Yawning Toward A Conclusion, "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" Is Boring Inhumans!

The Good: Moments of character, Competent-enough performances
The Bad: Overbearing soundtrack, Humor falls flat, Boring plot, Characters continue to be largely unremarkable and uninteresting.
The Basics: Inhumans continues with another bland episode in the form of "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon."


Friday night means another episode of Inhumans. For a component of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Inhumans is especially unremarkable. The primary characters of Inhumans oscillate between dull and derivative; the supporting characters are entirely unmemorable. The result is, it is tough to get at all excited about the latest episode.

Given that most of the Attilan Royal Family was reunited by the end of "Something Inhuman This Way Comes. . . " (reviewed here!), "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" seems like it is moving toward the inevitable confrontation between Maximus and his displaced family. "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" is meandering toward the obvious and it does so with no real spark or sense of intrigue.

In Attilan, Maximus has a dream of the Inhumans returning from Earth and Black Bolt killing him. When Audrey attempts to take a picture of Crystal for the Inhuman register, Crystal uses her powers to destroy her camera. As Crystal prepares to make a signal for her family, Maximus dispatches his unwitting warriors to Earth to eliminate the Attilan Royal Family. while Black Bolt and Medusa figure out Crystal's lightning signal, Gorgon and Karnak try to rescue Dr. Declan from Mordis and Auran.

Gorgon manages to take on Auran's forces. In the process, Gorgon has to protect Inhumans and humans from Mordis. When Audrey threatens Black Bolt at Dave's farm, the Inhumans have to use Lockjaw to escape. Maximus thwarts Tibor's coup, leading him to lose the confidence of his last close ally.

"The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" continues to employ a sprawling cast of characters in a rapidly-tightening plot. For most of the episode, the most significant character is Karnak. "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" is very much "How Karnak Got His Groove Back" and he and Gorgon confidently attempt to rescue the hostages. Karnak is out of sorts following his human girlfriend's death and how slow he has been to regain his powers. In "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon," Karnak comes into his own.

The romantic subplot between Crystal and Dave is simplistic, juvenile and plays poorly opposite the bigger themes in the episode.

In "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" finally comes across entirely as bat shit crazy.

The heavy moments of "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" are undermined completely by the overbearing soundtrack in the episode. Pop ballads play loudly over key scenes and it is distracting and somewhat ridiculous.

Ultimately, "The Gentleman's Name Is Gorgon" is boring and obvious; failing to rise even to being watchable.
