The Good: Healthy, Good ingredients, Smells great, Myah loves them, Great dental benefits!
The Bad: Could always be less expensive!
The Basics: Myah enjoyed the RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone as a distraction when out and about and it kept her thoroughly entertained for about fifteen minutes.
There is, near where I now live, a pretty awesome pet store. At it, I am able to get all manner of new dog and cat foods and they have extensive samples which, for cat food, can be a great resource for giving Gollum variety and new products for us to review. But, whenever I go there, I feel compelled to buy something (as opposed to just taking all their free samples!) On my last trip, when I had to get Myah a treat for being out for the day with me, I picked her up a Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone from RedBarn.
As something of a cheapskate, this treat became a decent distraction tool, keeping Myah entertained for about fifteen minutes, though she seemed very happy with this and the process of devouring it so fast left her pleasantly exhausted.
Basics
I picked up the 2.5 oz. RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone one day when my wife was trying out a new job and I had to drive her through the snow (with Myah accompanying me!). For $1.99/ea, the RedBarn Filled Rawhide Bone is a once-in-a-while treat. Myah was given a RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone to keep her busy while stuck in the car for several hours with me.
The RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone dog treats are hard, formed rawhide treats that are shaped and colored to look like stereotypical bones. Each Filled Rawhide Bone is about 4 3/4” long, 2 1/8” wide and 7/8” thick. In the rounded ends of each side of the bone is a paste-like filling (one orange, one red, representing cheese and meat, respectively).
Ease Of Preparation
This is a ready-to-eat dog treat and only requires one to remove the wrapper and feed one’s dog.
Myah’s Reaction
The Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone had almost no aroma to it that I could discern when it was unwrapped. Myah, however, seemed to smell something she liked and immediately began licking both sides of the paste in the formed rawhide bone and began chewing on it. The chewing kept her jaw strong and physically scraped off the plaque and tartar she had from her regular dog food. This left her breath a bit better than it was before she started eating this bone.
Myah was very eager to try this treat and she did not stop eating it until it was entirely consumed.
Nutrition
The RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone dog treats are fairly healthy. With at least 50% crude protein, 2% crude fat and no more than 4% crude fiber and 20% moisture, the RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone offer some decent nutrition to dogs. Made primarily of rawhide, corn syrup, and chicken, this did not upset Myah’s digestive tract at all. Still, RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone appear to have nothing bad in them. The Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone have almost two years shelf life (the treat I picked her up would have expired in August 2014, had Myah not eaten it up!). As with all dog treats, it is highly recommended that when you give your dog RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone, you make sure they have a decent supply of clean water available. RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone treats are not intended to replace dog food.
Overall
Getting ten to fifteen minutes worth of distraction out of each RedBarn Ham & Cheese Flavor Filled Rawhide Bone might not be a great value, but Myah seemed to truly enjoy it and as a once-in-a-while treat, it is well worth picking up for her!
