The Good: Very healthy, Tastes good.
The Bad: Could be a little more vanilla-flavored.
The Basics: WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla cookies are better than the chocolate version of the same cookies! Wow!
I’m not sure that most websites actually realize that then they tinker with a system that works, it really upsets those who are early adopters who like what they found. That comes to me as I consider the WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Vanilla Cookies because when I reviewed the chocolate ones (reviewed here!), I was on CalorieCount doing all I could to improve my health and lose the winter weight from two years ago. I succeeded, but my wife and I pretty much abandoned the site when they changed the format and only allowed the original look, feel and functionality of the site as a part of a paid service. But I am still committed to eating healthier and now that I know many of my weak spots, it is a lot easier for me to stay healthy. Part of that is eating healthier snacks, like the WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Vanilla flavored cookies.
WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla flavored cookies are trying to compete with brand named Oreo sandwich cookies. At $4.99 for only thirty-nine cookies, I am not complaining about the price. I’m not complaining about the price because WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Vanilla cookies were priced competitively with other cookies. Because WhoNu? cookies are still relatively new, it is still easy to find coupons for them!
Basics
WhoNu? is a new company that is creating healthy alternatives to traditional cookies. By replicating the look and feel of favorites like chocolate chip cookies and Oreo-style sandwich cookies, WhoNu? is starting to make it easy to replace old favorites with new, healthy options. The WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla cookies are the replacements for white. Sandwich cookies have never been my favorite type of cookie, but WhoNu?’s vanilla flavor might get me to rethink that!
Each 11 gram WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookie is two tan/yellow disks approximately 1 7/8” in diameter, connected by a thin layer of white icing that holds the two cookies together. Vanilla Nutrition Rich Cookies come in a 15.2 oz. box with a plastic tray that houses the thirty-nine cookies the box comes with. The box and tray do a decent job of preventing breakage, at least until one begins to eat many or most of these cookies. A serving of WhoNu? Vanilla Nutrition Rich sandwich cookies is three cookies.
Ease Of Preparation
Eating WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla cookies is not a real challenge, but getting to the cookies is. WhoNu? wisely created a bag within the box of cookies that is resealable. That resealable pouch surrounds the thin plastic tray that houses the cookies. The seam for the releasable opening is not at the top or side of the tray, though, it is at the middle. This makes it slightly more awkward to get the cookies out of the package. This might be a subtle way to enforce portion control.
When you have a cookie out, all you have to do is stick it in your mouth and chew; there is nothing complicated or foreign about eating these cookies.
Taste
Opening the resealable inner wrap around the WhoNu? Vanilla cookies reveals a delightfully vanilla aroma. The scent is much like vanilla bean and it instantly insinuates that these cookies will be more flavorful than the average vanilla sandwich cookie.
And, much to my surprise, WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Vanilla Cookies deliver! Placing the cookie on the tongue, I encountered their very dry exterior. The outer cookies of this sandwich cookie are dry, but very sweet. The sweet exterior flavor is augmented by the delicious creamy frosting between the two Vanilla cookies. The combination of the cream and sweet shell gives these cookies a good, if somewhat generic, vanilla flavor. The initial flavor of these cookies is more sweet and vanilla than dry, so that instantly puts them above a vast number of cookies on the market!
These cookies leave a fairly dry aftertaste in the mouth, so they are ideal when accompanied by milk or water.
Nutrition
WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Chocolate Snack Bars are intended as a sweet snack, not a full meal. Three of these 11 gram cookies represent a single serving and they have a boatload of nutrients in them. Made primarily of wheat flour, sugar and vegetable oils, the ingredient list includes a separate list of minerals and vitamins, implying they are sprayed on to boost the nutritional value of this product. This is not an all-natural food product and these cookies were produced on equipment that forces them to add a disclaimer about milk, soy, and wheat.
WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies's Vanilla cookies have only 150 calories for a three cookie serving, 50 of which are from fat. A full serving represents 8% of one's RDA of saturated fat, though they are cholesterol free. As well, they are fairly low in sodium for a cookie, having only 80 mg per serving. They also have a gram of protein and ten percent of thirteen different vitamins and minerals! As one who is working on getting heart-healthy, I appreciate the 3 grams of dietary fiber per serving. There is also 20 – 30% of the RDA of Vitamins A, C, D, E, and B12, Calcium, and Iron. These are healthier than most fruit juices on the market.
Storage/Cleanup
WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla cookies are easy to care for and clean up. Unopened, they have a pretty short shelf life; we purchased a box on the first day of April (2012) and they have an expiration date of September 20, 2012. Kept sealed, I am sure they would have lasted at least that long. As cookies, one need only not shake the box excessively to care for them and wipe away any crumbs after eating them. This is a low-stress food!
Overall
WhoNu? Nutrition Rich Cookies Vanilla cookies are wonderfully healthy cookies that are well worth picking up for anyone who enjoys cookies and sweet snacks, but who needs to eat healthy!
