I have an appreciation for the niche market of truly healthy fruit juices and bottled fruit smoothies. In my quest to find healthy beverage options, I have often encountered - and largely rejected - juices that include coconut water (or flavored coconut waters on their own). So, when my local grocery store started selling Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness, which was coconut water based, I thought nothing of it. But when the store decided to clearance a couple bottles of the Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness, I figured that it was about time that I try it.

Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness is a pleasant surprise and the first beverage I can think of that included coconut water that I'd love to have more of!

Basics

Bolthouse Farms is a health drink brand, which is a full-health beverage (as opposed to being a liquid vitamin supplement) and, as a general rule, they tend to taste better than energy drinks. This is a fruit beverage that naturally contains several nutrients. Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness comes in a 15.2 fl. oz. plastic bottle that is smooth and very portable. The #1 recyclable bottle is filled with the fairly opaque light pink liquid. Bolthouse Farms juice products is one of the leading manufacturer of healthy prepared beverages, both of fruit juices and dairy beverages.

The 15.2 fl. oz. bottle gives consumers just under two full servings, though the bottle is not marked with clear delineations for each serving.

Ease Of Preparation

Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness is a liquid in the 15.2 fl. oz. bottle and is a ready-to-drink beverage. So, preparation is as easy as opening a plastic bottle. Tropical Goodness has a plastic cap that easily twists off and can be put back on in order to reseal it. It is important to note that this is supposed to be refrigerated, so quality of the beverage may degrade if it is left out at room temperature before or after the bottle is open. This has a pretty standard security seal ring around the lower half of the cap and informs the consumer as to whether the product has been opened by cracking off when the top is twisted.

Taste

The Tropical Goodness smells fruity, of coconut water and pineapple. The aroma is fruity and subtle, though it is aromatic enough to be inviting. The coconut water and pineapple scents are enough to evoke a slight memory of pina coladas, which is pretty cool.

In the mouth, the Tropical Goodness is a pretty distinct blend of pineapple, coconut water and guava. A few years ago, I probably would not have recognized the flavor of guava juice, but the Tropical Goodness tastes like it. The sweet, fruity flavor of the guava plays nicely off the pineapple and the blend manages to never develop the taste of dry from the coconut water or sour for the pineapple. Instead of overwhelming each other, the blend of juices in the Tropical Goodness manage to compliment one another well and work together to create a delightful drink.

The Tropical Goodness has a slightly sweet aftertaste to it.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit beverage, Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, most notably Manganese and Vitamins A and C, which the Tropical Goodness has a decent amount of! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness is an option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health, who are looking for specific nutrients and hydration. Tropical Goodness is made primarily of: coconut water from concentrate, pineapple juice from concentrate, and apple juice from concentrate. It contains nothing bad and it is gluten free, though it does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also very healthy. One serving of Tropical Goodness has .5 grams of fat and 110 calories. While there are 26 grams of sugars and a gram of protein, the beverage has no cholesterol! There are 60 mg (3% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a decent source of five key vitamins and minerals.

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few weeks. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit product and watery light pink color. If this gets on light clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms Tropical Goodness is a healthy fruit juice drink that is more than enough to make one rethink coconut water!

Despite The Indistinct Flavor, Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness Is SO Good!

I love Bolthouse Farms beverages. They are my healthy way to avoid eating a ton of fruits and vegetables. But there are a few that I enjoy while still being able to recognize that they are not exceptional. Perhaps the one I find myself purchasing the most without any clear understanding of why, other than that the drink meets a number of basic nutritional needs is the Green Goodness.

Green Goodness is a drink I have had many times and in order to try writing about it, I had to blindfold myself and re-try it. After all, it is tough to describe something's flavor as "green" and on the flavor front, there is not honestly any flavor that is even reminiscent of vegetables. And yet, when one looks at the drink and then drinks it, the mind sometimes inserts something more veggie to this fruit drink!

The overall flavor is much like a melted milkshake, if there were an apple and kiwi milkshake to be had. The fruit flavors in this drink are more muted than distinct, but they are not bad.

The Green Goodness has virtually no aftertaste to it.

Upper End Of Average: Bolthouse Farms C-Boost Blows Standard Juices Away!

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms C-Boost tastes fine and has good nutritional value, though there are other Bolthouse blends with better tastes and more of a vitamin punch to them.


Bolthouse Farms has a number of admirable products and the quality of their products has generally forced me to raise the bar when I consider other juices. While it is hard to match Bolthouse Farms on the nutrition (and variety!) front, sometimes Bolthouse has a tough time reaching its own high standards. With its huge line of juices and protein-enhanced drinks that supply scores of vitamins and minerals (much like Total Cereal does), Bolthouse Farms occasionally has trouble getting a rave review from me simply because I find one of their products that is not as loaded with nutrients and/or does not have a great taste. Bolthouse Farms C-Boost is one of those beverages.

Don’t get me wrong; C-Boost tastes good, but it doesn’t have a delightful or distinctive flavor that makes one think “I should seek that drink out.” Similarly, given that other Bolthouse beverages like the Mango Protein Plus (reviewed here!) have more nutrients, one does not have a lot to be drawn to with the C-Boost.

Taste

C-Boost smells fruity and energizing. Interestingly, the main aroma from the C-Boost is that of pears. From an orange-colored, citrus juice, there is something disconcerting about such a strong pear scent coming from it.

The incongruence ends when one gets the C-Boost into the mouth. Away from the sight/smell schism, the C-Boost pops as a strong mix of pear and mango flavors. This tastes like a more flavorful version of apple juice, with a slight citrus tang to the finishing flavor. The mango does not overwhelm the pear flavor, so it is surprising that the C-Boost tastes as good as it does; pear juice is a fairly indistinct flavor of juice.

The C-Boost has a slightly sweet aftertaste that does not last very long.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit beverage, Bolthouse Farms C-Boost is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, most notably Vitamin C, which the C-Boost has 1200% of your RDA of! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms C-Boost is an option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health, who are looking for specific nutrients and hydration. C-Boost contains pear juice from concentrate, mango juice from concentrate, and acerola puree from concentrate (among other things). It contains nothing bad and it is gluten free and does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also very healthy. One serving of C-Boost has no fat and 120 calories. While there are 27 grams of sugars and a gram of protein, the beverage has no cholesterol! There are 10 mg (0% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a decent source of Vitamin A (50% RDA). It has vastly more than your daily needs for Vitamin C.

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms C-Boost comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle I bought on two days ago had an expiration date of April 1, 2015. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit product and dull orange. If this gets on light clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms C-Boost is a very average juice and an unremarkable Bolthouse Farms beverage. While it does not taste bad at all, I find it’s really only worth picking up when the Protein Plus fruit smoothies are not available.

A Tale Of Erratic Flavor (And Excellent Nutrition): Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots!

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots is a vegetable juice that is made with excellent ingredients, but still tastes pretty horrible.


I love Bolthouse Farms. It’s a good company and it makes very healthy products that (usually) taste wonderful. The taste is not something that the Daily Roots vegetable juice drink has going for it. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst flavors Bolthouse Farms makes. While this is a very healthy beverage, it is no surprise to me that I was able to find it on clearance today at the grocery store. Ironically, this drink was one of many I found on clearance today at the local grocery store and the only way I’ve managed to keep it down is by pairing it with all of the clearance bacon I bought today!

The Daily Roots is a mix of vegetable juices and “boosts” (added vitamins) and it is pretty much only worthwhile for those who need to drink their vegetables, have no taste buds and too much money!

Taste

The Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots smells like beets and radishes. The acidic scent of the juice is anything but inviting and the aroma is not reminiscent of anything other than vegetables. The acidic, somewhat sour scent of this vegetable drink is pungent and very root-oriented.

In the mouth, the Daily Roots flavor is exceptionally variable. One moment, there is a strongly onion flavor mixed with beets and carrots, the next moment there is a rooty-beet flavor that tastes almost like it is mixed with tomatoes. The vegetable flavors are fairly sour and only a little salty. This beverage tastes mostly like liquefied beets, onions and radishes. The flavor is distinctive, but not terribly good.

The Daily Roots drink has a slightly sour aftertaste; the aftertaste actually does not last very long in the mouth.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit and vegetable beverage, Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, most notably Vitamin A, which the Daily Roots has 70% of your RDA of! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots is an option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health, who are looking for specific nutrients and hydration. Daily Roots contains beet juice from concentrate, purple carrot juice from concentrate, and cucumber juice from concentrate (among other things). It contains nothing bad and it is gluten free and does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

The Daily Roots drink is very healthy. One serving of Daily Roots has no fat and only 60 calories. While there are 13 total grams of carbohydrates, 10 grams of sugars and 3 grams of protein, the beverage has no cholesterol! There are 210 mg (9% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a decent source of Calcium, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Iron (25% RDA each), Vitamin C (20% RDA) and Folate (10% RDA). The Daily Roots beverage is incredible for Manganese (50% RDA) and Zinc (40% RDA).

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle I bought this morning would have expired on October 22 of this year had I not drunk it all up. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit and vegetable product and dark purple-red. If this gets on clothes, it will aboslutely stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms Daily Roots is not one of the poorest Bolthouse beverages, it tastes pretty foul and given how many incredibly good Bolthouse Farms beverages there are that taste exceptionally good, it is impossible to recommend it.

Fruity, Delicious, (Mostly) Nutritious: Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost Satisfies!

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost Fruit Juice Smoothie might be their most distinctive berry-flavored beverage from the health drink company.


One of the nice things about my mother-in-law coming to visit is that it encourages my wife and I to try new things and we usually end up sharing exciting new (to us) products with my mother-in-law. On her last trip, she actually picked something up that was new to us! As a fan of Bolthouse Farms beverages, I was pretty psyched when my mother-in-law picked up a big bottle of Berry Boost, a flavor I had yet to try, and left it behind when she left! While some of the blends that Bolthouse Farms produces fall just a little short with me for failing to have a distinctive flavor, the Berry Boost is not one of those blends! While there are a number of flavors in the drink, the net result is a pretty diversified flavor as opposed to a generic mash flavor.

Berry Boost Fruit Juice Smoothie is pretty wonderful and well worth trying for anyone who is looking for a much healthier alternative to standard fruit juice.

The #1 recyclable bottle is filled with the opaque dark purple liquid, which looks much like a bunch of fruit was just blended together, that is Berry Boost. Bolthouse Farms juice products is one of the leading manufacturer of healthy prepared beverages, both of fruit juices and dairy beverages.

The 15.2 fl. oz. bottle is intended to give consumers just under two servings, which seems pretty ridiculous to me. For some strange reason, Bolthouse Farms cheaps out on a full 16 fl. oz. bottle, which would be two servings.

Taste

The Berry Boost is exceptionally fruity in its bouquet. The smell is strongly of blueberries and strawberries. I was surprised by how much the aroma from this beverage carries the scent of banana in it as well.

In the mouth, the flavor of berries dominates the palate entirely. The fruit flavor is very much the flavor of raspberries and strawberries blended together. The fruit flavor is entirely true and as a result, it has a slightly sour finishing taste that follows the initial sweetness of the beverage. The Berry Boost has an intriguing flavor that can change with temperature or just from various sips. As a result, I had mouthfuls that bore more of an apple, blueberry or even a slight banana flavor instead of the solid raspberry and strawberry juice flavor the drink initially possessed!

This Bolthouse Farms Berry Boost has a slightly sour aftertaste, but it does not linger for more than a minute or two on the tongue.

It is gluten free and does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is very healthy. One serving of Berry Boost has no fat and 130 calories. While there are 24 grams of sugars, the beverage has no cholesterol and a single gram of protein! Rather nicely, there are only 15 mg (1% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a sufficient source of Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin B12. One serving has five times your daily needs for Vitamin C!

The Nog Not Worth Tracking Down: Bolthouse Farms Holiday Nog Is Disappointing!

The Good: Not as fatty as most egg nogs
The Bad: Expensive, Not as nutritionally beneficial as other Bolthouse Farms beverages, It does not taste great
The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog is an unfortunate waste of money, which is a real rarity for Bolthouse Farms!


I am a big fan of egg nog. I love how the drink is spicy and thick and delicious. There is something fabulous about egg nog and I know that it is probably better for my health and waistline that I can’t get it all year round. So, when I saw that Bolthouse Farms had a new Holiday Nog on the shelves this year, I was excited. My hope was that it would have the health benefits of Bolthouse Farms drinks and the incredible flavor of egg nog.

The Holiday Nog is only available locally in the 52 fl. oz. bottle and that runs $5.99 here. It would have been nice if Bolthouse Farms had released the beverage with a festive reduced price for those of us on a budget, but given how unfortunately flavored this drink is, its price matters less than I would have thought!

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog comes in a 52 fl. oz. plastic bottle that is smooth and not very portable at all. The #1 recyclable bottle is filled with the opaque brown liquid, reminiscent of chocolate milk, which is Limited Edition Holiday Nog. Bolthouse Farms products are one of the leading manufacturers of healthy prepared beverages and one that has the widest (and most consistently delicious) portfolio.

The 52 fl. oz. bottle is intended to give consumers six and a half servings, which continues the company’s regrettable tradition of not providing full, even servings in a bottle.

Ease Of Preparation

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog is a liquid in the 52 fl. oz. bottle and is a ready-to-drink beverage. So, preparation is as easy as opening a plastic bottle. Bolthouse Farms beverages have a plastic cap that easily twists off and can be put back on in order to reseal it. It is important to note that this is supposed to be refrigerated, so quality of the beverage may degrade if it is left out at room temperature before or after the bottle is open. This has a pretty standard security seal ring around the lower half of the cap and informs the consumer as to whether the product has been opened by cracking off when the top is twisted.

Taste

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog has a surprisingly light aroma to it. It smells mostly of vanilla and does not at all foreshadow the flavor that will be coming when it hits one’s tongue. Unlike Egg Nog, the Holiday Nog does not smell like nutmeg or any other spices.

In the mouth, the Holiday Nog is surprisingly bland. The flavor of whole milk (which is what it tastes like by texture and basic flavor) is cut by a strong undertone of carrot juice. There is a faint vanilla flavor that comes in and out; the dominant flavors are milk and carrot juice, which is rather unsettling.

The Holiday Nog has a slight eggy and milky aftertaste to it. The carrot juice also has a somewhat souring aftertaste that lingers for about two minutes after one is done drinking it.

Nutrition

As a healthy dairy beverage, Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog Beverage is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, while tasting like egg nog. Sadly, this drink falls down on both fronts. Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog is a mediocre option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health; it is nowhere near as bad as egg nog is for one’s health, but nowhere near as healthy as any other Bolthouse Farms drink I’ve reviewed. Limited Edition Holiday Nog is primarily composed of low-fat milk, filtered water, and cane sugar. It contains nothing bad and it is somewhat surprising how strong the carrot juice flavor is when carrot juice from concentrate is one of the last ingredients in the ingredients list. While it is gluten free, it contains milk and whey, so it is in no way Vegan compliant. On the plus side, though, there are no preservatives nor artificial flavors.

This drink is not very healthy, though not as bad as actual egg nog. One serving of Limited Edition Holiday Nog has only 1.5 g fat and 80 calories, 15 of which come from the fat. While there are 12 grams of sugars (12 total grams of carbohydrates), the beverage has only 15 mg of cholesterol and 4 grams of protein! Surprisingly, there are only 65 mg (3% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving does not have significant percentages of any nutrients; the highest is 10% of the RDA of Calcium with 6% of the RDA of Vitamin A as the only other significant nutrient!

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle my wife and I bought in early December had an expiration date of January 24, 2014 (ours was consumed and this review written well in advance of that!). This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a dairy product and fairly light. If this gets on light clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Holiday Nog is an unfortunately vegetable flavored drink that tastes nothing like egg nog, making it a far from festive drink option this holiday season.

Worth Hunting Down, Bolthouse Farms Peppermint Mocha Coffee Beverage Thrills Mint Lovers!

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha is worth the price and satisfies those who love mint flavored coffee . . . while it is available.


Despite reviewing hundreds of beverages and having a real affinity for mint, I have not encountered a truly perfect mint coffee beverage. There are some amazing mint cocoas, most notably the Land O’ Lakes Mint & Chocolate Cocoa (reviewed here!), but coffee and mint seldom manage to be blended in a way that does justice to both of them. Truth be told, Bolthouse Farms’s new limited edition Peppermint Mocha coffee beverage suffers from the same problem; it is essentially a glorified chocolate milk . . . but it tastes so incredible on the mint and chocolate front that it is virtually impossible to care about how it might not please coffee drinkers (as a coffee beverage). I know that I did not care at all that the coffee flavor was muted until I had to consider the drink for review.

In fact, the bigger strike against the Peppermint Mocha is its price. The Peppermint Mocha is only available (at least locally) in the 52 fl. oz. bottle and that runs $5.99 here. Taste

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha smells delightfully of peppermint. The cool, clean scent of peppermint wafts out of whatever vessel one pours the beverage into and invites the consumer to consume it.

On the tongue, what one might expect to be milky (from its color and viscosity) is instead thoroughly minty. The drink is cool and finishes with a dry, chocolate flavor that defines the mocha experience. The mint and chocolate flavor of the Peppermint Mocha is like drinking a really good candy bar, or a peppermint stick that was melted into a cup of hot chocolate and cooled. There is no recognizable coffee flavor to this coffee beverage.

For a drink that finishes dry on the tongue, it is pretty astounding that there is no dry aftertaste. Instead, the peppermint flavor comes back after the chocolate to leave one’s tongue feeling cold, fresh and minty! While this might not make it an ideal winter drink, it certainly makes the Peppermint Mocha a festive minty beverage well worth trying!

Nutrition

As a healthy dairy beverage, Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha Coffee Beverage is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, while tasting awesome! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha is a good option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health. Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha is primarily composed of low-fat milk, coffee and filtered water. It contains nothing bad, but does have additional vitamins pumped into it. While it is gluten free, it contains milk and whey, so it is in no way Vegan compliant. On the plus side, though, there are no preservatives nor artificial flavors.

This drink is also very healthy for you. One serving of Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha has only 2.5 g fat and 130 calories, 25 of which come from the fat. While there are 18 grams of sugars (20 total grams of carbohydrates), the beverage has only 15 mg of cholesterol and a whopping 7 grams of protein! Surprisingly, there are 95 mg (4% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a sufficient source of Vitamin C. The Peppermint Mocha has more than your daily needs for Vitamins B6 and Vitamin B12, so this truly is a healthy beverage (ironically, more healthy than many fruit juices I have reviewed!).

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle my wife and I bought in mid-November had an expiration date of December 14, 2013. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a dairy product and dark because of the cocoa powder and coffee in it. If this gets on clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

There are few seasonal beverages that I enthusiastically recommend consumers hunt down: Bolthouse Farms Limited Edition Peppermint Mocha might well be the best prepared beverage worth the time and attention of consumers I have experienced in years!

A Wonderful Dessert Beverage, Bolthouse Farms Salted Caramel Latte Delights!

One of the wonderful things about changing my diet to eat healthier is that I get to try all sorts of wonderful new (to me) products. In the case of the Bolthouse Farms Salted Caramel Latte, the delight is in trying a truly new-to-market product. Fortunately, Bolthouse Farms created a beverage worth trying in its Salted Caramel Latte. It is not the best, most nutritious, drink produced by Bolthouse Farms, but it is flavorful and true to its promised flavor. In fact, the only people it is bound to underwhelm are those looking for a strong, decent coffee beverage. This is like an amped up, flavored milk drink than a coffee drink.

The 15.2 fl. oz. bottle is intended to give consumers just under two servings, which seems pretty ridiculous to me. It would be nice if Bolthouse Farms added the other .8 oz. so we actually got two full servings out of a bottle!

Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Salted Caramel Latte smells very lightly like coffee or caramel. In fact, this is one of the least aromatic Bolthouse Farms beverages I have yet tried. Instead, the scent does not preview much of a flavor at all. It hints at nothing, making one believe they will just be drinking milk when they sip from this bottle.

On the tongue, the Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Salted Caramel Latte is like liquid caramel, sweet and lightly salted. The creamy, milklike flavor of the beverage entirely overcomes the coffee flavor. Still, the flavor is entirely true to salted caramel, which makes the drink a smashing success on the flavor front.

The aftertaste from the Perfectly Protein Salted Caramel Latte beverage is very dry, so this is not at all a thirst quenching drink. Still, given that it is salted caramel, it is unsurprising that the aftertaste would be very dry, so this is not unsatisfying.

Perfectly Protein Salted Caramel Latte is primarily composed of low-fat milk, coffee and caramel syrup. It contains nothing bad, but does have additional vitamins pumped into it. While it is gluten free, it contains milk and whey, so it is in no way Vegan compliant. On the plus side, though, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also exceptionally healthy for you. One serving of Perfectly Protein Salted Caramel Latte has 2.5 g fat and 130 calories, 25 of which come from the fat. While there are 20 grams of carbohydrates, the beverage has only 15 mg of cholesterol and an impressive 7 grams of protein! Unsurprisingly, there are 150 mg (6% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a sufficient source of Vitamin C, Calcium (30% RDA!), and Vitamin B12. It has more than your daily needs for Vitamin B6, so this truly is a healthy beverage (ironically, healthier than many fruit juices I have reviewed!).

Those looking for a coffee pick-me-up will be let down, but those looking for a nice dessert beverage and a healthier alternative to a simple shake, the Salted Caramel Latte fits the bill nicely.

It Might As Well Be Pistachio Milk, Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Soy Latte

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte is another wonderful beverage from Bolthouse Farms, though it is hardly a thirst-quencher!


As I have gotten back into the habit of eating well, I am finding healthier things to review once again. Today, that takes the form of Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte drink. This was a beverage I picked up on a lark because I like the brand, not because I had any particular love of green tea. I do, however, like chai lattes and being able to try a new flavor of Bolthouse Farms drinks appeals to me. So, I was pleasantly surprised when the Green Tea Soy Latte was good, but unsurprised when it was not great and enough to make me truly consider it one of the more memorable outings in the Bolthouse Farms drink line.

With the Green Tea Soy Latte, Bolthouse Farms continues its tradition of making healthy comparatively expensive. Despite how good the Green Tea Soy Latte soy drink is, the $3.29 (locally) for a 15.2 fluid ounce bottle, makes me ration the drink to the actual serving size!

The Green Tea Soy Latte smells nicely like pistachio pudding. It is actually surreal and very inviting for those who like the creamy, salty flavor of such pudding!

On the tongue, however, this is a creamy beverage that has the distinctive taste of green tea. The green tea flavor kicks in after the initial milky flavor. This has a dry and nutty aftertaste after the initial milky, creamy texture and flavor fades. Otherwise, this is essentially green tea flavored milk.

The dry aftertaste lingers for about three minutes, but it is not an unpleasant aftertaste. It is nutty, though, and that makes it far from being a thirst quencher.

As a healthy tea and soy beverage, Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, while tasting good! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte is a decent, but not exceptional, option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health. 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte is primarily composed of soy milk from concentrate, matcha green tea, and cane sugar. It contains nothing bad and does not have additional vitamins pumped into it. It is gluten free and because it is soy milk instead of milk from an animal, it appears to be Vegan complaint! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also exceptionally healthy for you. One serving of 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte has 3 g fat and 150 calories, 25 of which come from the fat. While there are 25 grams of sugars, the beverage has no cholesterol and a whopping 7 grams of protein! Surprisingly, there are 80 mg (3% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a sufficient source of Calcium (30% RDA!) and more than your daily needs for Vitamin C so this truly is a healthy beverage (ironically, more healthy than many fruit juices I have reviewed!).

The bottle my wife and I bought last month had an expiration date of June 25, 2013. This beverage must be refrigerated, though because it does not contain any actual dairy products, I am not exactly sure why.

This drink is a soy product and light because that is just how soymilk is. If this gets on clothes, it ought not stain them, unless they are white (this drink is green). Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect the drink shouldn’t be allowed to soak into your clothes and stay there. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

I enjoyed the Bolthouse Farms 100% Matcha Green Tea Green Tea Soy Latte, but it was not a superlative Bolthouse Farms beverage. It tastes all right, but it is not the most flavorful or distinct flavor in the line, nor is it the healthiest. That makes it easy to recommend, but not one to run out to stock up on.

All Sorts Of Nutrition, With An Intriguing Flavor, Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend Is Worth Picking Up!

The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts is a good addition to the Bolthouse drink line worth picking up for anyone who likes berry-flavored beverages!


Summer is here, which means many of my drink reviews will focus on fruity or cold beverages once again. That means, I am turning my attentions back to one of my new favorite brands, Bolthouse Farms. Yesterday, as part of my wife and I eating (and drinking) healthier, I spent a couple bucks on some new (to me) Bolthouse Farms beverages and while the local selection is somewhat dismal, I found the 15.2 fluid ounce bottle of Acai + 10 Superblend 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts. Despite thinking Acai is another fruit trend like pomegranate, which I loathe, I picked up a bottle of the Acai + 10 Superblend anyway.

And it was all right!

Acai + 10 Superblend 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts is good, but for the money, I hoped for a little more in the way of vitamin and mineral content from the beverage.

The 15.2 fl. oz. bottle is intended to give consumers just under two servings, which seems pretty ridiculous to me. For some strange reason, Bolthouse Farms cheaps out on a full 16 fl. oz. bottle, which would be two servings.

Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend smells sour and disturbingly uninviting. The scent is like a mix of carrots, fermenting grapes and curdled milk. Alas, this is not a drink that screams “Consume me!” from its aroma.

On the taste front, though, 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts Acai + 10 Superblend is all around wonderful, though some sips of it have a sour kick. The Acai + 10 Superblend is distinctly berry-flavored in its taste after that and for every subsequent sip of the drink. The flavor changes with almost every sip from though it always has a berry with a hint of grape and/or apple flavor to it. The raspberry and blueberry flavors are the most prominent, though there is a sour kick from what I assume is the acai (which is probably where I am getting a grape flavor, because the acai berry juice is well above the grape juice that is in this beverage).

The aftertaste from the Acai + 10 Superblend 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts is slightly sour and oddly (because there is no dairy of any kind in it), milky. The sour and milky aftertastes endure in the mouth for about five minutes, but they are not unpleasant.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit beverage, Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend 100% Fruit Juice + Boosts is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, while tasting pretty awesome to boot! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend is a great option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health. Acai + 10 Superblend is primarily composed of apple juice from concentrate, organic acai juice and black currant juice from concentrate. It contains nothing bad and does not have any additional vitamins pumped into it. It is gluten free and does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also exceptionally healthy for you. One serving of Acai + 10 Superblend has 120 calories and no fat. While there are 31 grams of sugars, the beverage has no cholesterol nor protein! Rather nicely, there are only 15 mg (1% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a sufficient source of Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and Manganese, which is more than most fruit juices on the market!

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle I bought yesterday had an expiration date of June 8, 2013. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit product and dark purple. If this gets on clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms Acai + 10 Superblend tastes good, but is what it is. This drink is a pretty indistinct mix of several berries that tastes like a bunch of fruit blended up together. It is okay, but not extraordinary in any way.

Subtle, Too Subtle, Makes Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash Less Than Extraordinary

The Good: Nothing bad in it, Does not taste horrible . . .
The Bad: Expensive, Not the most nutritious Bolthouse Farms beverage, Lousy taste
The Basics: Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash Coconut Water + Juice is one of the few real duds from the brand.


A few nights ago, I found myself exploring my new local area after I went out to see The Words (reviewed here!). I found myself at a new-to-me superstore where I was delighted to see a new-to-me Bolthouse Farms bottled juice. Back in New York, where I first got hooked on Bolthouse drinks, I had never seen the Mango Coconut Splash Coconut Water + Juice drink from Bolthouse Farms. Yet, there it was in Michigan and I happily picked one up.

Alas, that was a choice I came to regret! I was looking for a drink to quench my thirst and the Mango Coconut Splash did not do that at all!

Basics

Bolthouse Farms is a health drink brand, which is like an energy drink except that is designed for more of a full-health solution, though this juice (apparently inherited from Bom Dia) is much less of a health drink than many of their other beverages. Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash comes in a 15.2 fl. oz. plastic bottle that is smooth and very portable. The #1 recyclable bottle is filled with the mostly translucent white liquid, which resembles coconut water more than mango juice. Bolthouse Farms juice products is one of the leading manufacturer of healthy prepared beverages, both of fruit juices and dairy beverages.

The 15.2 fl. oz. bottle is intended to give consumers just under two servings, which is silly. For some strange reason, Bolthouse Farms does not sell a full 16 fl. oz. bottle, which would be two servings.

Ease Of Preparation

Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash Coconut Water + Juice is a liquid in the 15.2 fl. oz. bottle and is a ready-to-drink beverage. So, preparation is as easy as opening a plastic bottle. Mango Coconut Splash has a plastic cap that easily twists off and can be put back on in order to reseal it. It is important to note that this is supposed to be refrigerated, so quality of the beverage may degrade if it is left out at room temperature before or after the bottle is open. This has a pretty standard security seal ring around the lower half of the cap and informs the consumer as to whether the product has been opened by cracking off when the top is twisted.

Taste

Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash smells sweet, like mango and that aroma was very inviting to me.

On the tongue, however, the Mango Coconut Splash was dominated completely by the dry taste of coconut. Almost as soon as the coconut flavor passed, there was an oddly sour flavor that was only vaguely mango. It was like the coconut brought out the worst flavors of the mango and accented them. This left my mouth dry and my lips puckering!

The Mango Coconut Splash juice has an exceedingly dry aftertaste, making for an utterly un-thirst quenching beverage.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit beverage, Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash Coconut Water + Juice is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, but it does that no better than it quenches one’s thirst. Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash is mediocre at best. Mango Coconut Splash is primarily composed of water, coconut water and apple juice. It contains nothing bad, but does not have any additional nutrients pumped into it. It is gluten free and is Vegan compliant. As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is pretty neutral on the health front. One serving of Mango Coconut Splash has no fat and only 60 calories. While there are 16 grams of sugars, the beverage has no cholesterol. There are only 65 mg (3% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving does not have any other significant levels of any vitamins or minerals to make this worth drinking for the health benefits.

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few weeks. The bottle I bought at the beginning of September had an expiration date of October 20, 2012. This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit product and almost clear. If this gets on clothes, it will not likely stain them, even light clothes. Because this drink is mostly water, it should wash clean of any fabric.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms Mango Coconut Splash is an unsatisfying fruit juice that lacks the nutritional benefits to justify the expense of the beverage, making it impossible to recommend.

Striving For Average, Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical Is Not Terrible, But Not Great.

The Good: Fairly nutritious, Does not taste horrible.
The Bad: Expensive, Does not taste great.
The Basics: Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical is a blend of fruit and vegetable juices that is ultimately underwhelming on every front, save nutrition.


I, for the most part, enjoy the beverages produced by Bolthouse Farms. However, given that they tend to be a bit more expensive than other juices (also vastly more nutritious!), I tend to only get them as they near their expiration date and are discounted locally. Usually, this thrills me and I get a treat that was otherwise unexpected. In the case of Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical, I found myself far less surprised that it was locally clearanced.

The 50/50 Tropical is a mix of fruit and vegetable juices that is nowhere near as awful as the 100% Carrot Juice produced by Bolthouse Farms (and reviewed here by me!). But, it’s still not an incredible or delicious beverage.

Bolthouse Farms juice products is one of the leading manufacturer of healthy prepared beverages, both of fruit juices and dairy beverages.

The 32 fl. oz. bottle gives consumers four full servings, though the bottle is not marked with clear delineations for each serving.

Ease Of Preparation

Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical is a liquid in the 32 fl. oz. bottle and is a ready-to-drink beverage. Taste

Initially, the 50/50 Tropical smells delightful. The aroma it possesses has an orange and citrus scent to it. The citrus scent, I now realize, is Guava. The smell is very fruity and exciting.

On the tongue, though, the 50% that is vegetables certainly overwhelms the fruit flavor. While there is an initially tangy fruit flavor – entirely produced by the guava and pear flavors in the beverage – it quickly transforms into the dry, familiar, fairly disappointing taste of carrot juice. The flavor of liquefied carrots settles on the tongue and is unrelenting once there. The “tropical” fruit flavors are quickly sublimated to the carrot juice.

The 50/50 Tropical has a very dry aftertaste.

Nutrition

As a healthy fruit and vegetable beverage, Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical is designed to fill in some of the nutritional gaps one might have in their diet, most notably Vitamin A, which the 50/50 Tropical has 260% of your RDA of! Nutritionally, Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical is an option for those who are dieting or are trying to improve their health, who are looking for specific nutrients and hydration. 50/50 Tropical contains carrot juice from concentrate, apple juice from concentrate, and pear juice from concentrate (among other things). It contains nothing bad and it is gluten free and does not appear to contain any meat or dairy products in it, so it IS Vegan compliant! As well, there are no preservatives, artificial flavors or colors or genetically modified ingredients!

This drink is also very healthy. One serving of 50/50 Tropical has no fat and 130 calories. While there are 31 grams of sugars and a gram of protein, the beverage has no cholesterol! There are 55 mg (2% RDA) of sodium in each serving. A single serving is a decent source of Vitamin C (60% RDA). It has vastly more than your daily needs for Vitamin A.

Storage/Clean-up

Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical comes in a plastic bottle and it keeps for only a few months. The bottle I bought on August 1, 2012 had an expiration date of August 6, 2012 (fear not! That’s when I drank it and wrote this review!). This beverage must be refrigerated!

This drink is a fruit and vegetable product and bright orange. If this gets on clothes, it will certainly stain them. Consult a care guide for your clothes, though I suspect light clothes would need bleach to get this out. Still, the drink wipes off surfaces easily with a cloth, assuming they are impermeable.

Overall

Bolthouse Farms 50/50 Tropical is not one of the most incredible Bolthouse beverages, but it does not taste horrible, making it a good, occasional (only if it’s on sale) drink.
