When Inexpensive Is Unfortunately Cheap: White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash Underwhelms!

The Good: Inexpensive, Good initial aroma
The Bad: Scent fades fast, Poor lather quality, Not antibacterial, No scrubbing grit
The Basics: White Rain Clean & Simple Ocean Mist Body Wash is an unfortunately disappointing body wash.

I tend to be a thrifty person, but as I have gotten older, I have come to recognize the difference between products that are inexpensive and those that are cheap. If a product barely does what it promises or does not do what it is supposed to at all, it does not matter how little it costs initially. While White Rain is known for being a product line that usually works to delight consumers while costing very little up front, my experiences with White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash were unfortunately disappointing. White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash only cleaned on the most basic level, making it a cheap, not inexpensive, body wash.

The White Rain Ocean Mist body wash is a fairly disappointing and indistinct body wash, without a strong or enduring scent, which is not abrasive enough to cleanse or exfoliate. It is ideal for those who want to clean their bodies without drying skin out . . . without doing much else and, sadly, requiring quite a bit of product to do what it promises.

The 12 fl. oz. bottle of White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash sells for $1.99 in Michigan and I was surprised by how fast I went through the bottle I purchased. The Ocean Mist Body Wash is an ineffective, but easy-to-use product that generally leaves skin clean. When one is especially dirty, the best this does is get one clean; it does not deodorize without one truly scrubbing one’s skin excessively and the truth is, the White Rain Ocean Mist body wash is far less effective than a good, abrasive loofah.

Body washes generally seem disproportionately expensive to me, though the White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash was one of the less expensive body washes by price. White Rain's Ocean Mist Body Wash initial price is reasonable, though it does offer less than other body washes that actually exfoliate or have distinctive scents in the same price range. As well, the Ocean Mist Body Wash does not lather up very well, so one ends up using a disproportionately high amount of the body wash each time one washes with it. The result is that one goes through the bottle much faster than with a higher-quality body wash.

The Ocean Mist Body Wash is a translucent blue fluid about the consistency of most shampoos. This is a smooth body wash, so it does nothing to exfoliate the skin. Using the Ocean Mist Body Wash is simple. The bottle features a flip top that opens with the flick of the thumb. The bottle is easy enough to open and close one handed as to make it convenient in the tub or shower, especially if one is using a loofah or washcloth in the other hand. The bottle of Ocean Mist Body Wash is fairly flat on the front and back and rounded on the sides. It is slippery when wet, so it is important to get a good grip on this body wash bottle!

Dispensing the Ocean Mist Body Wash is very easy. Simply squeeze the bottle and apply the fluidic body wash to your hand, loofah or cloth. In my experience, the body wash is more fluidic than creamy and, as a result, comes out of the bottle very easily when one squeezes it. Unfortunately, the volume of body wash needed to actually spread the body was on the skin - because it does not lather up much - is ridiculously high, almost a tenth of a bottle per shower!

No matter how much I agitated the White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash, it did not lather up much at all. Without a loofah or other rough applicator, it does not remove dirt or grime beyond what one expects from water running. As the water flows over it, it washes off easily leaving behind no film or residue, only generally clean skin.

The Ocean Mist Body Wash is not antibacterial and the light, slightly salty, scent quickly dissipates after the bottle is open and the product is dispensed. The aroma does not endure on the skin at all once the body wash is rinsed off. This makes it a poor choice for deodorizing.

Ultimately, White Rain Ocean Mist Body Wash disappoints by not being a very effective cleaner, having an utterly unmemorable scent and possessing a poor lather quality so the original value of the bottle is quickly eroded.
