The Basics: Aged White Cheddar Popcorn from Popcorn, Indiana is a good snack, especially for those who don’t like the hassle of popping their own popcorn!
Is it actually possible that with all of my love of popcorn, the only reviews of popcorn I have so far written is for Orville Reddenbacher microwave popcorn (that review is here!)?! Well, I’m about to rectify that given that I picked up a bag of Popcorn, Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn on clearance the other day! It may be overpriced initially, but on sale for half off, I was instantly intrigued and eager to try the pre-popped popcorn that is trading on its all-natural aspects.
Basics
Aged White Cheddar Popcorn from Popcorn, Indiana, is pre-popped and flavored popcorn. Popcorn Indiana has marketed their popcorn as an alternative to Smartfood and honestly this is my first time finding the product, as well as trying it. Aged White Cheddar Popcorn from Popcorn, Indiana comes in a 9 oz. bag. Inside the bag, the popcorn is exactly what one might expect of popcorn. It is popped, light and fluffy in appearance.
Ease Of Preparation
Popcorn, Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn is simple to enjoy; all you need do it open the bag and remove the popcorn from it! There is no trick to eating Aged White Cheddar Popcorn; this is a snack that is ready to go from the bag to the mouth.
Taste
Popcorn, Indiana’s Aged White Cheddar Popcorn smells, I kid not, like peanut butter. When I opened the bag and stuck my nose in, it smelled delightfully nutty and somewhat sweet and it took less than ten seconds before I realized it was because it smells entirely like peanut butter!
On the taste front, the Aged White Cheddar Popcorn is, pardon the pun, a mixed bag. Bites vary between delightfully cheesy and bland as unflavored popcorn. The bites that work are salty and tangy, just what one might expect from cheese-coated popcorn. At worst, the other bites just taste like popcorn, which is bland, not bad. The cheese flavor is a decent facsimile of cheese, without being overly salty or generic.
Nutrition
Aged White Cheddar Popcorn is a surprisingly natural snack, with no preservatives. Given that the ingredients are mostly popcorn, canola oil, and whey, it might surprise salty snack eaters to learn how generally good this snack is. These have a shelf life of approximately one year, so it's not a bad snack to stock up on.
Each two and a half cup (one ounce) serving of Popcorn, Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn has 150 calories, eighty of which come from fat. There are also 2 grams of dietary fiber. While there are 9 grams of fat and 3 grams of protein, there is an irksome 290 mg of sodium, which represents 12% of one's RDA of sodium, but that is not entirely surprising. There are a smattering of minerals, but nothing significant. There is a dietary note that the Aged White Cheddar Popcorn includes milk ingredients, which prevents them from being Vegan compliant at the very least. This snack is, however, gluten free and kosher.
Storage/Clean-up
Kept in the bag, Popcorn, Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn will remain fresh for a year and as long as the bag is resealed, one suspects they will last for a few weeks before getting stale. I've never had to deal with issues of freshness for my Aged White Cheddar Popcorn.
Cleanup is simple as well. Aged White Cheddar Popcorn from Popcorn, Indiana is a dry food and thus leaves little mess behind. Because this is weakly powdered and flavored, they do not even mess up one's hands significantly. Simply wash your hands, throw out the bag and cleanup is done!
Overall
Popcorn, Indiana Aged White Cheddar Popcorn is a good snack, but I find I still prefer the real health benefits of air popping my popcorn.
