The Bad: Expensive, Bottle shape
The Basics: Well worth the expense, Softsoap Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash effectively cleans and exfoliates to leave skin clean, soft and smelling great!

My wife is a pretty amazing value shopper. I'm good when it comes to finding deals, but she is absolutely amazing. The latest amazing deal she found was a bottle of Softsoap Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash. The 15 fl. oz. bottle usually sells for $7.99 and she found one for $1.99! The deal is an amazing one not just because of the financial benefit, but because of the quality of the product. The Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is an effective, easy-to-use product that leaves skin feeling clean and soft!

Before encountering the Softsoap Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash, the only Softsoap product I had reviewed was their liquid hand soap (reviewed here!) and while I liked that, I have not sought out more Softsoap products. Indeed, body washes have been a product I am less eager to review because they usually seem disproportionately expensive to me. Softsoap's Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash initial price seems very steep to me, but one of the reasons I still consider it a value is that it is such a thick body wash that it stretches quite a bit, allowing the consumer to get far more out of it than more fluid (shampoo-like) body washes.

The Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is a thick off-white (think very light tan) fluid about the consistency of most hand creams. Suspended inside the off-white cream are sand-sized pieces of dark brown grit. That grit allows the body wash to buff away loose, dead skin and leave clean, fresh new skin exposed. Using the Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is simple. The bottle features a flip top that opens with the flick of the thumb. The bottle is easy enough to open and close one handed as to make it convenient in the tub or shower, especially if one is using a loufa or washcloth in the other hand. What is inconvenient is the bottle shape. The bottle of Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is roughly fish-shaped and about as slippery when wet. Over the course of the ten showers I used to get the data for this review, the bottle slipped out of my hands seven times! On the plus side, it did not crack or break when it did!

Dispensing the Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is very easy. Simply squeeze the bottle and apply the creamy body wash to your hand, loufa or cloth. In my experience, the body wash is so thick that it is like a concentrated cleaner. As a result, about a quarter to half dollar-sized dollop will clean my whole body when it mixes with the water from my shower or bath. I've found it most effective to dole out the body wash in dime-sized dollops in order to get the most out of each application, but generally it takes very little of this body wash to go a long way.

The grit feature of this body wash works exceptionally well. I've not encountered a body wash where the grit has been so fine, yet so effective. Frequently, I have encountered body wash products with more abrasive grit that is much harder to wash out. In the case of Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash, the grit is very fine, but it both effectively cleans and exfoliates without agitating skin. As well, this body wash washed off exceptionally well, with all of the grit coming off my body in about thirty-five seconds, which is something of a feat considering how poor the water pressure is in my neck of the woods! It is rare to discover a buffing body wash that both delivers on the cleaning aspect - as one who gardens and has a pet that has knocked me down outside several times of late - and the skin conditioning aspect. This one does.

Part of the reason the product washes off so well is that it lathers exceptionally well. Used sparingly, like in dime-sized portions, the Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash may be spread over an entire limb the way it lathers up. Simply agitating it on the skin yields a foamy, clean lather that both moisturizes the skin and removes the dirt or grime from it. And, when the water flows over it, it washes off easily leaving behind no film or residue, only clean, soft skin and a faint, wonderful smell.

I would be remiss in reviewing the Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash if I did not mention the aroma. As it ought to, this body wash has a strong, coconut smell with a slightly sweet undertone to it, which is probably the jojoba butter. The scent is invigorating and reminiscent of coconut milk and anyone who loves a good pina colada is likely to find this scent inviting. The scent effervesces well through a steamy shower and while all of the body wash washes off under running water, this body wash does an excellent job of conditioning the skin. In addition to leaving skin soft and having no residue, the Softsoap Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash leaves a faint coconut smell on the skin for about four hours after the shower! As one who has a strong scent memory, this is a nice benefit!

Perhaps the biggest surprise for me about Softsoap's Body Butter Coconut Scrub Body Buff Wash is that the primary ingredient is water. For a body wash that is so aromatic and cleans as well as this one does, it is astonishing to think it is primarily water in the ingredients. And yet, this works far, far better than water alone, making is exceptionally easy to recommend for the buy. At full price, it is a bit expensive, but I recommend it ultimately because it is worth the cost!
