Not Overly Fruity, The Dora3 Croissant With Strawberry Filling Is Interesting, But Hardly Replaces Fresh-Baked.

The Good: Not entirely unhealthy, Decently priced, Tastes fine
The Bad: Not the most incredible taste, Could always be healthier, Could be fruitier
The Basics: Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling are good, but not as fruity or interesting as I would like.

Since moving to Michigan, I have eagerly begun enjoying new (to me) foods, even though they are not all distinctive to Michigan. At a nearby Big Lots store, my wife and I found the whole line of Dora3 prepackaged croissants. Each six pack called to us (for different reasons), but I opted to try the Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling first.

I found the Croissant with strawberry filling as a six pack for only $2.50 and at that price, these are far less expensive than the fresh-made croissants . . . well, pretty much anywhere! And having had a couple from the pack, my biggest complaint is that there is not enough fruit inside them to truly impress me. But on virtually every other front, they are all right!

Basics

Dora3 appears to be an Italian or French company and the prepackaged croissants are the only experience I have had with them so far. However, the six pack of Croissant with strawberry filling is not the only flavor they produce, so one suspects they are fairly popular worldwide!

Each Croissant with strawberry filling comes individually wrapped in a plastic wrap that is then put in a cardboard liner with five peers to make the standard six-pack these are found in. Each Croissant represents a single serving and each Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling is approximately 5” long, 2 ¾” wide, and 1 ½” thick. A package of Croissant with strawberry filling contains six pastries.

Ease Of Preparation

Eating a Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling is simple. After removing the plastic wrapper, simply pull out the croissant and stick it in your mouth. There is no particularly complicated equation to eating this snack; it is an entirely ready-to-eat food!

Taste

Unwrapping the Croissant with strawberry filling, the consumer is greeted by a light, freshly baked scent that smells like traditional rolls. There is no hint of a buttery or warm aroma like one might expect from a croissant. However, there is a slightly sweet and fruity secondary scent that enhances the fresh-baked bouquet that is dominant when opening the package.

Biting into the Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling, one is greeted by a light, sweet roll flavor. This actually tastes like a slightly sweeter version of a normal dinner roll. The flavor is not distinctly fruity for most of the bites. Instead, the sweetness is generic and indistinct, so the croissant is dominated instead by the flavor of the roll.

The strawberry flavor is present only in the strawberry jam center of the croissant and it is sweet, but not overwhelmingly fruit flavored. The strawberry flavor is sublimated to the jam medium that it is in and it blends with the roll more than it stands out from it.

Nutrition

Dora3 Croissant with strawberry fillings is intended as a breakfast food or a light snack. Each 50 gram Croissant with strawberry filling represent a single serving. Made primarily of “00” fine wheat flour, vegetable margarine, and water, there is nothing in the Croissant with strawberry filling that was unpronounceable.

Dora3's Croissant with strawberry filling have 210 calories, 80 of which are from fat. A full serving represents 20% of one's RDA of saturated fat and 30 mg of cholesterol. They have only 80 mg of sodium per serving and there are three grams of protein to be had by eating a full croissant. These are not a significant source of vitamins or minerals, though they do 2% of the RDA of Iron, Calcium, and Vitamin A.

Storage/Cleanup

As a breakfast food, Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling remain fresh so long as they are kept in their wrappers. Our box had an expiration date of December 13, 2012, so their shelf life seems somewhat limited. As long as the pastries are sealed, they remain fresh and the only real clean-up for them comes from wiping up crumbs one generates if they eat this sloppily.

If the strawberry filling gets warm, it might stain if it is wiped into fabrics. Under those awkward circumstances, this croissant would stain, but not otherwise. In fact, the lack of a buttery exterior eliminates some of the standard concerns one might have about eating a croissant!

Overall

Ultimately, Dora3 Croissant with strawberry filling are a light, interesting breakfast food, but they so not offer enough flavor for me to eagerly recommend.
