Not Worth Chasing Down After The Holidays, Suave Limited Edition Candy Apple Body Wash Is Unimpressive.

The Good: Decent lather, Easy to open bottle.
The Bad: Not antibacterial, No scrubbing grit, Less distinctive aroma than I tend to enjoy.
The Basics: The limited edition Suave Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is one of the few duds Suave had from its Christmas/Winter exclusive line!

One of the nice things about visiting my wife for the weekend was getting access to her incredible collection of hygiene supplies. I swear, I miss smelling and feeling as good as I do when I have her collection of personal cleaners around on a daily basis. While she was kind enough to leave me some of the best products she has, she took several others I had been intrigued by with her. One was the Suave Limited Edition Suave Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash. But, after a ten-hour drive through the night to be with her, I had the perfect excuse to try out the limited edition body wash.

And I was disappointed.

The Suave Candy Apple body wash is not a bad body wash, but it is basically a red apple scent with nothing at all distinctive about it. In fact, it smells shockingly like the Suave Green Apple shampoo (reviewed here!). The result of trying it after months of anticipation was that I felt a huge sense of being let down by Suave. Sure, even as a limited edition, it was inexpensive, but there was nothing special about this body wash to warrant even the name “limited edition!”

Suave Candy Apple body wash is unfortunately bland and generically apple in its presentation. The 18 fl. oz. bottle usually sells for $1.99 and is only available around the winter holidays. The Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is an effective, easy-to-use product that leaves skin feeling soft, though without a strong enough – or distinctive enough – scent to clearly define it for what it intends to be. The result is that those who truly love distinct scents are left wondering what the point of this one is.

Body washes are products I am less eager to review because they usually seem disproportionately expensive to me, but Suave is known for providing high-quality personal cleaners at affordable prices. Suave's Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash initial price is very reasonable and finding it after the holidays for less money is even better, though it is virtually impossible to find now. The Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash does manage to lather up incredibly well (despite my other problems with it).

The Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is a very liquid translucent red fluid about the consistency of most shampoos. This is a smooth body wash, so there is no grit in it to help exfoliate the skin. Using the Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is simple. The bottle features a flip top that opens with the flick of the thumb. The bottle is easy enough to open and close one handed as to make it convenient in the tub or shower, especially if one is using a loufa or washcloth in the other hand. The bottle of Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is fairly flat on the front and back and rounded on the sides. It is not overly slippery when wet, unlike some body washes I have used!

Dispensing the Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is very easy. Simply squeeze the bottle and apply the fluidic body wash to your hand, loufa or cloth. In my experience, the body wash is more liquid than creamy and, as a result, comes out much like a hand soap or dishwashing liquid. As a result, about a half dollar-sized dollop is all that is necessary to clean my whole body when it mixes with the water from my shower or bath. I've found it most effective to dole out the body wash in dime-sized dollops in order to get the most out of each application, but generally it takes very little of this body wash to go a long way.

Part of the reason the product washes off so well is that it lathers exceptionally well. Used sparingly, like in dime-sized portions, the Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash may be spread over an entire limb the way it lathers up. Simply agitating it on the skin yields a foamy, clean lather that both moisturizes the skin. Without a loufa or other rough applicator, it does not remove dirt or grime beyond what one expects from water running. As the water flows over it, it washes off easily leaving behind no film or residue, only clean, soft skin and a faint, incredible smell.

The Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash really loses me on the scent, though. There is nothing distinctive in the aroma to suggest the sweet, slightly spicy shell of a candy apple. Instead, this smells like potent, concentrated red apple in its scent without any embellishment or originality.

Suave's Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash is made primarily of water. For a body wash that cleans as well as this one does, it is astonishing to think it is composed mostly of water.

Suave Candy Apple Refreshing Body Wash might not be much in the way of candy apple, but it does clean well and that prevents it from being a total loss, though because scent is such an important factor for body washes, its lack of an authentic or original smell makes it impossible, ultimately, to recommend.
