From Its Flavor, It Might As Well Be Ice Cream! Ben & Jerry’s Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt Absolutely Delights!

The Good: Great taste, Nutritionally decent, Fair trade certified
The Bad: More expensive than other Greek Frozen Yogurts, Slightly waxy additiv
The Basics: The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt might be Ben & Jerry’s big success story for that new niche product!

Trends rise and they fall and sometimes wonderful products fall simply because the niche or fad they fill falls out of vogue. I have only recently started trying and reviewing Greek yogurt, most notably the Ben & Jerry’s Banana Peanut Butter Greek Frozen Yogurt (reviewed here!), but even with my current interest in it, I can completely acknowledge that this is basically the Food Trend Of The Year. Products that follow such trends tend to have a lifespan on the order of about two years. While I usually do not care about that type of thing, I do when I find a product I like and I know that it will not be around two years hence. The Ben & Jerry’s Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt that I have been mowing down for the last few days definitely falls into that category!

The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is quite possibly the best product for frozen yogurts for consumers who want ice cream as opposed to frozen yogurt (it does not seem much healthier than most ice creams, but I assume there is some benefit to frozen yogurts over traditional ice creams).

Basics

Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt comes in a pint container. The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is a smooth Greek Frozen Yogurt broken up very regularly with blocks of chocolate fudge. The largest chunks I found were 7/8” long x 1/2" wide by 1/8” thick! The fudge chunks are very evenly dispersed, coming in almost every spoonful of the Greek Frozen Yogurt.

At (locally) $5.99 a pint, the Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt is an expensive Greek Frozen Yogurt, though the flavor is very much worth it. This is made of decent ingredients and it is definitely worth the price.

Ease Of Preparation

The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is a loaded Greek Frozen Yogurt. As a Greek Frozen Yogurt, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt!

Taste

The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt has no real aroma when it is frozen. I was surprised by how this flavor foreshadows none of how it tastes through a scent. Even as it moves closer to its melting point, it is surprisingly un-aromatic.

In the mouth, the Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is incredibly flavorful. The sweetness of the raspberries is bold and distinctive. Interestingly, the creaminess of the dairy element mutes the sourness of both the raspberries, which are naturally a little sour, and the Greek yogurt. As a result, this is a homogenously sweet Greek frozen yogurt. That sweetness it enhanced by the slightly bitter chocolate fudge bits that are mixed into the frozen yogurt. The chocolate fudge chunks are a bit waxy, but as the frozen yogurt moves toward its melting point, they actually bear less of a waxy flavor and start to taste like more of a dark chocolate! The result is a wonderful blend of fruit and chocolate in almost every single bite.

In the bites with large fudge chunks, the Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt has a slightly bitter aftertaste. For the rest of the bites, this frozen yogurt has no real aftertaste.

Nutrition

The Ben & Jerry’s Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is a very creamy Greek Frozen Yogurt with a heavy additive (the fudge chunks can obstruct a weak ice cream scoop). The pint represents four half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 200 calories, 60 of which are from fat. The seven grams of fat represent 11% of the RDA of fat, with 25% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 5 grams of saturated fat in this Greek Frozen Yogurt. One serving has 25 mg of cholesterol (that’s 8% of the RDA!) and 65 mg of Sodium (3% RDA). The only other real nutrients are six grams of protein and 15% of the RDA of Calcium and 4% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt.

Ben & Jerry’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim milk, Greek Yogurt and liquid sugar! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list. The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Ben & Jerry’s is Kosher, but not marked as gluten free. There are no allergy warnings on the package, but it is fair trade certified.

Storage/Clean-Up

Ben & Jerry’s Greek Frozen Yogurt is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months; ours was probably on the clearance rack because it expired today, but it tasted great still!

The Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is fairly light and it will stain any light fabrics it melts into. If the Greek Frozen Yogurt melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the Greek Frozen Yogurt wipes off exceptionally easily.

Overall

The Ben & Jerry’s Raspberry Fudge Chunk Greek Frozen Yogurt is exceptionally good, especially for those who truly love ice cream, as opposed to healthy frozen yogurts! If Ben & Jerry’s is going to keep any Greek Frozen Yogurt around after the fad, this one should be it!
