Turning Cable Into Wi-Fi, The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router

The Good: Easy to use, Easy to secure, Affordable, Decent range, Very stable
The Bad: None, no real problems!
The Basics: The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router is an ideal router for those who are setting up a home network.

About a year ago, my apartment’s free Wi-Fi policy went out the window. Our ISP decided to crack the whip with our landlords and to protect themselves, the apartment complex cut us off. When that happened, it was no longer good enough that we had a decent range extender (reviewed here!) for our Wi-Fi ; we had to subscribe to a service and get an actual wireless router. We chose the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router and it was a good choice!

The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router is a simple plastic box 1” tall by 4” deep by 6 3/4” wide. This style of router sits flat and very stable on any flat surface. This device is designed to take a cable-based internet connection and make it into a Wi-Fi signal for internet access. After almost a year of using the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router, I have found this wireless router to be the easiest-possible to use wireless router and a completely effective one.

Powered by a standard wall outlet, the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router is vulnerable to power surges because it operates on a two-prong power adapter. Even so, we have not had any issue with power supply problems with our Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router, despite living in a place where the power supply is interrupted occasionally. What is more of a problem for us is finding a secure place to place the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router for optimal results.

The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router seems to be very durable. While we have our box centrally located in our apartment, its stability and durability have made it very difficult for our cats to knock it off the entertainment center, but it has easily survived the drop when it has fallen. After plugging it in and turning it on with the button on the back, the unit takes about a minute to boot up and connect to our wired network from the wall. Once it has, a series of green and blue LEDs on the front of the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router lights up.

The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router is very easy to configure, as the unit is both plug-and-play and comes with its own software installed. When you first access the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router from your laptop, PC or other wireless device, you have to configure the box. Basically, you direct the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router’s software to acknowledge the network signal from the cord you plug into it (which is included) and transmit the signal from the box. The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router only has to be configured once and after that, it retains all of its programming each time it is turned on and off! As a result, this wireless router creates a very stable Wi-Fi network for a home or office.

The Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router has very easy to understand status indicators on the front of the unit. There are five lights, including the power light and various connection indicators on the front of the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router. More than any computer product I have tried, the Netgear WNR1000V3 N150 Wireless Router is idiotproof; it is plug and play and creates stable Wi-Fi networks with initially easy set-up that creates stable Wi-Fi perfectly, at least for the three computers my wife and I are almost constantly running!
