The Good: Gollum loves them, Inexpensive
The Bad: Too small to have real dental benefits.
The Basics: Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor treats are good and a treat Gollum enjoys, but offer only limited dental health benefits.
With the variety of treats and foods my eight year-old cat, Gollum, receives in the course of being a reviewing assistant (he is very vocal with his opinions, I just put them to words for readers!), I am always fascinated by the things that actually grab his attention and he returns to eagerly. From the moment my wife and I moved to Michigan, one of the few treats Gollum can never seem to get enough of are the Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor treats. These are one of the few mass-produced, relatively inexpensive cat treats that Gollum still enthusiastically eats, though I feed them to him less because they are so small that they require him to chew very little, so there are almost no real dental benefits to them (which is something I look for in all cat treats).
Basics
Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor cat treats are crunchy little treats thatcome in a 2.1 oz. bag for $1.79 locally. The Party mix includes four different piece types that range in size from 5/8” wide and 1/2" long (for the cow’s heads) to 7/16” square for the “cracklers.” All are approximately 3/16” thick. The other two shapes are stars and little swirls of meal that look like brown Cheese Doodles (on a very small scale). Opening the riskies Party Mix bag, which is resealable, there is a vaguely meaty aroma. It is not unpleasant, nor terribly strong.
Ease Of Preparation
The Friskies Party Mix treats are a treat, so preparation is as easy as opening the resealable bag and removing a few of treats. I, occasionally, mix a few of the treats in with Gollum’s food, but otherwise, he gets five to ten of these whenever I feed him them!
Gollum’s Reaction
Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor treats are a treat that Gollum wakes up for. When I hear him napping, I will set a few by his nose, watch his nose twitch and he opens his eyes up to the delightful experience of having some treats. There are other treats he won’t even open his eyes for. Whenever I open this bag of treats, he seems to know and he is right there. He will eat as many of the Party Mix treats as I provide him, even if he has just eaten!
Nutrition
The package does not provide a serving recommendation, but I have found Gollum – now about ten pounds - enjoys 5 - 10 treats in a serving per day. I usually go through about one 2.1 oz. bag in under three weeks, so for the price, this treat is not a bad one. The pouches I bought most recently do not expire until December of this year, so this is a decent treat to stock up on.
Moreover, the Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor treats seem pretty healthy. With a minimum of 26% crude protein and 9% crude fat, but no more than 4% crude fiber and 11% moisture, these treats have a lot of nutritional benefits for Gollum. These treats are made primarily of chicken meal, brewers rice, and beef tallow! They do not have much in the way of dental cleaning benefits, though.
Overview
The Friskies Party Mix Wild West Crunch Beef, Liver, & Cheddar flavor cat treats are a good treat, but not one of the most exceptionally well-rounded ones. So, while Gollum loves these treats, they get a less enthusiastic endorsement from me (who has to look out for his whole health).
