The Good: Tastes good, Uses real fruit, Very nutritious!
The Bad: Somewhat expensive (compared to many ice creams or sorbets).
The Basics: Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are delightful and well worth picking up, especially on sale or with a coupon, these are a fun treat for those trying to get frozen snacks in a healthier way!
Not very long ago, my wife and I discovered a new-to-us treat that was a pleasant surprise given how she and I have started eating much, much healthier. We were out and there were coupons for Edy’s Coconut Waters and we had never tried the Edy’s Fruit Ice Bars. We opted for the Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple and my hope was that it would be like a little pina colada in my mouth. As it is, the coconut flavor (appropriately) dominates and given how healthy they are, it is hard to complain about their expense.
Basics
Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars come in a package of six Fruit Ice Bars that total 16.1 fl. oz. Each is individually wrapped and come with the white fruit ice bars on a stick. These are a frozen treat with each clear plastic-wrapped Fruit Ice Bar in a white box. These are exceptionally easy to enjoy, but they have to be kept completely frozen or else they melt in an unpleasant and ultimately inedible way.
Each Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Ice Cream Bar is 6“ long (with the stick)/4” long for the treat itself, 2“ wide and 7/8“ thick.
Ease Of Preparation
Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are a gourmet frozen dessert. They come frozen and must be kept that way. The only way these lasted for us was using our deep freeze freezer (reviewed here!) to keep the Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars entirely solid!
Because they come in the individual wrappers, one must simply unwrap each Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Ice Cream Bar and then eat them. That is it.
Taste
The Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars smell delightfully like coconut. The scent is strong, but only aromatic as the bar nears freezing (my sub-zero freezer usually keeps it colder than that). The pineapple does not contribute noticeably to the scent of the fruit ice bars.
The Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars have a light milky flavor. More than the watery flavor one might expect, these have a sweet flavor that is very creamy. As the coconut water melts away on the tongue, the pineapple flavor reveals itself. The pineapple is represented by actual chunks of pineapple, which are flavorful and taste like actual pineapple . . . so there are no real surprises from these bars. They taste like super-frozen sorbet on a stick.
These have no aftertaste.
Nutrition
The Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are a very delightful frozen dessert. Each 84 gram bar is a single serving. In the 1 bar serving, there are only 60 calories, and they have no fat. As well, one serving also has only 15 grams of carbohydrates (that’s 5% of the RDA!) and 40 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). Rather nicely, the Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars also have 20% of the RDA of Vitamin C.
Edy’s Outshine bars have quality ingredients, which is probably why they are so comparatively expensive (compared to ice cream, sorbets and popsicles). Made primarily of coconut water from concentrate, sugar, and pineapple, Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are a surprisingly good frozen dessert! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list and there are no allergy notes on the box, save that this includes coconut, which should have been obvious.
Storage/Clean-Up
Edy’s Outshine is coconut milk-based, so when it is not frozen, it spoils exceptionally quickly. The Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars we found last month had a November 12, 2013 expiration date on the box, so these are treat worth stocking up on for the summer!
The Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are white and slightly creamy when they melt. When the frozen dessert melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the fluid wipes off exceptionally easily.
Overall
Edy’s Outshine Coconut Waters With Pineapple Fruit Ice Bars are flavorful and well worth the expense, though they are problematic if one does not have a great freezer. Fortunately, I do and for the health-conscious consumer, these are a great investment.
