The Good: Great ingredients, Incredibly healthy
The Bad: Very expensive, Myah mostly refuses to eat it
The Basics: Myah turns up her nose at The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe, which was an unpleasant surprise based on her prior love of The Honest Kitchen dog foods.
Every now and then, I encounter a product that is pretty extraordinary and it opens my mind to an entirely different type of product. The Honest Kitchen Grain Free Base Mix (reviewed here!) was a dog food that truly opened my mind up to a different style of dog food and Myah absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, it also ruined Myah on similar dog foods. I was fortunate enough to get the Grain Free Base Mix at my local discount store, which has an ever-changing inventory and Myah fell in love with it. So, when the same discount store actually got in The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food, I bought up the entire stock. That was a huge mistake, as it turned out.
Myah adamantly refuses to eat The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food.
The fundamental difference between the Grain Free Base Mix and The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe is that the Grain Free Base Mix requires one to add meat to the dehydrated vegetable base, whereas the Love mix has dehydrated beef in the mix. The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe does not, however, have enough meat in it in any recognizable form for Myah to actually eat this food. Unless we add meat to it, she refuses to eat it - it's like she thinks we forgot to finish making her food and she refuses to eat it.
Basics
A single serving of The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food for a dog Myah’s size – she’s about seventy pounds now - is 2 1/2 cups of the dry mix per day, split into two meals. We have been trying to feed Myah only one meal a day from our box of The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe in order to make the Love last longer and so when we run out of The Honest Kitchen products, Myah would be able to go back to standard dry foods easier. As a result, we have made the ten pound box last more than two months, probably longer because Myah avoids eating it. The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe is a dehydrated meat and vegetable mix that is specially formulated for dogs, even though it has human grade quality ingredients. The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe looks a lot like potpourri that is heavily powdered (like bullion) and is a high-quality dog food that is based on prioritizing nutrition and the quality of the ingredients over affordability.
Ease Of Preparation
As a high quality dog food, The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe is everything shy of water to create a full meal. For a big dog like my Siberian Husky, each day she gets 1 1/4 cup of the Love Grain Free Beef Recipe with 2 cups of very hot water. After the near-boiling water is added, stir up the concoction and wait three minutes. That gives the mix enough time to reconstitute. The three minutes also gives the dog food a chance to cool down so that Myah will not burn her mouth on it.
Myah’s Reaction
The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe smells strongly like Beef bullion and vegetables. The Love mix smells while it is hot, but the aroma quickly fades, though when one sticks their nose near it one may smell something vaguely vegetable-like.
Myah avoids The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food. No matter how we prepare it, Myah refuses to eat the The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food. Myah went on a little hunger strike for more than two days once in her effort to avoid eating the Love. Instead, Myah will only eat the Love Grain Free Beef Recipe if we add meat or meaty dog food to the mix. Stirring in actual meat is all that gets Myah to eat The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe - otherwise, she adamantly refuses to consume this food.
Nutrition
The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food smells like dry fish food when the bag inside the box is opened. The Love Grain Free Beef Recipe is one of the most nutritious dog foods Myah has had. Made primarily of Dehydrated Beef, dehydrated sweet potatoes, and dehydrated potatoes, the ingredients are almost all natural and recognizable before becoming a chemistry equation designed to boost the health of the dog and preserve the vegetable ingredients.
According to the guaranteed analysis, The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food has at least 31% crude protein, 16% crude fat, but no more than 7% crude fiber and 7.8% moisture (before one adds water to it!). Even though one has to add water to reconstitute the The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food with water, it is highly recommended one have adequate water available to one's dog while feeding them the Love Grain Free Beef Recipe. Myah does not seem thirsty after consuming the The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food . . . when she actually finally eats it, when meat is added to it.
Overall
The Honest Kitchen Love Grain Free Beef Recipe dog food is fundamentally good, but given that Myah refuses to eat it, it is impossible to recommend.
