The Good: Does not taste bad, Decent size for regulating portion, Inexpensive, No aftertaste
The Bad: No real nutritional benefit (and some detractions), Melts very easily, Somewhat unremarkable for the size/price, No caramel flavoring!
The Basics: The Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors candy bars fail to capture the richness of the cookies upon which they are based, making them impossible to recommend.
Now that my wife has left her horrible job at a major discount store chain for a pretty lousy job working for a national chain restaurant that has absolutely no practical respect for workplace laws as they pertain to break times and the like, I’ve been trying to eliminate all evidence around the house from her prior terrible employer. That means that today, I am eating up and reviewing a bit of candy around the house that she bought while working for the crappy retailer. Today, I am discovering just how unimpressed I am with the Limited Edition Crunch bars based on Girl Scout Cookies. I had already reviewed the Peanut Butter Crème (here!) and today I am trying the Caramel & Coconut bars my wife picked up for me.
The Caramel & Coconut bars are all right, but they do not taste at all like caramel, which undermines the entire flavor concept for me.
Basics
Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors are milk chocolate wafer cookie candies that come wrapped in a 1.3 oz size, which have two bars, each one is roughly one and three-sixteenth inches wide by two inches long and a 5/8" height. Interestingly, this is considered only one serving, so sharing the package with someone else cuts the calories in half! This is a fair candy that comes individually wrapped like virtually every other candy bar on the planet. This is a chocolate coated wafer cookie with Caramel & Coconut filling used between the wafer cookies. It is most analogous to a KitKat bar and it is not bad, even if it does not live up to its flavor promise.
For those who have never had a wafer cookie candy bar before, wafer cookies are a light, almost styrofoam-type layered sugary cookie that are layered to make a thicker cookie. Usually, between layers of the cookies is a substance like chocolate or vanilla cream; a paste that is flavored. Moisture - or saliva - dissolves the wafer and the cream within the coating, so many people who savor candy like this either let the coating melt away in their mouth and let the wafer cookie's cream center dissolve without chewing. That works perfectly well for the Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors.
The coating of the Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors is a milk chocolate coating with a patterned drizzle on the top that resembles (in color, but not flavor) caramel. It is a fairly bland and generic mass-produced milk chocolate coating and it's not going to win any awards for that, though it is not at all as waxy as many other mass produced chocolates. The coating is not strong enough to prevent the candy from getting crushed if one crushes the bar.
Ease Of Preparation
The Limited Edition Crunch bars are candy so preparation is pretty much limited to opening the wrapper and popping candy into one's mouth. Do not try to swallow Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors wafer candies whole and you'll be fine!
Taste
The Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors smells powerfully of coconut. The aroma is recognizable, strong, and instantly inviting to anyone who loves coconut.
On the tongue, the Caramel & Coconut Crème Crunch bars have a dry, surprisingly unsweet chocolate coating. The milk chocolate is subtle and overwhelmed by the coconut flavoring that bursts out from the cookie layers inside as soon as one bites into the bar. The coconut flavor dominates, even over the alleged caramel flavor to this cookie bar. There is not even an inkling of caramel sweetness in the bars I tried.
These candy bars have no real aftertaste to them!
Nutrition
This is candy, so it's not exactly designed to be the healthiest thing on the planet. The Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors candy bars are made primarily of sugar, wafer, and hydrogenated palm kernel oil. Surprisingly there are very few preservatives that were not recognizable.
Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors wafer candy bars have 190 calories per serving and the 10 grams of fat are somewhat intimidating! The 10 grams of fat represent 15% of the recommended daily value of fat and that's 45% of the daily recommended saturated fat. The nutrients pretty much diminish the simple pleasure of the candy! At least these candy bars don't taste like fat!
There are 70 milligrams of sodium and 17 grams of sugars. There is a single gram of protein in a serving of Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors wafer candies. The only other real nutrient is the 2% RDA of Calcium.
These are not nutritious, so if you were thinking of living off them, you might want to reconsider.
Storage/Clean-up
The Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors bars store just fine in its wrapper and as long as it is kept in a cool, dry (preferably dark) place they ought to last for quite some time, though I could not find an expiration date on mine (though there was a batch code, unless these bars do not expire until 2057!).
Like all chocolate products, it is not recommended to let the chocolate melt into any fabric as it will leave a stain. If it does so, be sure to consult a fabric guide to protect your clothes while getting them clean.
Overall
Crunch Caramel & Coconut Limited Edition Cookie Flavors bars left me utterly unimpressed. These looked like the cookies the Girl Scouts used to call Samoas, but they did not taste at all like those delightful caramel and coconut cookies, making these a real miss for Nestle.
