Palatable And True To Its Name, Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple SqueezePops Are Still Not Great Candy.

The Good: Tastes accurate, Fat free!
The Bad: Not at all nutritious, Unpleasantly sour taste, Poor environmental packaging.
The Basics: Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is exactly what it promises, but is not enjoyable!

Every now and then, there is a product that I try that I honestly have a difficult time objectively reviewing. More often than not, that comes from getting exactly what the product promises, but not liking the results anyway. That is where I came down on the Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop. While the experience of the Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop was not wholly unpleasant, in contrast to the Sour Watermelon version of the same candy (reviewed here!), I found that even though I was getting exactly what Wrigley’s promised with this confection, it was still not one I wanted to recommend . . . to anyone.

The Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is intensely sour, but very true to the promised flavor and healthier than many candies on the market.

Basics

The Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is actually a conceptually interesting candy. Instead of having a hard lollipop on a stick, the Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is a gel that comes in a thin plastic tube. Produced by Wrigley’s, the Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is supposed to give one the experience of having a lollipop, without the mess.

The 4.0 flexible plastic tube of Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop gel is clear with a translucent green gel inside. The bright green cap further differentiates it from other Squeeze & Lick Lollipop flavors. Cosmetically, the Green Apple and Sour Green Apple flavors are virtually identical. Wrigley’s is a gum manufacturer that is now branching out past gum.

Ease Of Preparation

As a candy that is ready to eat, the Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is a very simply product to consume. Simply unscrew the top and squeeze the green gel right into your mouth. The head on the tube is reminiscent of a roll-on deodorant bottle, which was somewhat unnerving to me. The gel comes out a hole in the center of the curved top of the tube.

Taste

The Sour Green Apple “lollipop” smells sweet and inviting, like a fruity bubblegum. This flavor smells very true to the promised apple flavor. In fact, even from the aroma, I could tell it would taste just like a Granny Smith apple.

And it does . . . sort of. Squirting a bit of the Sour Green Apple SqueezePop into the mouth, one is greeted by an intensely and instantly sour apple flavor, as if one had just managed to get the essence of about fifty Granny Smith apples into one’s mouth. The flavor is fruity and slightly dry, causing the mouth to pucker incredibly. And the apple flavor and the sour intensity of it does not let up. Even after one swallows this green goo, the aftertaste is intensely sour.

The sour aftertaste lingers on the tongue until the mouth is cleaned out.

Nutrition

Obviously, the Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is a candy and, thus, is not intended as something nutritious. Instead, it is supposed to be fun and yummy (despite actually being a bit too intense to be truly enjoyable). Nutritionally, this is not the worst food in the world. Sure, it’s not going to win any points with health nuts, whatwith the primary ingredients being corn syrup, citric acid, and natural and artificial flavors before becoming a weird collection of chemicals. But, while it might not be anywhere near “all natural,” none of the ingredients leap out at me as anything that anyone with allergies, the need for a gluten free diet, Vegans or those who are keeping Kosher would have an issue with. While it is not marked kosher, gluten-free, or Vegan compliant, there is nothing that violates any of those dietary restrictions in the ingredients and there are no allergy warnings!

A single serving of Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is considered 5 teaspoons (I won’t even imagine trying to eat that much of this stuff!) and the 4 oz., tube represents about three servings. In a serving, there are 130 calories from the 32 grams of sugar. There are no other nutrients in this gel!

Storage/Clean-Up

The Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is a self-contained tube of goo. As long as it is not superheated or the tube is ruptured, this should remain a “viable” food product indefinitely. There is no expiration date on this and I shudder to think that this might be one of the “foods” that remains for one who is stranded on a desert island. There goes that fantasy!

This “lollipop” gel is a light green and it will stain light-colored fabrics. It ought to wash right out of anything it gets on. The Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop gel is a fluid and if you get it on your hands, it will get sticky, but simply washing your hands solves this problem.

Overview

The Hubba Bubba Sour Green Apple Squeeze & Lick Lollipop is true to the promised flavor, but so intensely sour as to be unpleasant to consume and thus, too difficult to enjoy or recommend.
