Better With Milk, Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla Cereal Delights!

The Good: Great ingredients, Good flavor with milk
The Bad: Expensive, Not overly flavorful on its own, Not really loaded with nutrition
The Basics: Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla is flavorful with milk, but is not loaded with nutrients for its price.

My wife and I are working on improving our heart health. To that end, we both have been trying to eat better and cereals can be a good way to do that. My wife picked me up a box of Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal. Before today, the only Nature's Path Organic cereal I had tried was the Pumpkin Flax Granola (reviewed here!) and the Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla was better than that!

At more than $6 a box (locally), Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla is very expensively priced, though it is pretty much on par for a premium organic cereal. The Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is all natural and will meet the needs of those who pay more for their ethics when it comes to food, but for those who like flavor it truly requires milk to get the most out of it.

Basics

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is a blend of flakes, corn puffs and granola cereal. The cereal comes in an 10.6 oz. box and that’s a fairly standard size for premium and organic cereals. The cereal is comprised of a variety of grainy bits and they are pretty crispy and delightful.

Ease Of Preparation

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is a breakfast cereal, so this is one of the low-impact breakfast options as far as preparation goes! Simply open the box of Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal, pour out a two-thirds cup serving (I recommend actually using a measuring cup, especially if you are monitoring your intake) and add 1/2 cup of milk to it. I have discovered, as part of getting healthy, that one of the biggest challenges one might have with breakfast cereal is actually eating the serving size recommended by the manufacturer.

For the purposes of my reviews, and my regular consumption, I only use skim milk (fat free) milk with cereal. When milk is added to Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal, surprisingly little of it gets absorbed into the cereal.

Taste

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla smells strongly of vanilla. The vanilla aroma is initially powerful, but dissipates within a few minutes of the bag being opened.

Without milk, the Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla is sweet, dry and grainy. The flavor of vanilla is not overly powerful; it is a more generic sweetness that hit the tongue than a specific and complicated flavor. The Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla does not taste bad, but it is not truly distinct in its flavoring.

With milk, Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal, the sweetness becomes a lot less generic. In fact, it is only with the addition of milk that this cereal pops with an actual vanilla flavor! The flavor of vanilla is the perfect embodiment of sweetness and vanilla dryness. This cereal nails the flavor of vanilla when it has milk in it.

The Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla leaves no distinct aftertaste in one's mouth after it is consumed.

Nutrition

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is fairly nutritious on its own and with skim milk! Made primarily of whole grain corn meal, cane sugar, and brown rice flour the Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla ingredient list is entirely natural and familiar, save the added Vitamin E in the form of Tocopherols.

A single serving of Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is 30 grams or 2/3 cup. In that serving, there are 110 calories, with 10 calories coming from fat. There is no saturated fat, no trans fats, nor any cholesterol in this cereal. With 135 mg of sodium and 3 grams of dietary fiber, this is a great dietary choice for those striving to improve heart health. With two grams of protein and 4% of the RDA of Iron, Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla is not bad, but it is not one of the more nutrient-loaded breakfast cereals on the market.

Nature's Path Organic includes an allergy warning for soy, peanuts and tree nuts and it is vegan compliant. It is not marked as Kosher.

Storage/Cleanup

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla is a cereal, so as long as it is kept sealed in its box, it ought to remain fresh for quite some time. Obviously, when you are done pouring the cereal from the box, fold down the plastic inner wrap to help maintain the cereal’s freshness. Storing the Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla in an airtight container is likely to keep it protected for about a year. The box we picked up last month had an expiration date of January 9, 2018.

Cleaning up after Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is very easy. Simply brush away crumbs left by it and you are done! It is that easy! This is a cereal that barely discolors the milk added to it, so it should not stain fabrics.

Overall

Nature's Path Organic Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is flavorful and delicious with milk, but it is not a knock-out for the price on the nutrition or flavor front.
