The Basics: A surprisingly delightful spread, Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is worth picking up, even if it is smooth!
I love frosting and chunky peanut butter, but I have very few opportunities to actually review them objectively. In fact, I was surprised to have not reviewed a peanut butter before now, though I did review a seasonal frosting last year (that’s here!). All of that is changing now as my wife picked up Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread!
Hazelnut spread is essentially peanut butter and this one is flavored like chocolate and coffee and that makes it almost like a frosting!
Basics
Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is a flavored nut spread produced by Jif. It is a new nut spread that blends hazelnut butter, chocolate and coffee flavors to make a spread that is both a decent replacement for peanut butter and a worth substitute for frosting!
Jif’s Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread comes in the company’s standard 14.1 oz. glass jar. The Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is dark brown and creamy and the container comes with an easy to unscrew lid that keeps it fresh use after use!
Ease Of Preparation
Jif is a peanut butter-like spread, so there is not much needed in terms of preparation. Simply unscrew the plastic cap, tear off the foil safety seal below that and consume! It is that simple.
Of course, most people use nut spreads as a component in recipes as opposed to a food on its own. For those who actually want to use this spread for sandwiches or to frost cookies or a cake, this is an exceptionally easy-to-use spread. It spreads very easily and it does not get hard, even for days after being applied to the baked goods you put it on!
Taste
Opening the container of Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread, the dominant aroma is nuts. The smoky, hazelnut scent is rich and nutty and very clearly defined. This spread smells like burned hazelnuts, but it is enough to entice a consumer who loves coffee into trying it.
In the mouth, Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is sweeter than the scent insinuates and the flavor is like delightful dark chocolate. There is not even an aftertaste of nuts in the actual taste. Instead, this tastes like sweet chocolate with an aftertaste that is dry like black coffee, so the spread nicely embodies both promised flavors.
Nutrition
Obviously, as a nut spread, Jif cannot do much about the lack of nutrition with their spread. Given that the spread is made largely of sugar, vegetable oils, and hazelnuts, this was never going to be a nutritious product. There is nothing terrible in this spread, though.
It is also not the best product in the world for you on a nutrition front. A 2 Tbsp serving of Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread has 230 calories, 130 of which are from fat. Those 14 grams of fat represent 21% of one’s RDA of tat. Unsurprisingly, one serving is 7% of your RDA of carbohydrates and only 2 grams protein in this spread. There are, however, 40 mg of sodium in the nut spread. This is not a food to try to live off of.
Storage/Cleanup
Keep the spread sealed and it will last for quite some time. The container we bought a couple months ago would have expired on May 25 2013, had I not eaten it all up! This spread remains supple and spreadable indefinitely.
As a product made mostly of sugar, the Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is very easy to clean up. Simply washing it off with hot water helps clean off anything this gets on.
Overall
Jif Mocha Cappuccino Flavored Hazelnut Spread is enough to make one give up on bland peanut butter, even if this does not have a crunchy kick that fans of crunchy peanut butter might want.
