Post-Birthday Review #3: The Norpro 3660 Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms!

The Good: Durable, Easy to use, Easy to clean
The Bad: One specific use without much else that can be done with them.
The Basics: Norpro Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms can be used for making cannoli, but little else, making them tough to both to invest in.

As part of my wife’s 25th birthday, I picked her up many, many gifts, which made me feel like a pretty awesome husband. But more than just showering her with baubles, I wanted to give her the gift of time together doing something special that we had never done. So, one of the gifts was ingredients for a low-calorie/low-carb cannoli recipie I found online, another gift was the time spent together making the cannoli, and the third gift in that group of gifts was a set of four Norpro Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms.

The Norpro 3660 Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms are shiny steel tubes. Each one is 5 1/2” long, 7/8” in diameter and has a very specific use. While the Norpro Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms are able to be used as a baking tool for putting cannoli dough around, but they may also be used when one is frying the cannoli shells.

The purpose of a cannoli form is to hold the shape of a tube so the cannoli dough might cook solid into a cannoli shell. To their credit, Norpro Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms do exactly what they are supposed to. These seamless, smooth metal forms should be greased or oiled before the dough is rolled around the form and once the baking or frying of the dough is complete, the cannoli shells slide off them effortlessly. These do exactly what they promise.

Unfortunately, this is not a kitchen gadget that can be multitasked. These stainless steel tubes do one thing and one thing only. While it was fun to make the cannoli once, I doubt my wife and I will be rushing to make them again right away. Using them more frequently might season them so not as much oil is required, but otherwise, these can be cleaned exceptionally easily. They wash clean with just hot water and a non-abrasive soap. Never eager to risk such things getting scratched in the dishwasher, I avoid putting them in the dishwasher. Washing them by hand only takes a moment and because they are stainless steel, they are simple to clean.

The Norpro Stainless Steel Cannoli Forms might be ideal for a professional setting, but even though they are exceptionally inexpensive, it is tough to believe most consumers will actually get a lot of value out buying them for home use.
