The Good: Durable, Easy to clean, Pops popcorn fast, Inexpensive
The Bad: Hard to find new, No on/off switch, Loud
The Basics: As a fan of hot air popped popcorn, it is hard not to endorse the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper!
With the holidays upon us, one of my favorite snacks is popcorn and one of the gifts that seems to be a recurring motif from my wife is popcorn and popcorn seasoning gift sets. For well over a decade, I have popped my popcorn in a Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper. The Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is a hot air popcorn popping device that might not fit my stainless steel kitchen décor, but it does fit my love of fresh-popped popcorn!
The Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is a 13” tall, 5” in diameter cylindrical device with a 4 1/2” wide opening. The white base has a chamber that is 2 7/8” in diameter and 4” tall. When the 26” long black electrical cord is plugged in, it activates the motor, which heats the popping chamber up. The motor is loud, but fortunately this hot air popper gets up to temperature within five minutes.
The translucent yellow top to the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper holds 1/2 cup of unpopped popcorn. The top of the chute may be removed to allow the popcorn to be dropped right into the chamber. More than any other popcorn popper, I have used, the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is sensitive to being overfilled. If overfilled, when the popcorn begins popping, it will fill up the chamber and get stuck, causing the bottom kernels to remain stationary and then burn. Burnt popcorn emits a pretty terrible smell, if you’ve never smelled it!
With ordinary useage, the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is exceptionally easy to use. After five minutes of warming up, a half cup of popcorn kernels takes about three minutes to pop up. I find it irksome that, as is common with this type of device, there is no power switch. As a result, one has to unplug and plug the device into the socket in order to clean out the last of the unpopped kernels.
The Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is also exceptionally easy to clean. The outside wipes clean easily and the chute portion is dishwasher safe. While the noise of the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper is irksome, it is not at all an unforeseen issue with the device. After years of use, it is easy to recommend those who love hot air-popped popcorn pick up the Wear-Ever Popcorn Pumper.
