Expensive, But A Realistic Flavor, BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars Are Good!

The Good: Healthy, Peanut butter flavor is good and true
The Bad: Dominated by a dry, grainy flavor, Expensive
The Basics: The BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars are the right flavor, but a bit expensive for the size and nutritional benefits.

Every now and then, I try a product that I have initially low expectations for that actually surprises me. When it comes to meal bars of any type, I have had so many generally underwhelming experiences that when my wife picked us up the BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars, I had very low expectations. Upon trying the peanut butter coated bars, I was pleasantly surprised to discover they actually tasted like peanut butter! As strange as it may be to write that, there are so few meal bars that actually taste like what they promise that when I experienced the BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars and they generally tasted right, I was fairly impressed.

BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars are expensive, though. When I looked into the bars outside our local discount store, I discovered they were prohibitively expensive, especially for something that was so dry and grainy outside the bottom of each bar.

Basics

BSN is a company that is geared toward creating fully nutritious bars that help supplement the usual diet one has. BSN is Bio-Engineered Supplements & Nutrition, Inc, which did not give me high hopes that the Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars would actually taste good . . . or like food.

The Peanut Butter Crunch Bars come in a 1 oz. crispy bar that is foil-wrapped. Each bar represents a single serving and BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch bars are a bar that resembles a rice crispy treat with a peanut butter coating on the bottom and a drizzle of the coating on its top. Each bar is 2 3/8” long by 1 1/4” wide by 1” thick. The heavily textured, exposed, top of the bar contrasts the smooth bottom of the bar. One bar is one portion, so this is very easy to get into on the portion front! These snack bars come sold as single bars or in boxes of 12.

Ease Of Preparation

Eating BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars is not a real challenge. After removing the wrapper, simply pull out the bar and take a bite off it. There is no particularly complicated equation to eating this crispy grain bar. This is an entirely ready-to-eat food!

Taste

The Peanut Butter Crunch BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp smells very nutty. Each bar, when opened, smells distinctly of peanuts, though there is something slightly acrid - chemical - to the aroma of the bar.

On the flavor front, the BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars taste like rice crispy treats coated in a light peanut butter. The BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars are predominantly dry and nutty in their flavor, but every moment some of the peanut butter coating on the bottom touches the tongue, the consumer is rewarded with a true, realistic peanut butter flavor. Unfortunately, the bar is dominated by the dry, grainy flavor more than the peanut butter coating.

The BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars leave an exceptionally dry aftertaste in the mouth. That dry aftertaste is not unpleasant, but it is noticeable and it endures for about ten minutes after the last of the bar is eaten!

Nutrition

BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Protein Bars are intended as a supplemental food or to replace a full meal when one is on the go. Each 1 oz. bar represent a single serving and they have a fair amounts of nutrients in them. Made primarily of protein blend (mostly whey protein), Isomalto-oligosaccharides, and soy protein isolate, the ingredient list is half synthesized ingredients, half recognizable food (like peanuts). This is not an all-natural food product by any stretch of the imagination. The BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars were produced on equipment that forces them to add a disclaimer about peanuts, milk, soy, and eggs.

BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars have a noticeable 120 calories (which is a lot in comparison to its physical size), only 30 of which are from fat. A bar represents 10% of one's RDA of saturated fat, though they are low in cholesterol (with only 10 mg). As well, they are surprisingly low in sodium, having only 115 mg (that's 5% of the RDA) per serving. They have ten grams of protein and noticeable amounts of Potassium, Calcium and Iron! These are not vegan compliant and it is unclear why the package notes that the ingredients are domestic and imported in Canada.

Storage/Cleanup

BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Flavor Bars have a fairly decent shelf life around eight months. Ours came just a week and a half ago and had an expiration date of November 28, 2017. If the peanut butter coating on the bottom of the BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars melts, they will stain, so consult your fabric guide if that happens. Otherwise, cleanup is simply throwing the foil wrapper away when you are done with the protein bar.

Overall

BSN Syntha-6 Protein Crisp Peanut Butter Crunch Bars are all right, though they are pricy and grainy, which makes them worth less than other bars that are more packed with nutrients. At least these taste like the peanut butter they are supposed to for the bulk of the bar!
