Kat ice cream has a sweetness to its chocolate flavor, but it is not the dominant element of the flavor palate; this is a more forceful, than smooth, chocolate flavor and as one who loves dark chocolate, I found that very inviting. Unfortunately, the Kit Kat pieces within the ice cream are few and far between and they manifest more as an occasionally crispy, more often soggy, additive that is less flavorful and more of a texture.

Edy's Kit Kat ice cream has a comparatively mild, sweeter, aftertaste to it that lasts in the mouth for a few minutes after the last of the ice cream is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Kit Kat Ice Cream is a fairly smooth ice cream with a candy additive that is harder than the ice cream and much more soggy than a traditional, dry, Kit Kat candy bar. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 140 calories, 45 of which are from fat. The five grams of fat represent 8% of the RDA of fat, with 15% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the three grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has less than 5 mg of cholesterol (that’s 2% of the RDA!) and 55 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and 2% of the RDAs of Iron and Vitamin A in the Kit Kat Ice Cream.

Edy’s Kit Kat Ice Cream has decent ingredients, despite the generally unremarkable nutritional benefits of the ice cream. Made primarily of Skim Milk, sugar and candy pieces, Kit Kat is a well-made ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. Obviously, it contains milk ingredients. The Edy's Kit Kat ice cream is also marked with allergy warnings for wheat, peanut, and soy. As a result, Kit Kat ice cream is neither Kosher nor gluten free.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months. The container I purchased weeks ago had an expiration date of August 20, 2018, so it seems to have a fairly god shelf life.

The Kit Kat ice cream is a very dark brown ice cream that will stain any light colored fabrics. The ice cream is enhanced by chocolate pieces that will continue to melt as the ice cream melts off it. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily, at least with a hot cloth.

Overall

Edy’s Kit Kat ice cream is good for those who want a rich chocolate ice cream, but not all that satisfying for embodying or including a Kit Kat candy bar flavor.

Generic Ice Cream, Wonderful Additive: Edy's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Is A Mixed Bag!

The Good: Good ingredients, Affordable, Good flavor for the peanut butter additive
The Bad: The ice cream is generically sweet and minimally flavored, Not overly nutritious
The Basics: Edy’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a nice twist to the cookie dough ice creams . . . even if the ice cream itself is not overly exceptional.

I am told, by the person I trust most in this life, that I like strong flavors much more than the average person. As such, my views on some ice creams may differ from those who enjoy more wishy-washy flavors or have mild palates. In the case of Edy's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream, I definitely fall on the front that the ice cream is far too weak to hold its own with the peanut butter additive in the dessert. Had Edy's used a peanut butter flavored ice cream instead of a sweet cream ice cream, the Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream might have been a rousing success. As it is, the ice cream is mild, the additive is not prevalent enough and the result is a more average overall ice cream than one that truly wows those who like strong flavors.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by quite a swirl of peanut butter and a few random sized Peanut Butter cookie dough pieces. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a new, limited edition of Edy’s ice cream, so it has not hit every market yet and is not necessarily going to be made a part of the regular line after its limited edition run ends.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a light ice cream with two overpowering additives. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Taste

The Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream has a strong peanut butter scent to it. The aroma to this ice cream effervesces quite a bit, even when the ice cream is completely frozen. This is not one of the ice creams that requires it to near the melting point to develop an inviting bouquet.

In the mouth, the Edy's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream is dominated by the generic sweet cream flavor. The average bite of the Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream is sweet without any real distinction. The peanut butter swirl in the sweet cream ice cream is dry and peanut butter flavor in a way that instantly overwhelms the ice cream. The chunks of actual peanut butter cookie dough are dry and grainy and distinct in their peanut butter flavor. The squishy blobs of frozen cookie dough are flavorful and they are so overpowering in the mouth that they establish the a dryness in the mouth that is very different from the flavor of the ice cream.

The Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream has a fairly strong, dry aftertaste that lingers in the mouth for about three minutes after the last of the ice cream is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a generally smooth ice cream with a substantial cookie dough additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 120 calories, 35 of which are from fat. The four grams of fat represent 6% of the RDA of fat, with 8% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 1.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 5 mg of cholesterol (that’s 2% of the RDA!) and 55 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and 2% of the RDA Vitamin A in the Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, which is nice. Made primarily of Non-Fat Milk, sugar, and corn syrup Peanut Butter Cookie Dough is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list, though the last few ingredients are more preservatives and coloring agents than anything one might find in a grocery store. There are allergy warnings for milk and peanut ingredients. It is not marked as Kosher.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months; the container we bought last week had an expiration date of January 2018.

The Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream is very light, but will certainly stain light clothing and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice cream is good, but for those who love more flavorful things, it is likely to underwhelm a little more than thrill.

A Marginally Creative Idea: Edy's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Underwhelms.

The Good: Good ingredients, Affordable, Does not taste bad
The Bad: The cinnamon ice cream is very dry and overwhelms the flavor of the cookie dough, Not overly nutritious
The Basics: Edy’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is momentarily intriguing, but is not exceptional enough to justify making it a permanent addition to the Edy's line.

As Edy's continues to expand its ice cream line, it is putting a lot of effort into reinventing its successful frozen dairy desserts. As such, rather than coming up with a lot of new and different flavors, one of their new initiatives is taking successful flavors and tweaking them slightly. So, the ever-popular Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is being switched up with alterations to the ice cream and the cookie doughs in the ice cream. One of their more radical reinventions is the Edy's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Edy's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a cinnamon ice cream base with oatmeal cookie dough pieces in it . . . and it was a mediocre execution of the ideas.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by quite a few random sized oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a new, limited edition of Edy’s ice cream, so it has not hit every market yet and is unlikely to ever be made into a part of the regular line after its limited edition run ends.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a rich ice cream with one clear additive. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Taste

The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream has a minimal scent to it. The aroma to this almost entirely absent even as the ice cream nears its melting point.

In the mouth, the Edy's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is dominated by the vanilla and, especially, cinnamon flavors. The cinnamon flavor is dry and contrasts nicely the sweetness of the vanilla flavoring in the ice cream base. The chunks of oatmeal cookie dough are appropriately flavored like oatmeal. The chocolate chips in the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough manifest far more as a hard texture than a flavor. More than any consistent oatmeal flavor, the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is dominated by a dry, cinnamon flavor.

This ice cream has a very dry aftertaste to it, but it does not endure very long after the last of it is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a generally smooth ice cream with a substantial cookie dough additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 120 calories, 30 of which are from fat. The three grams of fat represent 5% of the RDA of fat, with 10% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 2 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 10 mg of cholesterol (that’s 3% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA Vitamin A and Iron in the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, which is nice. Made primarily of Non-Fat Milk, oatmeal chocolate chip cookie dough and sugar, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list, though the last few ingredients are more preservatives and coloring agents than anything one might find in a grocery store. There are allergy warnings for milk, wheat, egg, and soy, so this is not a gluten-free food and, obviously, it is not Vegan-compliant. It is not marked as Kosher.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months; the container we bought last week had an expiration date of November 14, 2017.

The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is very light, but will certainly stain light clothing and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is all right, but far more dry than I'd like and hardly as extraordinary as one might hope.

If Only It Could Hold Its Own: Edy's Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream!

The Good: Good ingredients, Affordable, Flavorful
The Bad: Cookie dough is virtually flavorless compared to the ice cream base.
The Basics: Edy’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a great idea with a middle-of-the-road execution because the cookie dough cannot hold its own with the chocolate ice cream base.

Sometimes, the problem is not getting what we want; the more rare problem is getting what we do want. For virtually every ice cream I have ever loved that has a vanilla ice cream base, I have wished for the same with a chocolate ice cream base. So, when I saw the new limited edition Edy's Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, I rushed right out and bought it! But, after enjoying quite a bit of the Edy's Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, I recognized the folly of my wish. The chocolate ice cream base completely overwhelmed the flavor of the chocolate chocolate chip cookie dough in the ice cream. As a result, the cookie dough is virtually flavorless by comparison.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by quite a few random sized chocolate chocolate chip cookie dough pieces. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a new, limited edition of Edy’s ice cream, so it has not hit every market yet, though it is fun!

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a rich ice cream with a lot of additives. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Taste

I was shocked that the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream has almost no aroma to it. For such a robust flavored ice cream, I was surprised that it was one of the least aromatic frozen desserts that I've ever reviewed.

On the flavor front, the Edy's Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is overwhelmingly chocolate flavored. The ice cream is rich and chocolatey and the chocolate flavor is distinct and strong. In fact, the chocolate ice cream flavor is so potent that it overwhelms entirely the flavor of the cookie dough. The chocolate chocolate chip cookie dough manifests more as a texture than a flavor, the ice cream base is so strong.

This ice cream has a dry, slightly sweet aftertaste to it, but it does not endure very long after the last of it is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream is a generally smooth ice cream with a substantial cookie dough additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 130 calories, 30 of which are from fat. The three and a half grams of fat represent 5% of the RDA of fat, with 13% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 2.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 10 mg of cholesterol (that’s 3% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA Vitamin A and Iron in the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, which is nice. Made primarily of Non-Fat Milk, sugar, and chocolate chip cookie dough, Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is a decent ice cream! The Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is very dark brown and will certainly stain light clothing and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream is a good idea, though it is an execution that is less incredible than it sounded.

There's Cake In My Ice Cream! Edy's Twinkies Ice Cream Is Unfortunately Average.

The Good: Flavor is not bad, Generally good ingredients, Inexpensive
The Bad: Limited time nature, Not very sweet, Nutritionally poor
The Basics: Edy's Twinkies Ice Cream is not the most flavorful ice cream, tasting just like the outside of a Twinkie without any real flavor analogous to the sugary center of the Hostess pastry!

As a child, I did not get a lot of sugary snacks in my lunch. My father was into not wasting money on snacks and he was more into nutrition than fun foods. So, I don't have any real connections from my childhood with Twinkies snacks. As a result, I have no real reason for getting irrationally excited when I saw Edy's Twinkies ice cream at my local grocery store. The new, limited edition, flavor has just arrived in my little town and when I saw it, I actually felt a pull to pick it up.

Edy’s Twinkies Ice Cream is pretty much a basic yellow cake flavored ice cream and the truth is, I've had better renditions of cake flavored ice creams because those tend to include frosting in their flavoring. The Twinkie's Ice Cream does not. This is an ice cream that tastes entirely like the outside of a Twinkie.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Twinkies Ice Cream is a generally smooth, creamy ice cream: the basic ice cream has tiny bits of Twinkies embedded throughout the ice cream. The Edy's Twinkies ice cream appears to have tiny pockets of Twinkies filling in the ice cream as well, but I could not find any difference in flavor from those different colored bits. At (locally) $5.49 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Limited Edition ice cream, available from Edy’s only for the past few weeks and for an indeterminate amount of time.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Twinkies Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Twinkies Ice Cream.

Taste

The Twinkies Ice Cream smells like yellow cake, exactly what one might expect out of a Twinkies flavored ice cream. The aroma is subtle, but recognizable. The scent is inviting enough to attract those who love Twinkies.

On the flavor front, tastes like yellow cake in ice cream form. This is a fairly dry ice cream, with a muted cake flavor. Indeed, the cake flavor is so true and accurate that the added pieces of Twinkies in the ice cream manifest more as a texture than an actual flavor. Looking at the ice cream, there were tiny packets of white in the ice cream, but they were no sweeter than the dry cake additives or the rest of the ice cream.

Edy's Twinkies ice cream has a very subtle, dry cake flavored aftertaste that lasts for about five minutes after the last of the ice cream is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Twinkies Ice Cream is a fairly smooth ice cream with tiny cake chunk (Twinkie) additives. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 160 calories, 70 of which are from fat. The eight grams of fat represent 12% of the RDA of fat, with 23% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the four and a half grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 50 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Twinkies Ice Cream.

Edy’s Twinkies Ice Cream has decent ingredients, despite the generally poor nutritional benefits of the ice cream. Made primarily of Skim Milk, cream, and sugar, Twinkies is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. Obviously, it contains milk ingredients. The Edy's Twinkies ice cream is also marked with allergy warnings for wheat, egg, and soy. As a result, Twinkies ice cream is neither Kosher nor gluten free.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months. The package I purchased today had an expiration date of December 28, 2017.

The Twinkies ice cream is a light yellow ice cream that will stain any light colored fabrics. The ice cream is not sticky and the tiny bits of white I saw (not tasted) in the ice cream did not have a noticeable difference in consistency from the rest of the ice cream. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily, at least with a hot cloth. If there are Twinkie bits in the ice cream that melts, that might require a little extra effort, but it is still a fairly easy ice cream to clean up after.

Overall

Edy’s Twinkies ice cream is good, but not exceptional and hardly evocative of Twinkies specifically. But for a decent cake-flavored ice cream without a frosting flavor to it, the Edy's Twinkies Ice Cream fits the bill nicely!

Unfortunately Available For A Limited Time, Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream Is Fun!

The Good: Good flavor, Good ingredients, Inexpensive, Not the worst ice cream on the nutrition front
The Bad: Limited time nature, Could be more syrupy for my tastes!
The Basics: Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream is good, though it is hardly the most maple of ice creams I have tried!

It is hard for me not to get excited about limited edition flavors of ice cream. I love ice cream and I adore variety to shake up my diet. When my wife told me of the existence of Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream, I began a quest almost immediately to find some! My quest was fulfilled today when the ice cream arrived in my little out of the way town. Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream was worth tracking down, but as I considered the ice cream two things occurred to me: I have had maple flavored ice creams before (and they were good) and more than anything else, Edy's is competing with simply pouring real maple syrup on vanilla ice cream with their Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream.

Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream is fair competition for ice cream with maple syrup poured over it, but those who are likely to put maple syrup over their vanilla ice cream are likely to use more syrup than Edy's does in this ice cream. As a result, the vanilla ice cream in the Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream actually competes pretty effectively with the maple syrup in the ice cream.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream is a smooth, creamy ice cream: the basic ice cream with maple syrup swirled throughout. The maple syrup in the ice cream is very effectively rationed, so while it might not be prevalent in a quantity that truly bowled me over, there was not a single bite of the Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream I've yet had that lacked some syrup in it. At (locally) $4.99 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Limited Edition ice cream, available from Edy’s only for the past few weeks and for an indeterminate amount of time.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream.

Taste

The Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream smells lightly of syrup, though the scent of the vanilla ice cream base gives it a run for its money in the aroma department. The scent of both the ice cream and syrup comes out more as the ice cream moves toward its melting point.

The Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream is perfectly blended to taste like vanilla ice cream and real maple syrup. The sweetness of the syrup is somewhat offset by the potent vanilla flavor, which manifests like a true vanilla - meaning it has a dry quality to its overall flavor palate. The syrup flavors the ice cream without ever overwhelming it, so the Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream never tastes so sweet as to be unbearable or in any way awkward.

Edy's Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream has no real aftertaste, which is somewhat surprising.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream is a very light, smooth, ice cream with no additives. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 100 calories, 15 of which are from fat. The one and a half grams of fat represent 2% of the RDA of fat, with 5% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the single gram of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Vermont Maple Syrup Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Non-Fat Milk, sugar, and corn syrup, Vermont Maple Syrup is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. Obviously, it contains milk ingredients. Some of the ingredients may be genetically engineered and the Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream is not marked as Kosher or gluten free.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of May 26, 2017).

The Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream is very light white ice cream that will stain dark colored fabrics. The syrup swirled throughout the ice cream is predictably sticky and it will stain lighter colored fabrics. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily, at least with a hot cloth.

Overall

Edy’s Vermont Maple Syrup ice cream is good, but the syrup flavor is more subtle than I would have liked. Despite that, this is an ice cream well worth tracking down and trying!

Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream Is Full Of Flavorful, Light On Fat!

The Good: Light on fat, Tastes good, Good ingredients, Inexpensive
The Bad: Could use more caramel in the swirl!
The Basics: I was surprised by how fast Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream became a mainstay around my home! But it has and it is worth it!

For the last year, my wife has been on a ketogenic diet and that means limiting her carbs. The process of adjusting to that - as far as menu planning and shopping - has been quite a transition around our home. I could never do a ketogenic diet, if for no other reason than that I love ice cream and candy far too much. My wife has made that sacrifice, though, and on the rare times she sneaks a non-keto-friendly snack, she does not over-indulge because the change in diet has made sweet foods seem overly sweet to her now. One of the few treats that meets both her dietary requirements and satisfies her tastebuds is Edy's Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream!

Edy’s’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream is a fairly light, delicious ice cream with a truly wonderful caramel swirl that is sweet and true to the promised flavor!

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by a heavy swirl of caramel syrup throughout. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a standard Edy’s ice cream, available year round.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream is a fairly basic ice cream with a malleable additive that is easy to navigate through with an ice cream scoop. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream.

The Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream has virtually no aroma to it. Outside the actual caramel swirl in the Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream, the ice cream does not smell like anything; the swirl smells like caramel, sweet and light!

In the mouth, Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream tastes strongly of caramel. The ice cream is buttery and sweet, as one might expect from caramel. The caramel swirl infuses a powerfully sweet and appropriately buttery element to the flavor palate of the Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream. This ends up as a very sweet, potent flavor of ice cream with a very true flavor.

The Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream has a minorly sweet aftertaste to it, which does not last in the mouth for more than two minutes after the last bite of it is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream is a light ice cream with half the fat of usual ice cream. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 120 calories, only 30 of which are from fat. The three and a half grams of fat represent 5% of the RDA of fat, with 10% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 2 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 15 mg of cholesterol (that’s 5% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 8% of the RDA of Calcium and 2% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Caramel Delight Slow Churned Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Non-Fat Milk, cane sugar, and cream, the Caramel Delight Slow Churned is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. This ice cream has an allergy warning for milk and is, obviously, not Vegan compliant.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of July 1, 2017).

The Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream is an off-white color and might stain light clothing and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out, consult a fabric guide for the best way to get it out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Caramel Delight Slow Churned ice cream is good and it is a flavorful option of ice cream that is enough to satisfy consumers who are looking to reduce their fat intake with something truly yummy!

As Close To Transforming Butterfinger Candy Bars To Ice Cream: Edy's Comes Through!

The Good: Tastes good, Good ingredients, Inexpensive
The Bad: Light on chocolate flavor, Vanilla ice cream is more a medium than a flavor
The Basics: Edy’s Butterfinger Ice Cream is good and flavorful, doing justice to the beloved candy.

One of my earliest food reviews was of Butterfinger candies (reviewed here!). I am a fan of Butterfinger candies and ice cream, so the Edy's Butterfinger Ice Cream was an instantly alluring flavor concept to me. And while the ice cream may be a true representation of Butterfinger candies, it accents the idea that Nestle chocolate (who manufactures the Butterfinger candy bars) is not one of the more potent chocolate flavors.

Edy’s’s Butterfinger Ice Cream is a fairly light, delicious ice cream with heavy candy piece additives.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Butterfinger Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by frequent chocolate pieces, chunks of Butterfinger candy bars and a swirl of peanut butter. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a standard Edy’s ice cream, available year round.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Butterfinger Ice Cream is a fairly basic ice cream with hard additives. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Butterfinger Ice Cream.

Taste

The Butterfinger Ice Cream smells entirely like peanut butter and caramel. The aroma is so perfectly, and predictably, like the Butterfinger candy bar like one expects.

On the flavor front, Edy’s Butterfinger ice cream is a vaguely vanilla ice cream entirely overwhelmed by the chocolate and peanut butter Butterfinger additives. The smooth ice cream is broken up in every bite by peanut butter swirl, little waxy chocolate flakes, and the chunks of crispy Butterfinger candy pieces.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Butterfinger Ice Cream is a heavy ice cream with a substantial and hard additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 170 calories, 80 of which are from fat. The nine grams of fat represent 14% of the RDA of fat, with 23% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 4.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 55 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Butterfinger Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim Milk, cream, and sugar, Butterfinger is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. This ice cream has an allergy warning for milk, peanut, and soy ingredients.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of March 27, 2016).

The Butterfinger ice cream is a light orange color and will certainly stain light clothing and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out, consult a fabric guide for the best way to get it out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Butterfinger ice cream is a good flavor of ice cream that might have been better with a chocolate ice cream base, but uses the vanilla ice cream to completely carry the Butterfinger flavor throughout it.

Not Chocolate Enough, Edy’s Mint Brownie Ice Cream Is More Average Than Extraordinary!

The Good: Not entirely un-nutritious, Inexpensive, Tastes fairly minty
The Bad: Brownie element does not add much flavor
The Basics: Edy’s Mint Brownie Ice Cream is average because the mint is accurate and yummy, but the brownie flavor is more a texture than a flavor.

As a fan of all sorts of ice cream, especially chocolate mint ice creams, I was pretty excited to see that Edy’s had a (relatively new) Toll House Mint Brownie flavored ice cream. Edy’s has good fundamentals and the Mint Brownie ice cream is well-flavored and hits the mark. Unfortunately for those of us who love mint ice creams, it does not do much more than that. The Brownie aspect of the Mint Brownie ice cream is too understated to use it as a key selling point.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Mint Brownie Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by random sized chocolate Brownie bits. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a regular assortment of Edy’s ice cream, so it has been pretty regularly stocked since it was introduced to the market a few months ago.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Mint Brownie Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Mint Brownie Ice Cream.

Taste

The Mint Brownie Ice Cream has almost no aroma to it. I was very surprised because the scent of mint is usually strong and helps to prepare the consumer for the flavor of the ice cream, but in the case of the Mint Brownie, it is such a mild scent, even as the ice cream moves toward room temperature, that it foreshadows a very weakly-flavored ice cream.

Fortunately, the (lack of) scent is deceptive. The Edy’s Mint Brownie ice cream is dominated on the flavor front by the peppermint flavor of the ice cream. The cold mint flavor is strong and distinct. The flavor is a beautiful mix of mint and cream that perfectly embodies the promised mint flavor. The brownie in the Mint Brownie ice cream is a bit more subtle. The brownie is initially more of a texture than a flavor in the Mint Brownie ice cream. It is only as the ice cream nears its melting point that the brownie becomes something that tastes chocolately instead of chewy. The lack of a distinct chocolate flavor makes the Mint Brownie flavor a bit more of a wash than it should have been.

This ice cream has a slightly dry, cool (vaguely minty) aftertaste that remains in the mouth for several minutes after it is consumed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Mint Brownie Ice Cream is a generally smooth ice cream with a substantial Brownie additive. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 160 calories, 70 of which are from fat. The eight grams of fat represent 12% of the RDA of fat, with 20% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 4 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 25 mg of cholesterol (that’s 8% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA Vitamin A in the Mint Brownie Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim Milk, cream, and sugar, Mint Brownie is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list, though the last few ingredients are more preservatives and coloring agents than anything one might find in a grocery store.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months.

The Mint Brownie ice cream is very light opaque green, and will certainly stain light clothing, and some darker clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Mint Brownie ice cream is good for the mint component, but does not live up on the promise of having substantive brownie bits in the ice cream. That makes it more of an average ice cream experience than one worth hunting down.

Delightful And Light, Edy's Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Bars Are Worth Finding (Even Now!)

The Good: Tastes good, Uses real fruit juice
The Bad: Somewhat expensive (compared to many ice creams or sorbets), Not as nutritious as the bars that have actual fruit in them.
The Basics: Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are incredible for anyone who wants their grapefruit juice delivered in a frozen form!

For all my love of my local grocery store’s clearance section, there are very few times I can actually find rhyme or reason there. However, every now and then I come upon a treasure in my local grocery store’s clearance that is deeply discounted because it is expiring or expired. While the store is excellent at getting rid of produce and meats that are near their expiration date in a timely fashion, sometimes their frozen food section has some expired products that linger. Because locally there are few people as health conscious as my wife, we managed to get the store’s entire stock of clearance Edy’s Grapefruit Outshine fruit ice bars. And buying up the whole lot was well worth it because at regular price, we might have felt cheated by the lack of significant nutritional benefits. That said, I’m delighted to say that (predictably) Edy’s Outshine bars remain delightful even after their expiration date, so if one can find the Seasonal Picks Grapefruit bars, I would recommend them fairly enthusiastically.

Basics

Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars come in a package of six Fruit Ice Bars that total 16.1 fl. oz. Each is individually wrapped and come with the yellow fruit ice bars on a stick. These are a frozen treat with each clear plastic-wrapped Fruit Ice Bar in a light green box. These are exceptionally easy to enjoy, but they have to be kept completely frozen or else they melt in an unpleasant and ultimately inedible way.

Each Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Ice Cream Bar is 6“ long (with the stick)/4” long for the treat itself, 2“ wide and 7/8“ thick.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are a gourmet frozen dessert. They come frozen and must be kept that way. The only way these lasted for us was using our deep freeze freezer (reviewed here!) to keep the Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars entirely solid!

Because they come in the individual wrappers, one must simply unwrap each Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars and then eat them. That is it.

Taste

The Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars have almost mo aroma to them, until they begin to warm up toward freezing. As they near their melting point, they begin to effervesce with a strong citrus scent.

On the tongue and in the mouth, Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars overwhelm the palate with a predictably strong, sour grapefruit flavor. The potent grapefruit taste is not at all unpleasant and just as the sourness from the frozen treat reaches its peak, the desserts sweetness kicks in. It finishes with a purely fruity flavor that is exactly what one would expect from a grapefruit juice-based product.

These have no aftertaste as their sourness dissipates almost as soon as the last bite is swallowed.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are an enjoyable delightful frozen dessert, though they are not as healthy as the Outshine bars that have real fruit embedded in them. Each 85 gram bar is a single serving. In the 1 bar serving, there are 80 calories, and they have no fat. As well, one serving also has only 19 grams of carbohydrates (that’s 6% of the RDA!). They do not have any Sodium, cholesterol, or protein. The Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars do have 25% of the RDA of Vitamin C.

Edy’s Outshine bars have quality ingredients, which is probably why they are so comparatively expensive (compared to ice cream, sorbets and popsicles). Made primarily of water, grapefruit juice from and sugar, Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are a surprisingly good frozen dessert! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list and there are no allergy notes on the box.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s Outshine is juice-based, so when it is not frozen, it melts and has the potential to spoil. The Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars we found two months ago had an April 27, 2014 expiration date on the box, but because they remain good after their expiration date, they are worth buying now (if one can find them!) and stocking up on them for the summer.

The Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are yellow and get sticky when they melt. When the frozen dessert melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the fluid wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Outshine Grapefruit Fruit Ice Bars are an energizing fruit flavored treat that is enough to thrill anyone who loves the citrus joy that is grapefruit!

Fun And Flavorful, Edy's Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream Is Worth Trying!

The Good: Not entirely un-nutritious, Inexpensive, Tastes good and like what it is supposed to!
The Bad: Flavor varies quite a bit based on whether or not one has the cinnamon swirl in the bite.
The Basics: Edy’s Slow Churned Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is flavorful, though somewhat inconsistent in its flavoring.

Despite it being winter, I am once more eagerly enjoying and reviewing ice cream. Today, my treat is Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream and it is a treat. Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is an ice cream that is true to flavor for the bites that contain cinnamon, as opposed to the bites that are just vanilla ice cream. As part of the Slow Churned line, it has ½ the fat and 1/3 the calories of most Edy’s ice creams and as a lover of baked goods like cinnamon buns (but as one whose metabolism is changing such that I can no longer gorge on such treats), the Cinnamon Bun Fun ice cream is a true treat.

Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is a delightful, true-to-flavor ice cream that is worth trying; given that it is a limited edition flavor, the time one has to try it

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by a red/brown swirl of cinnamon sugar. At (locally) $4.99 a 1.5 quart tub, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Slow Churned Edy’s ice cream, which has been an expanding line from Edy’s the last few years.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream.

Taste

The Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream smells delightfully of cinnamon and sugar. The aroma is distinctive to anyone who loves cinnamon buns. The aroma is sweet and dry and instantly recognizable. This is an ice cream that becomes more aromatic as the ice cream nears room temperature!

In the mouth, the Cinnamon Bun Fun ice cream is sweet and creamy, with a distinctly spicy flavor to the brown swirls in the ice cream. The swirls carry all of the cinnamon flavor and the combination is like having a bun with tons of cold icing with bursts of cinnamon. The ice cream is not quite as sweet as icing, but the combination of ice cream and cinnamon has a net flavor that is similar to a true cinnamon bun!

The Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream has a very dry aftertaste, at least when one’s last bite comes from the cinnamon swirl. Finishing with the ice cream leaves one’s mouth filled with a sweet, creamy flavor that does not last on the tongue very long at all.

Nutrition

The Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream is a fairly light ice cream with a broken up by grainy cinnamon sugar swirled through the center of the ice cream. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 110 calories, only 30 of which are from fat. The 3.5 grams of fat represent 5% of the RDA of fat, with 8% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 1.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 5 mg of cholesterol (that’s 2% of the RDA!) and 50 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA Vitamin A in the Cinnamon Bun Fun Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Non-fat Milk, sugar and corn syrup, Cinnamon Bun Fun is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of September 13, 2014).

The Cinnamon Bun Fun ice cream is very light and the opaque white color is unlikely to stain clothing. The cinnamon swirl will likely stain light fabrics. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Cinnamon Bun Fun ice cream is flavorful and worth hunting down . . . while it is still available!

Delightful, But Not Chocolate Enough (To Balance The Mint): Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream!

The Good: Not entirely un-nutritious, Inexpensive, Tastes delightfully minty!
The Bad: The chocolate cookie in the ice cream is not chocolatey enough to truly sell one who loves chocolate mint.
The Basics: Edy’s Slow Churned Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is minty and wonderful, but not a truly well-balanced flavor for those looking for all the promised elements.

When it comes to ice creams, the ends of summer and autumn are not reasons enough (to me) to stop enjoying and reviewing ice cream! It might be getting cold outside, but when the house is warm and I have a good book in front of me – or television I love – it’s still ice cream time. The latest one I have picked up is Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream. Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is an ice cream that is more enjoyable on a visceral, emotional, level than on an objective one based on what the flavor is promised to be. As part of the Slow Churned line, it has ½ the fat and 1/3 the calories of most Edy’s ice creams and as a lover of mint, I enjoyed the Mint Cookie Crunch ice cream. But the chocolate cookie bits broken up in the ice cream are neither chocolatey, nor crunchy, enough to truly be sold on the flavor in objective terms.

As one who loves mint, Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is a very minty, but unimpressively chocolatey ice cream.

Basics

Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is a smooth ice cream broken up by random sized chocolate cookie bits. At (locally) $3.99 a 1.5 quart tub, this Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Slow Churned Edy’s ice cream, which has been an expanding line from Edy’s the last few years.

Ease Of Preparation

Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream.

Taste

The Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream smells perfectly minty. The scent is a generic peppermint/spearmint aroma that is very aromatic, especially as the ice cream warms up. The scent is inviting and distinctive.

On the tongue, the Mint Cookie Crunch is minty and creamy; the cookie additive gets softer in the ice cream, so it ends up more like a brownie than a cookie. The chocolate cookie and the mint blend incredibly well so the flavor is very much like one would think of a mint cookies and cream. The cookie pieces in the Mint Cookie Crunch are not actually crunchy and the chocolate is not nearly as strong as a chocolate lover might want. Instead, this is a mint ice cream dominated by the flavor of mint, not the chocolate cookie.

The cool, refreshing flavor of the mint ice cream compliments the chocolate cookie broken up into the ice cream nicely. The Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream does not have a dry aftertaste, which is a rarity for an ice cream with cookie pieces in it!

Nutrition

The Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream is a fairly light ice cream with a broken up cookie pieces swirled almost entirely uniformly through the ice cream. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 120 calories, only 25 of which are from fat. The 2.5 grams of fat represent 4% of the RDA of fat, with 8% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 1.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 5 mg of cholesterol (that’s 2% of the RDA!) and 60 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is three grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA Vitamin A in the Mint Cookie Crunch Ice Cream.

Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Non-fat Milk, sugar and corn syrup, Mint Cookie Crunch is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.

Storage/Clean-Up

Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of June 23, 2014).

The Mint Cookie Crunch ice cream is very light, opaque green color, and will certainly stain light clothing. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

Edy’s Mint Cookie Crunch ice cream is good for the mint base ice cream, but it does not deliver as much flavor with the cookie pieces as one might hope. That makes it just a little less than it could be, despite being so healthy.
