The Good: Good taste, Relatively inexpensive, Not terribly unhealthy
The Bad: Not terribly nutritious, Not the most robust cheese flavor
The Basics: Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is enjoyable, but not as strong as some of the other flavorings for popcorn!
As I continue to enjoy and review various popcorn spices, my wife has taken to gifting me new (to me) popcorn seasonings. Tonight, to enjoy with a new movie, I cracked open the container of Nacho Cheddar Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning. This is definitely one of the Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasonings that tastes better on popcorn than on its own. I’m not quite sure how they do it, but that’s the way it goes. Even so, this flavor is more a salty seasoning than realistically cheese flavored, making it (ultimately) a more average product.
Basics
Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is an orange powder that one sprinkles on their hot popcorn. My wife picked it up in the .9 oz. plastic container as part of a multipack. After removing the safety seal below the flip-top cap, one has easy access to the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning. The seasoning is basically a spice that adheres to the hot popcorn or liquefied margarine on popcorn.
Ease Of Preparation
Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is exceptionally easy to use. After the popcorn is popped, add oil or spray margarine to the popcorn. Then, flip the lid to the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning and sprinkle it on your popcorn. The container to the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning has holes, much like any other major spice container. When one is done applying the seasoning, simple press closed the spice container.
Taste
Smelling the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning, one gets the strong scent of peppers and a slightly more faint aroma of cheese. The scent of sweet, slightly spicy, peppers dominates the bouquet.
On the tongue, Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is sweet and peppery. The flavor finishes salty and vaguely like a sharp cheddar cheese. This has no aftertaste.
On popcorn, the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning tastes more like cheddar cheese than anything else. Where it belongs, it actually takes on the proper nacho cheese flavor with a delightful mix of sweet pepper and sharp cheddar cheese.
Nutrition
Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is not actually that bad on the nutrition front. In a 1/4 teaspoon serving (there are 31 servings in the .9 oz container), there are only two calories. With only 75 mg. of Sodium, I was shocked that a serving only represented 3% of the RDA of Sodium! There are no other nutrients in the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning.
On the ingredients front, Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is not terrible either! The Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning consists mostly of cheddar cheese, salt, and butter milk solids. There is actually nothing unpronounceable in this spice. It does, however, contain milk and soy, so lactose intolerant people and Vegans cannot have this. It is, however, Kosher.
Storage/Clean-up
I could find no expiration date on my container of Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning, but given that the final ingredients appear to be preservatives, it seems reasonable that – stored at room temperature – this will last indefinitely.
If the Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning gets on clothing, it will stain. Consult a fabric care guide for how best to get this out of any outfit you get this on. It easily wipes off any nonporous surface it gets on.
Overview
The Kernel Season’s Nacho Cheddar Popcorn Seasoning is a good, objectively average, additive to popcorn that is more flavorful than just butter and is enough to satisfy people who like cheese-flavored popcorn.
