Somewhat Underwhelming, Sugar Plum Delight Peeps Are Not Exceptional . . . Or Horrible!

The Good: Somewhat flavorful, Fudge tastes good
The Bad: Lack of nutritional value, Comparatively expensive, Not at all very flavorful
The Basics: Lightly flavored, Peeps Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge are a bit more flavorful than traditional Peeps, but not by much and not in an enduringly good way.

While some people might absolutely love Peeps, I am not one who is bowled over by the candies. Even so, I am always psyched when I find a new flavor of them. So, I gladly picked up a package of Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps when I found them on clearance right after the winter holidays. Unfortunately, they were not an exceptional candy that bowled me over like I hoped they might. The vaguely spiced Peeps are overwhelmed by the flavor of the white chocolate they are dipped in.

Basics

Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are a marshmallow candy that were introduced during the Christmas Season. So far, they are found in a pack of three lilac colored Peeps chicks with tiny flecks of darker purple crystal sugar with about 1/8" white chocolate fudge on the underside of the chick. These are not coated in chocolate all the way around (there is another product for that) and they were released by Just Born. The three pack of Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps tended to run $1.99 - $2.99, which is about twice (or more) the average price of a four-pack of the regular peeps.

Each Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peep is almost two inches long by 3/4" wide by 3/4" tall and they are sugar-coated marshmallow candies with a very thin white fudge shell on the underside.

Ease Of Preparation

Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are pretty simple to prepare. Simply unwrap the plastic on the plastic container and pull that out. Each of the Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps is contained within its own plastic shell. Unlike the regular Peeps, the Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps tend not to have their sugar fall off. As a result, they seem to be more clean and simple to eat; simply remove it from the package and eat it!

Taste

Peeps Sugar Plum Delight candies smell like vaguely fruity. The scent of plums is subtle, but not unpleasant. The longer the Sugar Plum Delight Peeps are out of their container, the less strong the aroma is.

In the mouth, the Sugar Plum Delight Peeps are sugary with a hint of spice, much like clove. The Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are overwhelmed by the flavor of the white fudge on the bottom; the only way to taste the full spiced flavor - the fruit flavor is virtually absent from the palate - is to flip the Peeps over and put the sugary side on one's tongue. Otherwise, the fudge flavor overwhelms and the distinctive spiciness of the Sugar Plum Delight Peeps remains muted. The spiced flavor is not even particularly strong, though it is distinctive enough to differentiate these Peeps from the traditional Peeps candy.

Ironically, the muted clove flavor lingers in the mouth long after the candy and the white fudge flavor fades. The Sugar Plum Delight Peeps has an aftertaste that remains for about five minutes after the candy is consumed.

Nutrition

Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps make no claims to be healthy. This is a good thing because they would fail if they did! The three Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps in a package are a single serving. A serving has 150 calories, thirty of which are from fat. There are 25 mg of sodium and only 1 gram of protein. There are no vitamins or other nutritional benefits to Peeps and they have a whopping 31 grams of carbs per serving.

The lack of nutrition for the Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps comes from the fact that these are a candy. The main ingredients in Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are sugar, corn syrup, and gelatin. Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are gluten free and are not Vegan compliant considering there is gelatin, milk, whey and carnuba wax. There is nothing overly unfamiliar in the ingredient list, so these are not the worst candies ever.

Storage/Clean-Up

Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are easy enough to store. The Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps keep for quite some time. The package I got on clearance after the holidays last year had an expiration date of July 2016, so keeping them at room temperature or below seems to keep them fresh for a long period of time.

Clean-up is as easy, unless the chocolate melts onto something. Because the sugar does not seem inclined to fall off, the melting chocolate - or the melting Peep - is the only real worry. Like the preparation, there is nothing hard about storing or cleaning up after this candy.

Overall

Sugar Plum Delight Dipped In White Fudge Peeps are pricier than the usual Peeps, but not flavorful enough to justify the expense.
