Extra, But Not Special, The 2013 Jango Fett Hallmark Ornament Fizzles.

The Good: Decent coloring, Generally good sculpt, Good balance, Inexpensive enough
The Bad: Jet packs’ flames are terribly colored, very low collectible value
The Basics: The Jango Fett ornament has one seriously deficient element that drags the overall rating of the Star Wars ornament down!

In having objective standards, there are very few times when only one element of a movie, album, toy, or food will overwhelm the overall rating of the item. Yet . . . once in a while, there is a product with such a deficient element as to drag down one’s estimation of the product. This year’s extra (unnumbered, non –limited edition ) Star Wars ornament is one such product. Star Wars fans might be super psyched to find there is a new Jango Fett ornament, but when they see it, especially the backpack’s flames, they are likely to wish Hallmark had done something better for the character.

This year’s bonus ornament is Jango Fett, the only Star Wars ornament this year that has nothing to do with Return Of The Jedi. Jango Fett is an utterly unnecessary ornament as there is an earlier Jango Fett ornament, which is still exceptionally easy to find. The new Jango Fett ornament has the bounty hunter lifting off as opposed to preparing to shoot Jedi with his two pistols.

Fans of the Star Wars Prequels will easily recall Jango Fett as the secondary antagonist to the Jedi in Attack Of The Clones (reviewed here!). The armored bounty hunter who works for Darth Tyrannous before being dispatched pretty easily by Mace Windu utilized his jet pack on Kamino and Geonosis before meeting his untimely end.

It is Jango Fett, rising up on the power of his jet pack jets with his pistols drawn that is the subject of the 2013 Jango Fett ornament!

Basics

The Jango Fett ornament recreates the armored and inscrutable bounty hunter in solid plastic. The ornament, released in 2013, features just the character with his trademark pistols drawn and jet pack flaring. Jango Fett is cast in an action pose, his weapon at the ready and his knees bent. This Jango Fett ornament is 4 3/4" tall, 2 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" deep. Hallmark charged $14.95 for the ornament originally and that makes it one of the most affordable Star Wars ornaments in recent years.

The Hallmark Jango Fett ornament is made of a durable plastic and has him holding his two pistols. The ornament is molded with a decent amount of detailing. In addition to the usual cool molded details like the tread on the boots and the antenna on the Mandalorian helmet. The ornament has the character’s belts and holsters molded on and they look very good.

Conversely, the coloring details are problematic. While the outfit is well-colored in the simple grays, blues and reds one expects of Jango Fett’s Mandalorian armor, the pistols are not the bright silver color they appeared as in the film. Even worse, the dealbreaker of the ornament is that the fire from the jetpacks is an opaque orange and yellow that looks sloppy and ridiculous compared with the realism of the rest of the ornament’s coloring.

Features

As a Hallmark Keepsake ornament, Jango Fett could have a sound chip or light effect, but he has neither. This is one of the basic ornament releases from Hallmark, without any frills.

Balance

As with all ornaments, the intent of the Hallmark Keepsake Jango Fett ornament is to be hung on a Christmas Tree. And for those creating the ultimate Star Wars Christmas Tree, Jango Fett would have been essential, had it not already been done more than a decade ago! This ornament has a brass hook loop embedded on the back, center, atop the jet pack. From there, this action-posed ornament hangs with exceptionally good balance.

Collectibility

Hallmark Keepsake began delving into the collectibles market in 1991 with Star Trek when it introduced the exceptionally limited edition original U.S.S. Enterprise ornament (click here for my review of that one!). Since then, they have branched out into other popular franchises like Star Wars and The Wizard Of Oz. The Jango Fett ornament is not at all limited and has not appreciated in the secondary market yet, nor is there any good reason why it would; it truly is so close to the previous Jango Fett ornament that one has to seriously wonder how Hallmark expected Star Wars fans to overlook that! There should be plenty of this ornament available at clearance prices after the holiday!

Overview

Like most Star Wars ornaments, the Jango Fett has nothing to do with the Christmas holiday, but even die-hard fans are likely to be neutral to this given how ridiculous the flames from the backpack look. It is not the worst Star Wars ornament, but it is far from being the best.
