A Wonderful Seasonally-Available Candy, The Halloween M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn Candies Satisfy!

The Good: Taste good, Tastes like white chocolate, Inexpensive, Decent bulk package
The Bad: Doesn't really taste like candy corns.
The Basics: White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's are a surprisingly good seasonally-available M&M's!

With Halloween behind us, one of my favorite seasons is here: Discount Candy Season! I love getting chocolate discounted after the prime season. One of the things I enjoy most about that is stocking up on Halloween candy after the fact is that I can get candy that is only available during the Halloween season and have it for a full year. I like getting seasonal candy and stocking up on it, like Cadbury Eggs (reviewed here!) after Easter. This year, I've been lucking out with seasonal Halloween candy. In addition to the Candy Corn Jelly Belly jelly beans (reviewed here!) that company sent me to review, my wife picked up a bag of White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's in her excitement after Halloween. The bag was a steal at ninety-nine cents discounted and it was worth it.

I was actually surprised by how good the White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's are. They might not taste quite like candy corn, but the flavor could easily be a full-time flavor as "white chocolate." And if it is only seasonally available, as they are now, buy them up while you can!

Basics

M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn are a seasonally-available bagged M&M's product, designed to appeal to all consumers. The 9.9 ounce bag is orange with a picture of an M&M character (Red) dressed as a candy corn. Inside, the round chocolates are white, yellow and orange. The White Chocolate Candy Corn flavored M&Ms follow essentially the same formula as regular M&M's in that each candy is about 1/2" in diameter, making them more or less bite sized. These differ from the standard M&M's in that they are a bit thicker, about 3/8" as opposed to the standard 1/4" candies.

The White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's come in the three colors and have the standard M&M's "M" printed on them.

Ease Of Preparation

These are candies that have been made by the fine folks at M&M's/Mars and as a result, preparing them is as easy as opening the bag and removing the chocolates and putting them in your mouth. It does not need to be any more complicated than that! M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn come ready-to-eat and require no preparation save removal from the bag.

Taste

The Candy Corn M&M's smell strongly like white chocolate, with a hint of the sweet, sugary properties that define candy corns. The white chocolate scent is dominant and potent, preparing the consumer for a strong flavor experience.

And that is what the Candy Corn M&M's actually deliver. The flavor is not that of candy corns, though. The dry-sweet shell of the M&M melts away to deliver a strong, sweet white chocolate flavor. These M&M's taste like quality white chocolate. They do not taste like a simplified, mass-produced chocolate like regular M&M's. These actually taste like a fairly high quality, flavorful white chocolate.

The aftertaste, however, is just like how one's mouth tastes after eating many candy corns. These M&M's leave one's mouth dry and sugary tasting. That flavor is very true to the intent of candy corn, delivering something very satisfying.

Nutrition

Obviously, these are candies and the folks at M&M's/MARS do not intend for consumers to live on them. They are a snack and not an overly nutritious one at that. A serving is considered 1.5 oz. and the bag has about seven servings in it. With the standard recommended serving size, the candy has 11 grams of fat! That's 17% of the RDA of fat, with 35% of the RDA coming from the seven grams of saturated fat! While there is 4% of the RDA of calcium and two grams of protein, there is no denying that this candy is not good for you and one ought to use it as a dessert occasionally, not a meal ever.

The lack of health benefits ought to be obvious from the ingredients list, which includes a bunch of artificial colors and dyes. Even so, the main ingreditents are white chocolate, sugar and cocoa butter. These are made on machines which may also work on peanuts and almonds, so those with allergies are duly warned.

Storage/Clean-up

Just as with the preparation, M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn candies are low stress when it comes to storage and cleanup. Storage is simple when the candies are kept in their bag at room temperature or cooler. Kept cool and out of direct sunlight, these confections have an indefinite shelf life (there is a production code, but no expiration date on my package). Resealed properly and kept cool, they ought to remain good.

M&M's were made famous by the catchphrase "melts in your mouth, not in your hands" and the M&M's White Chocolate Candy Corn seem to live up to that. As a result, they should not require any cleanup as they are very clean to eat. However, should one melt clothing one is wearing, consult a fabric guide for what removes chocolate from that type of garment. Otherwise, melted White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's should wipe right off non-porous surfaces with a warm, wet cloth.

Overall

White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's are a surprisingly good seasonal candy. They might not taste overly like candy corn, but they are richly flavored like white chocolate. The fact that they do not taste like a cheap form of white chocolate, sets them apart from many seasonally-available candies and M&M's has a lot going for them with this one!
