The Good: Tastes good, Not entirely un-nutritious, Inexpensive, Very flavorful!
The Bad: I could live with this flavor year-round!
The Basics: Edy’s Pumpkin Ice Cream is delicious and well worth picking up for anyone who likes pumpkin pie, but loathes crust!
Pumpkin pie is not my favorite dessert. Unlike almost everyone else I know, I cannot get by the solid crust on pie to get excited about it. Instead, I tend to prefer ice cream and on that front, I have fallen in love with Pumpkin flavored ice cream. The first Limited Edition flavor of Edy’s Ice Cream I ever noticed was, in fact, Pumpkin. And it is an exceptionally good substitute for anyone who likes pumpkin flavor, but is not thrilled by crust!
Edy’s’s Pumpkin Ice Cream is an incredibly simple ice cream with no additives. It is flavorful, distinct in its Pumpkin flavor and sweet.
Basics
Edy’s ice cream comes in a one and a half quart cylindrical container. The Pumpkin Ice Cream is a smooth, creamy ice cream: the basic ice cream unadorned or mixes with any other additives. At (locally) $5.99 a half gallon, the Edy’s ice cream is an affordable, mid-range ice cream. This is a Limited Edition ice cream, available from Edy’s only in the autumn.
Ease Of Preparation
Edy’s Pumpkin Ice Cream is a very basic ice cream. As an ice cream, preparation is ridiculously simple: one need only open the top of the container, scoop out a half cup and consume! There is no trick to preparing or eating the Pumpkin Ice Cream.
Taste
The Pumpkin Ice Cream smells like a fresh baked pumpkin pie. This is a very inviting, autumn scent that is enough to make anyone who loves pumpkin pie feel invited and eager to try it.
The Edy’s Pumpkin ice cream is spicy, creamy and the precise flavor of baked pumpkin, sweetened as if to be pie filling. This ice cream is light, flavorful, and exact in its replication of pumpkin flavoring, leaving one with very little else to say about it.
Despite having a hint of cinnamon in its primary flavoring, Edys Pumpkin ice cream does not have an aftertaste that is at all dry.
Nutrition
The Edy’s Pumpkin Ice Cream is a very light, smooth, ice cream with no additives. The one and a half quart container represents twelve half-cup servings. In the half-cup serving, there are 130 calories, 50 of which are from fat. The six grams of fat represent 9% of the RDA of fat, with 18% of one’s RDA of saturated fat coming in the 2.5 grams of saturated fat in this ice cream. One serving has 20 mg of cholesterol (that’s 7% of the RDA!) and 50 mg of Sodium (2% RDA). The only other real nutrient is two grams of protein, though there is also 6% of the RDA of Calcium and 10% of the RDA of Vitamin A in the Pumpkin Ice Cream.
Edy’s has decent ingredients, too. Made primarily of Skim Milk, cream, and sugar, Pumpkin is a decent ice cream! There is nothing unpronounceable in the ingredients list.
Storage/Clean-Up
Edy’s ice cream is both a frozen and a dairy product, so it is pretty obvious that it must be kept frozen in order to remain viable. Kept frozen it remains fresh for months (my half gallon had an expiration date of July 5, 2013).
The Pumpkin ice cream is very light, opaque orange, and will certainly stain light clothing, at the very least. When the ice cream melts and gets onto fabrics, it will require one to wash it right out. On nonporous surfaces, the ice cream wipes off exceptionally easily.
Overall
Edy’s Pumpkin ice cream could only be made better by making it available year-round. As it is, it is a delightful ice cream that is enough to hunt down during the few months it is produced!
